4.3’s will always be bad ass no matter what model they are. Even the stock 20-teen era V6’s make great power! My brother has a 16 Silverado with a 4.3 and it is absolutely no slouch! Chevy knows they have to compete with fords ever-impressive ecoboost engines and I’d say they’ve done it! Especially in terms of reliability.

Why couldn’t u run the ignition box like the carb ls with coils
@MrNeildrake7 ай бұрын
@@C0rvette454 That MSD box is only configured to run a V8. I've contacted the folks at MSD and they weren't willing to change it to run V6. On my other LV3, I run a standalone computer from Performance Electronics called a PE3-IG2 to fire stock coils. I run that with carb.
@rascle294 ай бұрын
@@MrNeildrake where did you find the Coil Wires? Or just modify the OEM wiring, everything I’m finding online are for the v8’s, and I’m under the impression that the V8’s coil harness won’t work for the v6, it’ll cause misfires. Unless I’m wrong?

If you gain power because the oil is chemically less viscous, then it also stands to reason that the pump has an easier time pushing it through the engine. Less viscous friction losses through out the journal bearing surfaces, oil galleries, and pump itself would mean less back pressure and thus less measured oil pressure. **** assuming oil volume flow rate is the same ****

I love this little thing... I think it's awesome with a lot of "outside" the box thinking. I really like your distributor setup and would love to build a similar setup for my aluminum 5.3 as I hate the MSD box with a passion and I am so over it failing. A couple of questions if you don't mind... 1] Where did you get the harmonic balancer that you are running ? 2] Any videos on you building the distributor setup ? I think this little ripper defiantly has some untapped potential. Looking forward to your adventure discovering it. Take care

So, correct me if I’m wrong, but it looks like your header collector isn’t “clocked”. Meaning, the primaries don’t enter the collector sequentially, based on firing order. Track Day Classics pointed out that the firing order has a big impact on sound in their 8-1 header video.
@MrNeildrake11 ай бұрын
You are correct, I did not clock it sequential. I don’t think it would have helped the hp. I don’t know how much the sound would change. It’s an awful lot of work to go find out
@syntropy302010 ай бұрын
Since 90 deg v8 it isnt even pulsing so I don't see any benefit of a 6 into 1 collector. Keeping the two headers separate with equal length runners will give even pulsing on each bank thus better scavaging for the desired rpm.

The eldelbrock carb is more tunable. The equivalent of the holly If the friction was reduced in the engine to make an extra 2+ HP and Torque. I think the reduced friction in the oil system was flowing with reduced friction so the oil pump trying to pump oil thru out the engine oil pressure was reduced to the oil gauge.

That 6-1 had an interesting sound. Do you have some idea why it was lacking? Could be made to work better with a different primary dia or length? Would it work at a higher RPM?
@MrNeildrake11 ай бұрын
A few things hurt this header. The primary diameter was only 1 3/4” whereas my long tubes are 1 7/8”, there’s some pretty tight bends(and a lot of them) to get to the collector, some of the primaries are in excess of 40”, and then the inside of the collector where the merge is has a pretty low cross sectional area. In a rear or mid-engined car, like my Porsche 914, I’d give up some hp to keep that sound though.
@colinbowman881611 ай бұрын
Interesting. I'm still confused about merge collector sorcery. Why doesn't an equal length, symmetric 3-1 on each side (making a 3-2-1 overall with the left and right systems being mirrored) get you a very similar sound to a 6-1? The exhaust pulses into the final tube would still all arrive equally one after another. Fabrication and fitment would have to be easier, and you could get shorter primaries, which helps move power to a higher RPM (do I have that right?) 300+ WHP from a torquey NA motor would make a 914 scoot for sure. It would outrun a lot of modern stuff on a track. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fneoeZWcr7ukq6ssi=C7RSJYHLOIG0V23Z @MrNeildrake

I run 3-1 on each side then x-pipe on my El Camino hoping for similar effect but I think that last 2-1 needs to be closer to 3-1 to get that sound. In a front motor, rear drive car, that packaging is hard to achieve.
@colinbowman881611 ай бұрын
kzbin.info/www/bejne/iaCoeZ15e5d3rpY Would you say this LS7 is making 'the sound'? Because it's 4-1 headers with a X pipe just a few inches beyond the end of the headers. It kind of sounds like a 8-1 as Mike points out. @@MrNeildrake

Little higher oil temps will often give more hp, that said not an entirely scientific setup, but unless the engine was broken in for 500-1000 miles your dealing with splitting hairs there, obviously you did some break-in on the dyno? How about running those same test on the exact min-sec startup and dyno run after sitting over night, an then pray in the morning the atmospheric pressure and air temp is the same as the previous day.....
