Where I grew up you only get certain foods in certain seasons...take it or leave it...means there is no over indulgence in exotic strawberries or bluberries (don't grow there naturally) and there is respect for what is available when its available.

So true about eating healthy on a budget. Like you can buy enough carbs and peanut butter and pasta sauce to live for a week OR fixings for a single salad.
@karlsvensk3934 жыл бұрын
If raw vegetables are the only thing you think is healthy, then yeah I guess. But in real life, carbs are good for you, especially cheap ones like beans and sweet potatoes. McDonalds is way more money than split pea soup when you're feeding a whole family, and she knows this. Literally the only time poverty demands fast food is when you are homeless and can't access a kitchen. Even then, I'd rather eat out of a tub of peanut butter from the corner store.
@NamedForANightmare4 жыл бұрын
@@karlsvensk393 Oh I know there are healthy options that are inexpensive and last a long time, I love lentils and stuff, but fresh fruit and vegetables are important and it's kinda ridiculous how expensive they can be. If you're really short on money what are you gonna buy, a bag of pasta or potatoes, or a couple oranges or some spinach? I agree with the fast food thing though, we never got McDonald's when I was a kid. Usually once a week we got a frozen pizza that was made at the grocery store for like $5 and get a couple meals out of that.
@karlsvensk3934 жыл бұрын
@@NamedForANightmare When I'm most hard up I try to avoid delicate foods and stick to hearty things like cabbage, beets, apples, onion, carrot. Also processed foods like applesauce, canned sauerkraut, frozen green beans, canned tomato, etc. I think the real trouble with poverty is eating nuts, seeds, spices, and herbs which are all important sources of nutrients, but don't get talked about as health food the way people fetishize grapes or cucumbers or whatever. Dollar store dusty seasonings that are mostly salt, and tiny rancid packs of fried nuts are not in the same universe as fresh hemp seeds, turmeric, etc.

@kayla-hn8zr3 жыл бұрын
Coming from someone who wants to lose weight, it isn't that bad of a price. Vegetables are more affordable than fast food. I can probably make a salad or low-carb chicken meal for the price of a 20 piece McNuggets meal. It's just hard to find the motivation to go to the store and make the food. LOL I get intensely lazy about cooking cause I'm used to my mom making me food. We live off food stamps, but she always buys frozen food for us so it's easy to make so I don't really care about cooking my own food, you know?

Years ago, I found a little booklet for the 5-day diet. I did it for over a year. I ate a low calorie diet all week, and then, anything I wanted on the weekends. I can't tell you how wonderful it was to have the freedom to do what I wanted when I knew that I had given myself permission to start over every Monday. I think that's really what I still do. One of neighbours that they jacked the price to $130. I heard it's a cult type work environment. They have workout days on your days off. If you do opt out you're seen as the black sheep. That you're dedicated to the cause. Uncertain if the practice still exists. Plus having men in that place. Let's just say that there too much enthusiasm and attention you so richly deserve.
