I recently purchased the .380 EZ for my mother in law. She has really bad arthritis. We had went shooting and she had been carrying a Ruger LCP 2, we got to the range and she could rack the slide at all. I asked her if she carried with 1 in the chamber and she said no. I knew right then I had to do something, if she had pulled that gun out and needed it there was no way she could rack it. I tried to convince her to at least carry chambered but with her 5 year old grand daughter in the house and that gun having no safety she wasnt going to take that chance. Once I racked her LCP 2 she couldnt hit anything with it, terrible flinching shooting 2 ft low into the dirt. When we got back home I told my wife about what had happened and we immediately went and purchased the S&W .380 EZ for her Christmas present. Went back the next day and told her I had a pistol I wanted her to try. I had her load the mag and at first she was having trouble and I showed her the tabs to pull the follower down and she had no problem, step 1 complete. She then anticipating having trouble with the slide she rolled her eyes and wanted me to do it, I told her to try it, she pulled back on the slide and her eyes lit up, she could rack it. step 2 down. Then as I expected flinch and low, but she says this doesnt kick like her LCP 2, so I had her hold on target and told her to just keep saying squeeze, squeeze, squeeze and let the shot just happen. Next shot she hit a 8 inch gong at 10 yards, next shot was a hit as well, the smile on her face was worth the price of the gun. I asked if she liked it, and of coarse she said yes so I said Merry Christmas it's yours. She said I cant take your gun, I said well good because we bought it for you and you just fired the first shots out of it. It was awesome. Sorry for the long comment just wanted to share.

I LOVE happy endings, especially if they end with bullets on target. Got the 9mm EZ for my little, skinny, 12 year old, great granddaughter. She grinned ear to ear when she braced to rack it and found out how easy it was. Now she shoots a 9 while her mom only shoots a 380.

I have seen a lot of reviews on both guns. It is funny how some raved about the shield but wimp out on the EZ. Older people, ladies etc. What the heck is wrong with a gun that is just plain easier to use. I have both and prefer the EZ because IT IS EASIER to use and load. It is not a wimp gun.

Amen Brother. Preach it. I'm an old coot who has never had any trouble with any semi-pistol I've tried, but my wife though does have trouble. We got her an EZ 380 that she loves. After one range session, I went back and bought myself an EZ9. It's just plain "easier." That's a good enough reason for me to have one.

This is a very well done and informative video. That J's for posting it At 70 years old and arthritis issues in both thumbs, I figured my shooting days were gone as I could no longer safely operate and shoot with my Ruger P85 Mark II I've had for decades. When I heard about the EZ I decided to take a look at it and it is now my EDC. You can be assured there is nothing wimpy about this pistol nor the round that it fires. Overall a great job by Smith and Wesson and truly shows that they understand all areas of the shooting world.

I’ve owned both, and both can be used by anyone, I chose the EZ because I consider it an upgrade to my original Shield, I ordered it with the special night sights and I’m totally satisfied, no issue as a EDC either, I’ve seen some reviews that I thought were degrading saying this gun is meant for new “shooters”, whatever…lol…I’m 66 with numerous weapons in my safe, this is a very good gun for the experience or newbies!

Thank you for this elusive metric. I’m 78 in a few months and I’m gradually getting rid of my guns based on my ability to rack the slides. Sigs are still viable but glocks ,cz and S&W are gone. This should be a PUBLISHED SPECIFICATION ON ALL GUNS!

One thing to remember on any Hammer fired gun is the first time you cycle the slide by hand it is going to be stiffer then the second time because the first time you are working against The Recoil spring and also the hammer spring where once the hammer is cocked you are not fighting the hammer spring when cycling the slide... at least on a gun with an external Hammer you can cock the Hammer with your thumb before you cycle the slide if you want the slide to be easier to cycle by hand when loading the first round

Isn't this the same on a striker fired gun, it's just a striker you're cocking instead of a hammer?

I bought a Shield Plus and we got my wife a 9MM Shield EZ the next week. The EZ is Easier to wrack, load the magazine and even inserting the magazine into the gun. Once my wife got comfortable with her new gun and figured out the dynamics of how to wrack the slide she found that she like the feel of my Plus better than the EZ. Needless to say we sold the EZ and got her a Plus. Due to the smaller spring in the EZ it felt like it had more recoil than the Shield Plus. The slightly wider grip of the Plus to accommodate the 13 and 10 round magazines makes it feel very comfortable in your hand.
@ron5935
@ron5935 3 жыл бұрын
Have both and easy is definitely easier. But the best is I can hit bulls eyes with the EZ and can not with the 2.0. I have traced it back to harder trigger pull which causes gun to move when aiming. I smoothed out an internal “hammer” with 600 grit and that helped.

I own both, other than I have the 2.0 on the sub compact. I'm 65, been shooting for over 50 years, and the recoil spring on the small 9 is getting too hard for me to rack. That was my EDC, until the EZ came out. I now carry the EZ EDC, and its carried appendix. Love how it shoots, and I have no problem carrying it appendix all day long. I've put over 1000 rds at the range with it, and recoil is negligible. Thanks for showing me the major difference in spring tension and racking the pistol. Great video!

Pure beginner here. I shot the Glock 45 & 19 and 9mm EZ/M&P 2.0 back to back last week. After 300+ rounds, guess which one I liked best. The EZ was just too beginner friendly, really EZ to grip, shoot, reload, manage recoil and even field strip. The Glock on the other hand felt way better build and at 25 feet, my beginner level shot grouping was closer. Maybe the EZ wasn’t sighted well. The only downside was the low round mag capacity. Maybe an extended mag is in the works.

Jerry miculek said " not everyone is a navy seal." We don 't need military grade pistols though nowadays many civilians are behaving like militarymen. In reality what we are going to encounter are not terrorists or drugdealers or armsdealers but bad guys try to break in to our houses taking our belongings or street robbers ,thugs or gangster. We don' t expect any trouble but be well prepared for the unexpected. Having a right gun in hand when needed is better than having none. No need to worry too much about capacity. Look at those who carry 1911s or revolvers for EDC, capacity is not their problem at all.

Why does it seem like internal hammers are becoming popular recently, especially in value guns? I thought a major point of striker fire was that it was cheaper. Also, why were hammer guns always taller, if they can squeeze them into a package this small now? And on a different note, seems silly to give a mechanically unrelated model almost the same name.

I'm trying to figure out how the gun will not beat itself to death during operation if the recoil spring is weaker that means the slide is slamming into the frame harder and also means there is less Force pushing the slide forward to strip a new round off and go into battery which could cause failure to feed malfunctions
@craigthompson455

The slide is much lighter since it doesn’t have the striker mechanism. Less weight moving back in recoil equals the smaller spring.
@propdoctor21564
@propdoctor21564 3 жыл бұрын
@@craigthompson455 actually a lighter weight slide requires a stiffer recoil spring if you are talking two guns with the same cartridge because the lighter weight slide is pushed rearward easier than the heavier one.. Same reason a small Ruger LCP or something similar has such a stiff recoil spring even though it's only a 380 is because the slide is so light

No, unfortunately not. The 9mm shield EZ doesn’t even have extended mags or many alt mags out. I’ve been looking EVERYWHERE. Might take some time.

Would the EZ mag fit in the original ? Like if I got a 12 rd mag that says it’s for the original would it fit in the EZ?

This video did not need to be nearly 15 minutes long - 'seemed to be stretched out longer than necessary for such a simple topic (for a greater youtube payout?). And why compare the overall heights of the two guns, complementing the EZ's fuller grip, without mentioning that the standard Shield also comes with a longer 8-round mag for a full grip? I lost patience and stopped the video at 9 minutes.
