Bigger fish tend to come to dead bait more often than too a lure. It’s not too cold to lure fish but in some venues you’d just need to slow down the retrieval rate as the fish may not be as lively. They won’t use up energy chasing super fast food. They prefer an easy target.

slowly working my way through my watch list, another great video steve, some stunning mint perfect pike there! those jig flies are something else when it comes to catch rate on all venues, I can see why you use them. I have caught on pike flies when fly fishing for them in the past, but never used a jig fly, you should have ago at knocking some up yourself. Lovely stretch of waterway that looks too! ;) PS what weight of rod is that rated too and the length too? nice set up for this type of fishing you do!

Steve - lovely pike - the slow mo of the takes are awesome! Had one the other week which, as you described, gave me a heart attack! Retrieved a Firetiger lure but it began feeling 'different' - normally, because it's attached to a leaf. Sure enough, as I got it to within 6 inches of the surface I could see the leaf, and began to swing the lure out.....water exploded as a 4lb jack launched itself at it! I struck out of reflex and landed her. But as you say, scary moments..!! As a predominantly lure angler, can you tell me where to obtain those jig flies? - I don't have Facebook but am willing to give my email address. They seem the business. Please let me know.
