I had one of these, but non-serrated. It caught on my keys and deployed in my pocket when i tried to pull it out, almost exactly as you showed. A second time I tried to get it to function like the wave feature and sliced my pocket open and ruined that pair of pants. Very cool, but a hazard to jeans everywhere.

I wouldnt let me or this guy influence you opinion buy one see for yourself.

Carry it everyday. I had the same problems as you and fixed them with my dremel. The problem is that they didn’t round off any of the manufactured edges, specifically where you would push down to deploy the blade. As a result it would always catch on my pocket like you noticed. I do know that other karambit makers specifically want this to happen, but I didn’t like it catching. Rounding over the edges with a dremel turned it into a super comfy dream knife that is still ready to go with a flick of the wrist!

Nah dude, I've carried this for 2+ years at this point and never had an issue with it even wearing down on the edge of the pocket like many others do, especially the straight tensioned pocket clips from your average folder.
@OGBladeReviews2 жыл бұрын
I consider the "wave opening" as a feature that quite likely was intended. Personally, I don't carry anything else in the pocket that holds any folder, and frankly one could run into the same issue with an Emerson (accidentally opening). A bit of practice, as with any edged implement, is always advised. Good review! 👍🔥🗡️

"and frankly one could run into the same issue with an Emerson (accidentally opening)" Yes. But a Emerson - or a Emerson licensed Spyderco - will not flip out its blade INSIDE your pocket. It'll ALWAYS flip it outside. Thats just the way they are designed. Thats why we don't hear from jeans cut to pieces or people cutting their legs with regular Wave knifes. The hook may wear out the edges of your jeans - but thats a very different story than cutting your leg open, or, at best, terminating your jeans with a single opening.

If you're worried about a deployment, get the holster designed for it. If the lock fails, contact CRKT to repair it or get the spare part to replace the lock yourself. I think this knife is meant to be dangerous and deploy with one hand.

For me it's one of those things where if you want a karambit for self defence either get one with an actual wave feature or just get a small fixed bladed one. With this ya you can "wave" it out of your pocket but I think that was more of an unintended perk rather than a desing feature due to the issues you bring up. With a karambit with a normal wave (or bramp) feature you pull the thing out away from yourself and twards the threat. To the point where you could pull it out and use it really all in one move. It just doesn't seem like a fully thought out thing. Its a cool design but its got issues.

I actually stabbed myself (accidently of course) while trying to spin it forward to open it then backward back into my grip. On the back spin, I must have angled my wrist wrongly and I actually heard that stabbing sound as the tip entered my arm about 4 inches up from my wrist. Didn't hurt that much at the time but, it hurt like hell for about a week after. Also, after doctoring myself up, I went to get the knife to put it away and found my blood on the tip! It was a bit traumatic for me but, a couple weeks later, picked it up again. I pay it a great deal more attention (and respect) now!

I'm sorry but I have owned a CRKT Provoke now for about 6 months and I have never had any issues at all in regards to it's depolyment, locking, or opening up in my pocket. Tight skinny jeans or very very tight pants do tend to self open it when taking it out, but it has never once cut me or my pants. This can also be corrected however by moving it away from the rear of your pocket. Overall, the Provoke is a badass knife, great for edc and self defense. Also, if anything goes wrong or something needs replacing on the blade, CRKT's warranty can not be beat!
@xavierg61892 жыл бұрын
Also, if there is an issue in regards to it deploying in your jeans, a sheath is sold. This will prevent any unintentional openings that may occur, which is very very very unlikely.

I have a feeling the deploy-as-it-exists-pocket is intended. I had another karambit folder that opens in when it comes out of a pocket with a part of the knife that protrudes and acts as a catch on pocket edges to engage the blade as it leaves a pocket. Some people like myself kinda see this as a feature. I don't see myself taking any knife in any of my past draws and twisting towards myself and if I need a knife like that for its intended practical applications, a ripped pocket is probably not on my list of imminent concerns.
@cyleleghorn2462 жыл бұрын
That "feature" you mention from another knife is actually patented: the Emerson "Wave". Emerson Combat Karambits patented it, and for a knife to officially use that little hook as part of their design (Eg, Fox Karambits) they need to pay to license the feature, or risk being sued! The smaller no-name companies don't care, but it has led some of the larger brands like CRKT to innovate and design their own open-on-the-draw systems that do the same thing in a novel way

I have had my Provoke since they first came out until 1 month ago(fishing accident in a deep lake:-(.....) and I always kept it in the watch pocket of my jeans. Never had it cut my jeans or me and very rarely did it deploy pulling it out. Maybe the shallower pocket helps?? It was my daily use utility knife...I know, not what it's designed for, but for quick cuts, it deploys fast and with flair. About to order another one very soon as I miss it A LOT!! I agree that it isn't the most practical, but the cool factor is wicked high!
@MrMann7038 ай бұрын
Had to pause at 1:11. The deploying when it catches the corner of your pocket is intentional design, I watched a video from a knife show a couple years ago with the provokes designer being interviewed, for your quickest deployment catch the corner and for regular deployment don't catch the corner (I could be wrong but im sure I saw him talk about that). Overall great video, I have the zap model arriving tomorrow and know I'll be buying one of the models like you're reviewing. Thought on the lock, if it loosens up over the years with that design as long as a persons grip was secure I would think it would be solid in use. Cheers

Had this knife for 2 years. Never happened to me. I guess mainly because my blade pocket doesn't carry anything else AND just like other karams with wave, it is positioned in the pocket closer to the center of the pants. I pull it out closed. Then just open it when presented. I do not use the Seam/Hem to open it. I only do for the waved blades.

This IS a bit of a gimmicky product. Like, if Batman had a carambit. BUT, it can function as an EDC/self defense weapon. There is a Caswell original design as well for sale but it is far more expensive. There is a sheath if you are worried. Bulky, yes but it´s there... Think thru how you carry your other EDC stuff and adapt. Other vise, practice, practice and practice. And when you think you master it, practice equally more. Just like with handguns. I have used this knife in a real self defense situation and it worked great. Fairly easy to deploy real fast. Cut´s deep. Rest is up to training, as I said. Great video, thank you and greetings from Sweden!!!

When i carry mine I actually just stick it in my pocket because I hate the pocket clip so much. In my state it's not illegal to carry a fixed blade, so I usually edc my tops poker because the blade shape is more functional for most tasks, while still being a good self defense knife in a pinch.

I carry a Fox Karambit with the wave feature. It stays locked up in my pocket and as long as I’m carful it won’t deploy when I take it out. As for if I try and deploy on a pull and it doesn’t you can still use the heft for a flail and hook the wave on them or yourself to deploy.

While deploying this knife can be risky, what makes it appealing to me is the absolute 0% chance of failure in your hand. Not only is it locked but your hand physically holding it makes it incapable of closing on you. I had a fox karambit that I never use anymore. The reason? Because after limited use there’s play in the liner lock. I’d rather have a karambit that I have to deploy more carefully than one that will slice my finger off due to a crappy lock.

It blows my mind that people will spend $10k on guns but then "protect" them with a $300 safe. My buddy had 30 guns stolen by his neighbors kid prying his stack on safes off the wall of his basement and even though the guns were recovered they were all damaged from bouncing around inside his safes in the burglars truck. Stocks were broken and everything was dented and scratched. We went through everything pulling stocks off his guns and documenting the damage and when he filed a claim with his homeowners insurance they responded by saying not only did they deny his claim but they were going to drop his policy because he had "unsecured" firearms in his home. After months of back and forth the insurance company said they will only pay for damaged or stolen guns if they were stored in a 2 hour burn safe that is secured by a minimum of 4 1/2" lag screws or bolts mounted into either concrete or studs in the wall. In the end we had to install 2 $1200 safes in order for him to keep his policy active and he was out of pocket another $5k due the damage of his collection. Most of the guns were No1 Ruger's and custom made so very difficult to have repaired if the gunsmiths who built them were even still alive.

They are designed to do that so it is open and ready to use. Instead of getting it out and placing in your hand then opening it. It should be one motion. Your finger should start in the whole in your pocket or at least starting to go in the whole and as you pull it out you get your finger in and the blade deploys then you grab it ready to rock. That's my understanding.
