I just sold the rest of my collection and went the one Rolex route a month ago. Having a one and done watch is pretty fun. Now I can consume watch media like I did automotive media during the heyday of printed car journalism 20-25 years ago. I’m enjoying them without feeling the need to keep replacing my only car.

I have 007 Seamaster, 3861 mw Crystal Black & White, Submariner Starbucks, Fifty Fathoms Barakuda, and Longines Legend Diver and I have lost the love to buy additional watches. I think this is a collection that leaves nothing more to be desired. Sometimes AP Royal Oak or Ceramic Daytona catch my eye, but I am always happy when I choose a watch every day morning and can be satisfied without having to spend for that any more.

That's wild to think I can have 6 omegas for the price of a Submariner. Wow. Because my ideal watch collection is a Seamaster Heritage 300, an Aqua Terra, and a Speedmaster... maybe a world timer? And they're all arguably better watches than their Rolex counterparts. I'd like to own a Sub someday, but I just generally like Omega better anyways.

I think that would make a great collection. Incredibly versatile. Both brands do the same job, it mostly just comes down to preference. For me, the big thing between the SMP and Submariner is the size. I lean more towards the older 40mm Submariner, but value-wise, the SMP wins it in my eyes.

I own a bunch of omegas. But yeah.. clearly Rolex are better with bracelets.. I mean omega just recently got some kind of quick adjust on AT and speedmaster models (and this was in like 2023/2024). And the system is just fucking terrible.. the bracelets for Rolex are obviously superior - even though some of my fellow omega fanboys won’t admit it

@@KeepingWatchUK IMHO the sub hasn’t changed in a very long time, aside from new colors, you could put them all side by side and not see a whole lot of difference. Again my opinion. I just don’t see a whole lot of innovation or refinement in Rolex. Oh look at our new multi color bubble dial, oh look at our new green sub. I’m just not impressed. *edit Also Rolex has stopped being a watch company and has started being a status and luxury company, half the people I can think of care more about the crown than what goes into the watch itself.

@@arancourt5623 First, the Submariner not really changing is kind of the whole point. Rolex nailed the design the first time and doesn't need to change it. The only reason it looks dated is because every watch company needs to rip off it's design. Second, Rolex innovates all the time. Yachtmaster II, Sky Dweller, Cellini, 1908, the new 2023 Daytona movement has full Cortes Geneve stripes and double the ceramic bearings and still having a completely silent rotor and not a single peep from anymore. No one cares, so why should Rolex care? Lastly, Omega makes 700K watches a year. They're the second largest manufacturer in this segment behind Rolex and Longines and have produced more watches throughout history than Rolex has. If you think everyone buying an Omega is a hardcore watch collector you're kidding yourself lol.

I'll say what others probably will, as well. If you want that Rolex, then no amount of Omegas or Tudors or IWCs is going to replace what you really want. What's the good of having a rotation of watches that you like less than the one you want to wear all the time? Note, I'm not advocating for or against this position, but I think it's the reality. Same for folks who choose a monochrome instead of a no-date sub because it works as well and is affordable. If you have a Rolex (or whatever) itch, then scratch it with the one you want.

@@watchfinder Owning a Rolex is more of a goal, but like most material things, the satisfaction is short-lived. While Rolex's finishes are of superior quality, I love the dimensions and aesthetics of the SMP. It's more modern, sporty, and casual, and the rubber strap fits it perfectly. It is also a very precise watch, with an excellent movement.

As a watch enthusiast I would choose the Omega set - but just Speedy, De ville, and Seamaster because they make a complete collection already. As a person not so into watches than the Sub. People usually get Rolex for a one and done are not deeply into watches because they think the crown is the best and are more concerned on how people see them. A watch lover would have a hard time with just one and their many clothes and ever changing lifestyle. The sub, a great watch is more casual, that's why it's a sport/professional model from the brand. Sure you can wear it with a suit, but Im sure you would rather wear a leather dress watch - 36-39mm diameter, thin case, no colored sporty bezel. It's like wearing sneakers with your suit. Besides the perfect one watch Rolex is a DateJust (or Day/Date) as the perfect Omega is the Seamaster Aqua terra - pure class!

Had a 2 tone gmt master back in 2003 sold it 2010 now have a speedy 3861 Aqua Terra 38mm Tudor bronze brown 43mm breitling colt 44 and my trust 35 year old Tag Heuer 2000 and have zero desire for another Rolex it was nothing special only good for the wrong type of interest from people I didn’t want to talk too much

Because it's overpriced. It's not like the Omega is 1/2 as good as the Rolex. Or that 6 Omegas isn't a better deal/value then one Rolex. Basically it's Rolex so therefore it's worth way more. Of course we don't know exactly because they won't say how long the watch winder is running for, but 8 hrs is a realistic presumption based on what information they provide. No one dares to ask, you know, because it's all marketing. Noisy rotors, come on, do you just make stuff up to fit your narrative😂. Power reserve is another elementary belief. Let me put it this way. An Omega will maintain time regularity for longer than what Rolex will, so what's the point of having a longer power reserve. Comfort is subjective. I find it comical that Rolex fans claim the importance of a comfortable bracelet. Here's a hot tip. All straps are by far more comfortable than a bracelet can ever be. Rolex😂😂 I actually had a call from my local Rolex dealer last week to come down……excited! however…after being on the waiting list for a gmt for over 5 years I was told that because I don’t have any buying history with that shop In would not be offered a gmt or sub nor any Rolex😂 WHAT? So why was I asked to put my name down? The lady said though that if I was to purchase 5/6 other brands I could then be “considered” WTF! HOWEVER, she did say that they now have an on-line reseller outlet for used Rolex, she showed me a 2017 gmt Pepsi for £26995! and I could have that almost immediately😂 so the gmt is what £8300? retail. BLACKMAIL springs to mind, anyhow there are plenty of better watches that you can actually buy 😊👍
