In this episode we take a look at some facts, secrets, and history of Luigi. Luigi is was by Nintendo veteran Shigeru Miyamoto, and is portrayed as the fraternal twin brother of Mario. Luigi first appeared in the 1983 game Mario Bros, and reprised his role in Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 3, and Super Mario World onward. The first game where he was available as a primary character was Super Mario Bros 2. Originally developed as a palette swap of Mario with a green color scheme instead of red, Luigi has since developed a personality and style of his own.

Nicktendo 1 I know it's not. Back then, I could not wait for it, even though I knew it wasn't going to be a platformer. Loved the idea of a "more mature" nintendo game.

In the Dutch version of the game it spells out "SPOOK" being the dutch translation of the word "ghost" and not necessarily as the word scare/frightening/spooky since it is pronounced differently. for those who want to know the -oo in the dutch "spook" is pronounced the same as the -o in the word automatic. Essentially like the verb "spoke".

interesting fact: you can still play every gamecube and wii games in 3d. including the first luigi mansion. most of the 3d hardware code was left intact and can be acceded by dolphin emulator on pc. if you have nvidia 3d vision ready hardware.

It could be argued Luigi technically appeared during the intro of Donkey Kong Jr arcade version... that or you can just accept Mario cloned himself to push DK away during the cinematic. Didn't use traditionally green color, but two Marios on the screen is very weird. Considering a year between DK Jr and Mario Bros, it is likely that is your actual first unofficial Luigi.

Not canonical, but I firmly believe that Luigi's first appearance was in the intro to the arcade version of Donkey Kong Jr. You can see Mario and his twin pulling on ropes to lift the caged Donkey Kong to the top of the stage. He's dressed in red, but we all know that Mario only has one twin and there really isn't any other reasonable explanation for who that character could be.

Luigi might have been blue due to cultural differences. In Japan, green is considered a shade of blue rather than a separate color, and many green things will be colored blue in art and animation. This is also why green streetlights in anime are colored blue, despite being the same green as everywhere else in real life.

The Dark Moon bosses were awful. They had actual personality in the original. Who didn't grin when a dead child shrunk you to the size of a mouse and used you for a play thing. Dark Moon was like idk, just have the same sort of ghost keep possessing different furniture I guess.

Did you know: In 2013 Nintendo marketed their 30th anniversary of the Mario franchise as the year of Luigi with a heavy emphasis on titles that would celebrate Luigi. 2013 went on to prove to be one of the absolute worst years of sales/profits in Nintendo's history.
