@@penkima4923it's true, since the break, they have been playing the best and most consistent ball in the league. With an athletic big (Gafford) and a strong defender that can score (PJ Washington), it has changed the dynamic of this team. It feels similar to the chemistry they had with Tyson Chandler in 2011 and bench guys chipping in meaningful minutes. It's going to take a team like Denver, vintage Golden State or Boston to knock them off in a 7 game series... Basketball is subject to dominance by elite players/teams for long periods of time. Luka and the Mavs are poised to break out and stay there for the next decade.

I still have my doubts on the amount of time that Kyrie might need the ball to be effective. Things seemed to work at Brooklyn, with Harden handling the ball a lot. I kinda hope things will work out at Dallas, but I don't think they can be a strong contender with these stars. Both Luka and Kyrie are on a trajectory of having vastly underrated careers, because people only count rings and nothing else.

Yeah most people just believe you slap a bunch of talent together and it's instant success. Chemistry in basketball goes so over looked. It takes time but once you have that the game becomes so much easier. I had friends we'd played 5+ years together in 3 on 3 and 5 v 5 games and it was ridiculous what you could do to other 3v3 squads just by knowing where they like the ball, where you can get kick back passes, them looking for your cuts to the rack, good timing on pick and roll. The more reps you get that stuff all becomes 2nd nature and them game becomes ridiculously easy as errors and miscommunications just vanish.

Jalen is an on the ball player. He just wasn’t going to have that freedom with Luka. He wanted his own team. His father, Godfather and agent are all with the Knicks and he gets to run a team. It was a no brainer for him. I have been a Mavs fan since 1980. Kyrie is a better fit with Luka. He can play on and off the ball like he did with LeBron. Jalen is a point guard. Kyrie is a combo guard. Both are good players. NY is a much better fit for Jalen. We weren’t going to take the ball out of Luka’s hands to give to Jalen Brunson.

Yes, because I’m a mavs fan who actually watched his development for 4 years. If you watch him now, he even uses Lukas moves when slowing down to a stop during a drive. He didn’t do that, hell he couldn’t stay on the floor the previous two years playoffs because he was terrible. Now he uses his body and controls his pace like Luka. He always had the footwork and shot. I’ll give him that, but he was not a starter until he was.

It annoys me a little that JJ won't press luka on certain things. Why does luka not play in transition AT ALL now compared to in Europe where he was great at it? Why does luka insist on doing absolutely nothing when the ball is not in his hands on offense, especially now that he's got a guy like Kyrie on his team to dribble too? Does jj actually think luka has been good on defense? He's had moments of a steal or a rotation, but defense is not about moments it's about the totality and Luka has way more mediocre or bad plays than good ones. Luka is an absolutely astonishingly great player, but he has certain flaws and it's unfortunate that JJ was more interested in making the podcast feel inviting to players than really unpacking some of the genuine concerns people have about his game.

Im sorry. But at 2:39 not sure I agree that Jalen Brunson in Dallas was not the Jalen Brunson now in New York. That's BS, that's why NY got him. Mavs Front Offixe should've kept him.
