Another song from Wintersun with a totally different vibe, a true masterpiece is Loneliness. It's a perfect portrayal of Jari's abilities as a write and singer. I don't know what metal genres you're interested in or familiar with but another great Finnish melodeath band, you'll see a bunch of reaction videos of is Insomnium with a song called While We Sleep.

That drummer, Kai Hahto, you're just witnessing is a permanent member of the Nightwish nowadays. Jukka, from the Wacken live show, is now the manager of the band and CEO of their company (If I remember correctly) due to severe case of insomnia. Hahto is one of the best metal drummers in the world. Extremely versatile. Capable of delivering the most brutal and fast blast beats and able to withstand whatever Tuomas Holopainen (from Nightwish, but you knew that one), one of the biggest musical geniuses of our time, thinks to throw at him. Also, Jari Maenpaa, the vocalist of Wintersun is pretty much a Finnish version of Devin Townsend: he writes, composes and plays every instrument on record. If you don't know who Townsend is, I strongly suggest you get to know him as well.

I'm a huge Nightwish fan first and foremost, but I do listen to a hell lot of Metal (power, trash, melodeath, viking, folk...) So, here's a brief list of some of my favorite bands : Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, Wuthering Heights, Sabaton, Alestorm, Ensiferum, Amorphis, Amon Amarth, Wintersun, Unleash the Archers, Powerwolf, Myrath, Korpiklaani, Turisas, Arcturus, Battle Beast, Beast in Black, Ragenheart, Dimmu Borgir, Arch Enemy, Eluveitie, Epica, Within Temptation, Kamelot, Helloween, Gamma Ray, Stratovarius, Avantasia, Edguy... and many many more, but these are some classic of the genres I cited above.

Eternal Darkness (Autumn) from Wintersun is my favorite. You should definitely check it out for a darker sound and one of the best solos. Gets me everytime

Ne Obliviscaris and Plague Flowers the Kaliedoscope I'm not sure how many genres came fit into a single song and still come across amazing, suggest either the live or studio version both are epic. Great reaction as always 🤘❤️🤘

Plenty of them coming from Finland... if you'd like to try 80's type powermetal try Battle Beast "Black Ninja" and Beast in Black "Blind and Frozen". And btw, Wintersun may need to be listened to a couple of times before you really learn to appreciate them.

I think Time is my favorite Wintersun song. Loneliness is another really good one that's real emotional. Might be worth it to watch a lyric video of that. Really the entire first album is good melodic death metal, the second album is more of the same with a bigger focus on ambience and effects, and the latest album is based on the four seasons so each track has a pretty different vibe. Easily my favorite band.

There is something called viking metal. But Amon Amarth are not it. AA is melodic death metal. Viking metal is a mix of folk metal and black metal and doesn't sound like Amon Amarth at all.

Cool reaction to one of the three song rehearsals at Sonic Pump Studios by Wintersun that can be found in YT. Jari Mäenpää, the vocalist & multi-instrumentalist (For their latest album "The Forest Seasons" released in 2017 he composed all the songs, played all the instruments, recorded & mixed and also produced the entire album. Only some additional vocals & choirs were done by other people.) is another Finnish musical genius. Furthermore, he only has one normal lung as parts of his other lung were removed because of tubeculosis P.S. In case your're not turned off by harsh vocals, I'd like to suggest this music video by the former band of Wintersun's bassist Jukka Koskinen: Norther- Mirror of Madness kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpuoiZVrnbCFm80 which is melodic death metal a.k.a. melodeath.

He should have warned you of the 14 minutes, but like me he just forgot. At least since 1981, when Iron Maiden put a 15 minute classic called Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner in their album Powerslave, lots of metal bands make songs as long as they need to be. I believe Manowar still hold the record with a 28 minute song about Achilles at Troy called Achilles, Agony and Ecstasy. Iron Maiden also pioneered the kind of guitar harmonies that you heard from Wintersun. All this will come in handy when you come down from that first Nightwish high. They are part of a traditon. Have fun.

Finnish metal is the best metal of the world. Just like bands like a Wintersun, Children Of Bodom, Nightwish, Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, Evil Drive, Warmen, Elias "Evil" Viljanen, HIM, Apocalyptica, Tarot, Thunderstone, Raskasta Joulua, Jarkko Ahola, Sentenced, Brother Firetribe, Kenziner, Tarja Turunen... The lead vocalist is using about 75%of his lungs due to damage from TB!!! The drummer, Kai , is now with Nightwish having taken Jukka's place due to his health issues.
