My Range Rover Ownership First Year Review! Is L322 Unreliability Worth the Hassle?
I decided to give a run down of my highs and lows of Range Rover ownership so far. Having owned my L322 for almost a year I have certainly learnt a lot so hopefully the knowledge I've shared could help anybody who is looking to purchase one!
I hope you enjoy it and please subscribe.

I came here as Matt from High Peaks Auto mentioned you. Nice review. Totally agree. I would even add that it is a car for the open road, not short trips or school runs. A real motorway cruiser. In short trips it just doesn't shine as much

It's good to see that down to earth people are making down to earth videos about cars and are telling it how it is and giving good common sense advice. I only looked at this video after it was praised by Matt on his High Peak Autos video review of his Range Rover Westminster. A very enjoyable video. Keep up the good work.

Hi Lucy....love your channel! I have had a 2012 4.4 tdv8 for 2 years and in that time my average is 27 mpg....love that car. So what I wanted to point out to you is compared to your lease car that you are paying £500/600 per month for.....that Range Rover isn't really that expensive to run😊x

Totally agree Lucy. I have a 2010 3.6 L322 & it's just a joy to drive. Totally worth the upkeep expenditure but I agree that if you don't have money put aside for a rainy day then you won't enjoy the experience as much. Enjoyed the vlogg 👍

4 Months of owning my L322 and not a penny spent apart from petrol. But on Tuesday next week it's going in for a full service and gearbox service and transfer box fluid change and that will cost me about a grand. Then it's a wheel refub and new tyres so about another £1300. Is it worth it?? OMG it so is!! Love to drive it and so nice and smooth. Being a 4.2 Supercharged it goes like stink. I love it !! I love your videos. Keep up the good work.

Most Ford cars from 1993 have heated windscreens. Jaguar Land Rover cars only got them because Ford were the owners. I don't think the later L405 models have that feature

I love the looks of all range/land rovers but the reliability of them just massively puts me off. I’ve had 2 friends who’ve had all the high end autobiography’s from new and every single one has had major electrical issues. My parents have a new evogue and the sensors are intermittent, tail gate is intermittent and the rear window doesn’t go down. Also friends velar has had turbo failure and another friends velar and water ingress issues.. its hard to fathom to be honest…

I love my L322 3.6 TDV8. Mine has had all 4 brake callipers replaced, one suspension ride height sensor and a full service and gearbox fluid change. I’m getting 20mpg round town and 30+ mpg on longer runs. Wouldn’t sell mine at all.

I’ve had both the 2010 3.6 tdv8 and 2012 4.4 tdv8.. the 3.6 sounds better but the 4.4 returns low 30mpg makes all the difference in ownership. I’m softly looking again. Either a 2012 l322 or a l405 upto about 2015. 100% agree once you have one it’s hard to live without.

Great Video, I have had my L322 for almost 18months now, and I echo your comments about having the money to maintain it. BTW have you physically checked the coolant level? Loss of coolant could be a symptom of a head gasket gone (worst case), in which case the coolant is finding its way into the engine. If the physical level does not drop, then probably just the sensor (best case)

Here is the US you cannot buy a TDV8 but you can buy a petrol V8 or a TDV6 for the L322. I had a 2012 L322 V8 with similar costs but I loved the car. I recently traded it for a V6 petrol 2017 L405 which I also love. Great video and I totally agree with your viewpoint.

Owned mine l322 for 8 months totally love it 123,000 miles on the clock. Had it serviced when I got it,rear suspension bushes were shot had them replaced, has a slight wobble on the front brakes. ( Will probably change the discs and pads to see if that will sort it). Dislikes MPG averaging around 22 though managed 30 on a long motorway trip. Also a pain to park just big? Prreferred my Mitsubushi shogun for practical reasons (easier to load). But , Love the driving experience. Great car

Great video from High Peak Autos a couple of weeks ago going to through all the luxury car models to see if you can buy a decent luxury car for £5k. When he gets to Range Rovers he says forget it. The cars he chooses from Lexus, Merc, BMW etc are brilliant. And Matt loves Rangies! 🤣🤣

Yes, but you have to realise, Matt is plugging the cars he has for sale in his showroom. Don't be fooled by his Del Boy demeanor. If RR's are so bad, why does he praise them on the other hand, when he drives around in one ? go figure.

@richardsutton01
@richardsutton01 Жыл бұрын
@@trainman665 It is because of the car itself. Range Rovers are one of the most unreliable cars you can buy which is why they devalue so quickly once they are out of warranty. They do not get any more reliable as they get older so if you are intending to buy a luxury car for £5k, which suggests that you do not have a lot of spare cash available, then they are best avoided.
@trainman665
@trainman665 Жыл бұрын
@@richardsutton01 The same applies to any old car for £5k. If you maintain them properly they are reliable, just like most other cars. If you cut corners, you will introduce problems, just like any other car. The issue isn’t with the model, but people not willing the maintain their car properly.

My company car is a G20 330e and I absolutely love it, the only criticism I have of it is that it's pretty low to get in and out of, and for my job I am often driving to remote areas with poor ground clearance. A Range Rover would be perfect for this, but having done 60k miles in 2 1/2 years, I don't want to think what the fuel bill would be at 17mpg! Great video guys, keep them coming!

I don't have an RR or LR, I got a land cruiser Prado 2.8 diesel. Bought it brand new last year and love it to bits. I can see the attraction with these big 4WD. Consider a L322 4.4 TDV8, apart from the engine not working so hard, it comes with an 8 speed auto box compared to your 6 speed, makes it more economical than the TDV6.

Well said Lucy and for putting things into perspective. To many people to quick to criticise land Rover products. Most high end cars, and i will include Mercedes in this, from experience, are prone to electrical issues, this goes with technology. My only issue with this vlog, i should take your L322 to a Mapping tech, to look at your performance. You should be getting a lot more than 17mpg

I've never had or even driven a Range Rover but they do inspire immense loyalty from those who have them like Matt from High Peak Autos. The advice is spot on. If you can't afford a big bill don't buy it. As you say though, that is one hell of a lot of car for £7,000 or £9,000 if you add in the repairs.

@Dave..1978-i9t
@Dave..1978-i9t Жыл бұрын
I mean....... I dunno. Yes they cost £80k new but it's not new is it. I don't get this at all. You've gone and paid £7k for a 14yr old RR that's done 170k odd miles. Matt from HP Autos said not that long ago that buying a 10yr old RR will only end in tears, and he's right. You've said it has cost you thousands in repairs in your first year of ownership. That won't change. It will continue to cost you thousands every year as it gets older and older. I can only assume that you actually had a far greater budget than £7k but that you really really wanted one so rather than spend 30-40k on a newer more reliable one, you've gone cheap and held back some of your hard earned money for the money it's gonna cost you year on year in garage bills,. That, to me, is absolute madness. You can't do RR ownership on a budget. (Oh and Saab were doing double sun visors in the 90s )
@richard3004
@richard3004 Жыл бұрын
Disagree with some of that, you can do RR ownership on a budget if you do most of your own mechanical work and shop about for parts, also it won’t cost thousands each year, iv had a few and now and again you’ll get a big expense but buy one that’s been looked after and continue to look after it and they are no trouble. Admittedly Lucy’s seems to be high- ish miles, and poorly maintained so they will have to get stuck in and go through it, although no mention of rust proofing yet so be interesting to see what sills, arches and subframes are like.

Beautiful review, I have the same vehicle, same year, same color combination inside and out and same wheels. Only difference is , it's a North American model, so it's not facelifted and it still has the 4.2L supercharged engine before they went to the "upgraded" 5L in 2010. I've also had mine just over a year, about 100k miles now and no complaints 👌

Buying any high end car, you may be getting it cheaper but like this young lady says, its expensive to upkeep, keeping in mind someone else has had it when it was relatively free from huge bills. Plus its a v8! never going to be frugal, it wasn't designed to be. If you can afford the upkeep, its a great car, never meant for taking kids to school. All cars need the occasional long drive, so be prepared for the fuel bills! My daughter is married to a very well off guy and she drives a Range Rover SVR and boy does it go! But I can feel the petrol guage going down on each accelleration! If I had the money, then yes a Range Rover would be my first choice. You just have to be realistic!

I've not got the luxury of a Range Rover, I've got a 2007 Land Rover Discovery 3, I bought it cheap knowing that it needed work done, the previous owner didn't go very far and the fuel consumption reading when I picked it up was 16.5mpg, I use it mainly for long journeys and load carrying, initially I bought it because a friend of mine had cancer and lost his license due to his eyesight failing after the initial operation, a few of us used to visit him and take him out for the day, my other car (believe it or not, my main car is a Smart ForTwo diesel, no good for carrying passengers), I've spent a few grand on the Discovery, but having owned one, although I don't use it every day, I wouldn't be without it, I've put sofas, beds, wardrobes, all-sorts in it, let alone carrying 7 fully grown adults, some of which aren't that small in there, as far as reliability goes, it's had minor electrical issues, central locking not working, warning lights that just needed resetting, major stuff like the brakes, handbrake, belts, oil changes, service etc, I knew about before buying, I got the car very cheap so what I would have spent on a car of the same year all up together, this is now up together for less, because I mainly use it for longer journeys, my average mpg figure is around 31-33, it's been off-road a few times since I've owned it (nearly two years), it does everything I want it to, I owned series Land Rovers before and a couple of early V8 petrol Range Rovers, I also had a Discovery 4.0 V8 petrol/LPG, unfortunately tin worm got the better of that, I didn't own a Land Rover for 10 years, once I got another one, I realised just how much I missed not having one

Lucy put a bottle of redex diesel cleaner in the tank, it will do wonders for your mpg. 👍

Hi Lucy, love the video, all the faults you have had with your L322 are common so yes any buyer should have a slush fund for repairs👍 btw, have you counted how many times you say BMW? 😉

Your mpg is not correct you should be getting much higher I would look into the egr potentially block that off and get the the injectors checked you should be getting around 33 on the motorway and about 25 mpg combined that's what I get

17mpg that cant be right surely??!! Even for a beast like that it's got to be 25 - 30mpg. Get that checked out.

Sounds like an absolutely nightmare of a car in-terms of annual costs close to £3k and 17MPG driving. Personally I really don’t get the attraction. Not saying a car is just for getting to A to B - but old ranger rovers have dropped 80% in price from new for a reason, because the majority do not want them. Yes they look the business inside, but a car is car after a while if owning IMO.

I hated them until I bought one. 3 years later and I can say I love it, wouldn't swap for any other car. Mines a L320 4.4 V8 Petrol

Here's the thing about cars, especially luxury cars, if you're the kind of person that is happy with a Dacia then I wish you luck in purgatory but if you want motoring heaven then it costs. Thing is there's no escape from it. You either buy new and get everything under warranty but the new price of a Range Rover is over £100,000 or you buy second hand in which case you'll pay much less upfront but much more in maintenance. Luxury costs, power costs, refinement costs and if you can't meet those costs either new or second hand then enjoy your Dacia. If that's even possible.

What an arrogant comment. I drive something at the other end of the car scale and enjoy it. I know people love Land Rovers but find it hard to understand why. Lucy at least is honest and upfront about the costs and (un) reliability and unlike you does not pose and look down on people who for a variety of reasons drive something else

Bottom line with any top end luxury car like this. If you couldn’t afford to buy a new one you probably can’t afford to run it second hand.

New one on PCP is £1k per month and £24k deposit. This is a £7K car and parts are generally available. Plenty of people on average incomes manage to run old ones.

If all you can spend is 7K on a car a elderly high mileage Range Rover is just about the worst possible choice you can make, Like a ticking time bomb ready to bankrupt you at any second, Beautiful Garbage about sums them up.
