puffnstuff4004 on the A380 some of those passengers clapping are almost half a block away, from the flight deck. I can hear passengers and FA on the A320; I'd imagine the same to be true on all A320's and 737's families for that matter. Similar size aircraft and the manufacturer of the door are the same. But yeah I get your point. Passengers don't truly understand what it takes to get an aircraft back down to earth safely. We rarely get a thank you or a smile for that matter. However I didn't become a pilot to be thanked. Well sorta!

+Kristiana Wilson My favorite place to be in bad weather is the wheel well, at least during takeoff. Once airborne I sneak out onto the wing and immediately start causing trouble. I remember one time I was doing my thing in a thunderstorm and all of a sudden someone inside the plane spotted me. The nutcase started freaking out and I could tell he was screaming. He acted like he was trying to get people to believe him, but I don't think they did. Not until the plane landed and he was taken away on a stretcher did people see the results of my visit. Later I learned the incident was turned into a segment of the Twilight Zone. I didn't make a cent from it. :-/

Theres really no need to clap, but clapping is always great. On these ZERO VISABILITY conditions, the auto pilot does most or all of the work to land the plane. :)
@andycyyeung111 жыл бұрын
Yh sure, the pilots would have had their wipers on the ILS to guild them to the runway, but from the passenger window, the zero visibility is created above the wings when moisture in the air is very high, its called wing condensation, so the pilot would have had a different view to outside, nevertheless, great work from the flight deck. Usually though, it would be very likely for the pilot to trip the autopilot out for the last 2-300 feet of the approach to flare the aircraft manually.
@zszs10011 жыл бұрын
Andy YCY ya thats why a DON'T GET. Why pilots diconnect autopilot right before touchdown. They might as well autopilot all the way instead diconnecting it a few hundred feet above. Why do they do that do u know?
@andycyyeung111 жыл бұрын
Reason are because generally, the pilots flying manually can flare the landing better than autoland and will generally do a better job than the autopilot when they see the runway. Regulations for pilots also rules that for the pilot flying(PF), that pilot will have to do 3 or more manual landings during the course of 90 days. it is also part of the SOP (standard operating procedures) for many airlines unless if they are performing a CAT IIIC ILS landing in which case, it is fully automated as the visibility is absolute zero. Maybe you will get what I mean....search typhoon Vicente landing and click on the cockpit video, its a A320, the warning noise in the video is the autopilot being tripped out.
@audigex7 жыл бұрын
+Zszs100 it depends on the type of ILS (Instrument Landing System) available: there are different types, and some are more accurate than others. In the best types (Category 3c, sometimes 3b), the signals are accurate and strong enough for the autopilot (or pilot) to fly the plane literally right onto the runway even if they never see it (although in practice, the lights are so bright that you'd always see them just before landing, even in the worst conditions). In the "not quite as good" type (Category 2 or 3a, sometimes 3b), the signal is strong and accurate, but not quite accurate enough to be certain that it's perfect. For those systems, the pilot has what's called a "decision height" where they have to either see the runway and choose to land, or abort the landing (fly back up again). That's why sometimes they disconnect just before touchdown, but sometimes don't. Although sometimes they prefer to do it manually for practice, too

How about you try becoming an airline pilot in Europe, Middle East or India ? You will understand the difference between pilots and other professions, by the way - I am an airline pilot myself ... It takes years to pass the written exams, practical checks, route checks... How about this ? You try to take just 1 theoretical lesson with me on any subject in the pilot course, you will yourself understand if it’s really true that pilots don’t do anything... Be careful though, you may get scared of the pilot course’s syllabus within 30 minutes in your first class ... 😂😂🤣🤣

I've never understood why the A380 has thrust reversers on just TWO of its four engines. You would think that a plane of that magnitude would need all the help it could get when slowing down!
@DzyrAdapt11 жыл бұрын
The A380 has brakes so powerful it doesn't even need thrust reversers however regulation says they had to have at least two, due to weight issues they could only afford to put on two of them, but also because the wings are so large, the outer engines hang over the runway, so they could ingest foreign bodies or blow them into the fuselage :)
@andycyyeung111 жыл бұрын
***** The A380 has only two reversers because of its wing span and if the outer engines have reverse function too, the risk of FOD (foreign object damage) increases greatly as the wings have a great span. The A380 has good brakes but for SOP, they never use the maximum, the will usually set it to Low or Medium in the autobrake system depending on runway conditions. In fact because the wing area is so large, the A380 does not need to land any faster than any other airliners such as the A330, so even for something that big and heavy, it doesn't have to be going at a greater speed to create sufficient lift to land and flare.

How did it feel to have the outside of your plane battered by rain and barely can see anything?

Brilliant. I can't understand why this plane is being discontinued. This is the future of flying with all those gadgets in line with CAT111

not enough orders because airlines have abandoned the hub and spoke model such that they fly smaller planes to a larger airport and then from there take an A380 to another major city. With more efficient twinjet airliners capable of the same distance or far greater airlines have adopted for more direct flights. Such a shame i hope i get to fly on one but by the time i embark on my long haul adventures it'll probably be a 777X, 787 or A350!!
