This is perhaps the best video on a vintage Cartier lighter on the entirety of KZbin. Bravo!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Actually helpful, informative, and clearly spoken!! Much appreciated. I do have a question though, where did you find those Cartier flints?? I can’t find them ANYWHERE.
@sy2km2344 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the kind words. Now to your question, I bought the flints from a lighter collector on eBay, I unfortunately think that he doesn’t sell them anymore and I honestly can’t find any others for sale too. What I would recommend you to do, is go to a local cigar/ lighter shop (anywhere where they sell high quality lighters, like St. DuPont, Dunhill, etc.) and see if the flint stones for those lighters fit. Oftentimes the salespersons are very helpful and can tell you which ones work best.

SY2K M Hi haha, thank you for your help! I did speak to a flint salesman on Etsy and he said to try Clipper Flints as he’s heard that the Cartier briquets use smaller sized flints and so do clipper lighters. I’ll let you know if they work or not when I get them. But they look very similar to the Cartier flints in your video. Thanks again for your help!! 😊

If you're interested, Cartier actually has a patent for the lighter's flint screw. It performs four functions. But most importantly, it works both as the flint spring AS WELL as the flame adjustment screw.

Hi there, i know it's been a while since you posted this comment but it has been very helpful! What 4 functions did that flint screw have? Besides the flame controll and holding the flint?
@shellshock102 ай бұрын
@@jonasverbelen8654im guessing another would be a “lock mechanism” since the well won’t spin if there is no flint.

Great vid, great lighter! Do you have experience repairing such lighters? I bought a used one and wanted to clean it, but when I disassembled some parts of the opening mechanism fell apart. i know where the parts belong, but there are two springs and i am not sure in which position the arms of the springs should be attached.

Great video! Please make more. Would love to see a comparison between Cartier, Dunhill and Dupont!
@1911FanBoi3 жыл бұрын
I have dunhill and DuPont. Both great and have advantages over one another. Dunhill is better ergonomically because its thinner and the special flame wheel on the side. DuPont is built very nice but ergo sucks and the flame adjuster is on the bottom. 3 step process just to adjust it.

Great Video! I managed to get my hands on a similar lightet. Cleaned it up, changed the flint and added butane. It works, but the flame is half of yours. Any ideas why?
@ami59759 ай бұрын
I think the flame adjustment method is the same as shown in kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHi0dImOmdyqrassi=WXloWTJ4QOHuFi4g

Great vid.I actually found my fathers old Cartier lighter,but I can’t determine whether it’s fake or not.Any tips?

Firstly congratulations on the find! I’d compare the lighter you found to other authentic listings on eBay, etc. look at the details (Cartier engraving, etc.). Alternatively you can also send me some pictures via email and I can take a look at it, be aware however, that I am no expert either! My email: stefanmicsmac@gmail.com

Hey mate, great video. Was this that convinced me to get my own cartier! I just bought a cartier lighter off ebay and the gas flows fine and it sparks but it often takes at least 10 flicks of the flint before the gas ignites. It is sparking and the gas is the same gas I use in other lighters e.g. Dunhill so I don't know what's wrong. The flame burns fine after being lit. Any idea? Thanks in advance.

Firstly, congratulations for buying such a fantastic lighter! Now to your issue, I had the same problem when I originally bought my lighter. I disassembled it and completely cleaned the mechanism (dirt keeps the cap from opening completely and doesn’t allow gas flow) lubricate it right after cleaning and add a new flint stone. After that is done just follow the things I said in the video! I hope that you can get it working again!
@julianyau90233 жыл бұрын
@@sy2km234 thanks for getting back to me. A couple things, what did you use to clean it? Should I steer clear of soap? Secondly, I dismantled it and took the gas tank, flints and spring out however upon reassembly, I can no longer hear the gas coming out. I've checked and its definitely got gas in the tank but it now seems to be not coming out. Again, any help is greatly appreciated.
@sy2km2343 жыл бұрын
julian yau I used distilled water and a jewelry cleaner, basically nothing that would leave a harming residue. It is possible that during cleaning you accidentally screwed the valve on the tank on tighter then it should be. The only way to fix it is by trying, just open it up slightly and see if the gas flow resumes. Then you should be good to go!

hi im from phillipines can i ask, how much is the cost of a cartier lighter if its not working?
@sy2km2343 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the condition, color, finishing, and how complete it is. But generally, I’d say it should be between $40-100 for a none working model keeping the aspects above in mind it could be more or less.

I used bad butane in mine and now the hatch is really difficult to open and close! Please help! It was my grandmothers and I don’t know how to fix it!
@sy2km2342 жыл бұрын
The quality of the butane should not have an effect on the functionality of the lid. What may have happened is that you pressed down too hard while filling it and thus damaged the mechanism. Otherwise, you may simply have to lubricate it. Check out my latest video on closer instructions on how to do that.

I tend to look on eBay, but Craigslist or estate sales can also be good ways to get your hands one one of these great lighters.
