I've had my basic assisted opening one in the black G10 with the bead blasted 8cr13mov for over 6 years. It's a good EDC. Like you said "easy to maintain".

100% of Kershaw customers would pay double for this beautiful non-assisted opener if it was made domestically with upgraded steel.

They’re great looking knives, and I love the blue one with CF, and I’m also happy that they’re coming out with versions with ball bearings, BUT, the steel NEEDS to be upgraded to D2 or better on ALL the models!

Hey been watching ya fer years, thank you for all of your input and humor and all the awesome (and not-so) knives you show. Anyhow now my respect for you is known so no more mushy wind up your skirt praise. I have a TS19 on the way and your bit was just enough to give me the confidence to buy. I can’t wait for it. Sooo glad nonassisted model was made. Changed my opinion on knife also(natrix) Oh I saw the xl is on kvt . I couldn’t find the copper yet.

I like assisted opening knives. My favorites are designed by Ken Onion, the Speed Bump. I have all the models of it. I like the feel of the blade popping out with force...very similar to an automatic. I will continue to buy the assisted opening knives 'cos I like them!

Love your videos they're always awesome the one thing I have to say about the nature works is that it's not worth the money unless they figure a way to stop the late lock-up of the subframe lock it's worthless because it will go all the way over and lock the blade open I've had that problem cuz I tried one I bought one of the spring assisted and that's what happened to it that's the major flaw with Kershaw Knives is they have to lay the lock-up on their lower price models

I didn't buy a Natrix because of the G10 frame/handle combo. It's just too weak for my needs. I occasionally open a can of food or pry open large box staples and otherwise use, not abuse, a knife for a tool. My Clash has handled everything without any damage but it's too bulky & heavy to carry in slacks or shorts. The Leek tip is too fragile if dropped on a hard surface or used to twist or pry. So I'm still looking for a new thin & lightweight but sturdy EDC knife. As for the 8CR13MOV steel: It doesn't stay sharp long except when cutting a sandwich in half (as long as you don't cut the paper plate under it). But you can quickly sharpen it on the bottom of a ceramic coffee cup or any old rock laying around with some spit & strop it on cardboard or your denim pant leg. That's handy. You can't do so with higher end steel. Of course, you'll wear the blade down quicker from having to sharpen it, but IMO, a worn down knife has character. I cherish my dad's Case trapper that he wore down on a round stone over many ears skinning bobcats, cougars & deer. I used it when he taught me to skin & before he bought me my own skinning knife, a Queen Steel stockman type. (Which I lost & found often, but eventually lost for good.) But my first real knife was the same as a lot of young boys then: A Barlow from a general store. It was the perfect companion to a Zebco 101 fishing reel and hand-me-down boots.

I would love to have a bigger, D2 version of that blue, and, Carbon Fiber Natrix. A 3.75 - 4 inch blade would be ideal.

That cf blue one is a really sharp (no pun)knife, now that it’s on bearings! Kinda a beaut. The 8cr is getting old, especially for a “higher” priced Kershaw. I mean it sharpens well and fast, but at least go up to a 440c. I mean ganzo has better blades!

A big thank you that said what I've been saying abt the 8crmov steel. The minute I see this steel, I move on to another choice. Kershaw had the 14c28n steel done specifically for their knives then didnt use it. I dont get it. No I don't want the OVERPRICED super steels for my folders cuz I use them as tools, I want something affordable for my folders n 14c28n is it. I can buy folders w 14c28n and even d2 for the same prices as these two Kershaws. I'll wait for the d2 version.

Kershaw (Gezundheit!) is absolutely and inexplicably dead-set on 8Cr - and it's so disturbing as to make me commit to NO KERSHAWS EVER no sweat. It's so stupid and SO near the low end of the scale as to make me question their mental competence. It's like putting motorcycle tires on a Maserati!

Hey LTK , does Kershaw give out deep carry pocket clips , if I call and ask , like Benchmade does ?? Does anyone Know ? If not, that's a good thing about the Natrix , it's a great design , I just have way too many 8cr knives in my collection, but I definitely can use the clip for my Launch 6 and my M390 Dividend. I really Hope Kershaw upgrades their steel next year or at least gives the option to on some models , especially their collaberations.

Why don't you like assisted opening? I have never had assisted so i would like to know. TY
@SteveKluver
@SteveKluver 5 жыл бұрын
Well, for one thing. And maybe the main thing? Is that you are not getting a 'pure' folding knife experience, when you have an assist. Also, no real way to get any feedback feel in your hands, when opening. As to if the pivot is working smoothly, and slack free, for example. Kind of like an automatic door opener at a store. You have no idea how heavy that door is, or how easily it opens. Does the door feel gritty, when opening? Does it need some oil or maintenance? No way to know, right? Because it's assisted. Kind of like cheating. Plus, the assist components, are one more thing to go wrong.

@@SteveKluver i see now. I have a auto knife a bear and sons and all i ever did with it was open it and the POS spring broke and now i can't use it till i send it back to them so they can fix it. So i will never buy another auto knife. I didn't know the assisted knives worked off the same concept
@jerrymillett3895
@jerrymillett3895 5 жыл бұрын
RAIN MAYHEM I associate assisted blades with sub par bearings or washers. With good bearings, the knife should fly open just as fast as an assisted. I guess I assume (which I shouldn’t) that they throw the assist on because detent and opening action isn’t good enough to b manual. Plus added weight and complicates internals, not to mention could break. Autos are cool I think. Not so kind to assisted

RAIN MAYHEM Hey bud, I didn’t take the time to read the responses to your question. I hadn’t realized that someone already explained it in a way that you agreed with. Guess I’m just letting you know I wasn’t trying to beat a dead horse. Btw- if the assist breaks you can normally remove it and still have a working knife, or if you don’t want assist you can take it out (but that’s where finding out how good a manual knife it really is comes in play). I never tried to fix an auto. Thanks for letting me blab on.
