The dac unit of this thing competes with dacs up to 10k leaving lots of stuff behind including spring 3. Amp is weak but so are most daps.

To me sounds like an improved rme adi dac2 fs that has better peaks. I’m guessing it’s the dark background that you really like about it the most. Def Not as good as holo may l2 imo. I have a $800 vintage dac that beats it.

I can only assume, you didn’t pair it with a totl iem, but tried to run it with demanding over ears that obviously will sound better from a powerful amp.

Here is the thing. When people ask this question, I don’t think they really know what they are asking. Being able to get a headphone to your normal listening volume, and properly driving the headphone so that they headphone is performing near the best of its ability are two very different things. It’s very rare that an amp can’t get a headphone to your normal listening volume, and it’s fairly uncommon for something to drive hd800 near the edge of its ability.

Imo. No. I liked AK sp3000 slightly better but they are both fairly close. If you want a duller/calmer sound then maybe you would like this one more instead.
