Firearms do make for a more polite society, huh?! Great song from my youth. I'll never forget the morning after the plane crash. Our high school was full of kids crying. I may or may not have been one of them! Thanks Don.

I grew up in a house where you didn't touch the radio dial. Well, not with anything you wanted to keep. Country was the only music. Now that's not to say there wasn't a little bit of CCR, Neil Sedaka, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, The Monkeys, Donna Summer, Olivia Newton John, and others thrown in the mix occasionally, because we also had a TV. But, If I hadn't watched a friend singing and dancing along with "Gimme Three Steps", I might never have taken any other music to heart. I owe my eclectic music tastes to Lynyrd Skynyrd. Their music inspired me to listen closer and find something in every song. If I didn't like the music I'd find something in the words. If I didn't like the words, I'd find something in the music. Now I love it all, even the stuff I don't like. Every picture tells a story, and the music brings it home.

An existential song in as much as "it ain't no fun staring straight down a 44!" Life becomes much clearer when it is hanging in the balance, ha, ha, ha! Not that I'm recommending any such experiences for anyone, LOL! 🤔😏💘👌

The name according to bob burns the original bassist comes from a running joke within the band which has links to the song camp Grenada the involvement of coach skinner was just a coincidence

Larry Jungstrom was the original bassist. Bob Burns was the original drummer.

Great background story! Love this song! My favorite line is right after the first verse. They only put the line in live versions. Says " no, I ain't gonna fight you over your _____!" That's real life!

"Get da hell outta Dodge" is just a expression. LS guys were known as the baddest, toughest band, often getting into barroom brawls and winning them.

From this same concert he felt so disrespected that during Freebird he dragged and pushed the 3 guitarists out onto the tongue. The players seemed a little nervous about it and were a little restrained and stiff during the guitar section.

Can you imagine how much great music we'd've gotten to enjoy had Ronnie not died? The band wasn't the same after that, but still put together some good songs. But what a pioneering group they were, even (kinda) calling out their label, MCA, by referring to them all as "city slickers" and "Yankees" and making real clear he's gonna watch where the band's money goes.
