Cool review...the ez features may be marketed to beginners, but this is a capable gun for anyone. I drive a car with power steering...but it’s not a beginner feature. It’s an evolution of design in my opinion. Way to go S&W! Purchased this a while back and have had no issues with it.

I'm a 51 year old woman and I bought this gun a week ago (this is my first hand gun) and I like it. It has made me more comfortable around guns and I signed up for a series of trainings to make me a trained and responsible gun owner. In all honesty, what makes this a beginner gun? I bought this as a personal defense weapon and I keep hearing people calling it a beginner. They both shoot 9mm rounds and quite capable of getting the job done. I'm not using it for competition or in a tactile situation. To me a beginner would be a .22.
@BuzzzdLightyear5 жыл бұрын
When something is referred to as a beginner gun it just means that it would be a good choice for someone who is new to firearms and can be considered a "do it all" gun. Typically that means it's a lower cost of entry/ownership, easy to use (recoil, manual of arms), extra safety features, reliable, and in a certain size range that's normally compact to full-size. Personally I think .22s can definitely be considered good for beginners in terms of target or casual use, but definitely not for reliability or defense. You're not going to see sub-compacts, large frame handguns, or certain calibers being called "beginner" guns.
@MBryant16855 жыл бұрын
@@BuzzzdLightyear I know a .22 isn't a preferred choice for home defense but I still wouldn't want to get shot by one. Especially if someone has good enough shot placement. It's better than not having a gun.

It’s being marketed as a gun for people who have weak hands, which describes my arthritic hands. I take no offense to that description, and I think this is a great gun to carry, every day. Small and powerful enough.
@Magik13694 жыл бұрын
The suggestion that this is a beginner's gun or a lady's gun is absurd. It's equipped just like any other 9MM semi-auto. Even more so. Actually the easy rack is excellent and the 4.7 lb. trigger is smooth and crisp. I've put several hundred rounds through mine with no jams and the sites are dead nuts on right out of the box. There is really no difference between this and my M&P Compact 9mm...except the EZ is easy to rack...even with just 2 fingers. it's a great firearm for people in their 50's or older who suffer from arthritis and carpal tunnel, which is as common among auto mechanics as it is office workers. Nothing wrong with making firearms for everybody that are easy to use. Anyone would enjoy this firearm but yes it does meet the needs of specific market segments also.
@thuss51624 жыл бұрын
I believe the grip safety being automatic you dont have to think about it but its always working is the reason for the beginers gun moniker. The safety it provides is almost goof proof. But i do agree it is a great everyday carry for anyone!

Purchased my wife a S&W 380 EZ performance center model this year. She's a beginner shooter and the EZ line really does fit her nicely. She's confident in her handling and shooting and manual of arms with the pistol. There are people that are intimidated when it comes to manipulating semi-auto pistols and the EZ line really makes it easy to introduce new shooters to the sport. The grips safety keeps the hammer in place and will not be able to fire even by accident unless depressed. If anyone has put 1500 rounds through this weapon I’d love to hear opinions on that.

The easy racking wasn't really a draw for me but on my second time shooting I shot this gun very well compared to a couple others (Sig365, Sprinfield XD Mod2 & Hellcat). Not to mention the sites on the Performance version are really good and easy for me as a novice to pick-up compared to the white sites. I did shoot a Glock 43x and I actually shot that very well too, but I noticed as I got hot and my hands got sweaty the 43x was difficult to control. Overall the EZ 9mm was just a better value for me.

I bought this as a first gun yesterday, at age 55. I couldn't pull a slide even when I was 25. This is the only gun I have ever handled easily and felt safe & confident with it. I actually learned more about guns because I could sit and manipulate this one without struggling. Women have much softer skin on their hands and the textures on it don't tear your hands up. I'm able to pull the slide in a snap - which was a non existent thing for me. (My husband would have to leave me with a weapon already chambered for me to be able to use it). The weight and difficulty of manipulating mechanisms has always been a non starter for me. With the EZ I was able to load, unload, reload, and secure, repeatedly, until I was competent working it within hours. I wouldn't even bother shooting before because the guns felt big awkward and heavy and hard to control. I'm heading to the range with it Monday to fire it for the first time.

The reason is that with hand Arthritis and hand weakness problems it is very hard to grip the gun and depress the grip safety tight enough to have the gun fire. I had that problem with the S&W .380 EZ. Great review and video!!!

Not at all new to firearms, I've juggled between many EDC's and my M&P 9 EZ is hands down my favorite firearm for carry. No pun intended but it's an incredibly easy firearm to live with.

The Shield EZ is closer in size to the M&P 9c with a longer grip but in single stack vs double

I simply got this over the regular 2.0 because the grip is way easier on the skin while carrying. The slide is just a bonus and makes it a breeze at the range.

Point of contention, nothing! I *love* grip safeties.. Not a new shooter by any means, but this gun feels so good to me, it's going to be my CC..

My first beginner gun was a Smith and Wesson 642 38 S+P revolver and it was hard as hell to learn as a novice to shoot my revolver bc the short grip was 😫👎🏾 on my hands, but I got the hang of it and now I’m moving on to the EZ9mm just ordered mine.

I ended up purchasing the EZ 380 and the EZ 9mm as my hands have gotten worse. This way I can still have a CCW and home defense guns. Either will allow me some time to get to a long gun if needed. I can carry it at home and out of the house. I do carry in my home at all times.

Could this be the competition to the Taurus G3? Arthiritis has my hand hurting & I was thinking about a soft shooting/operating pistol in 9mm. I can handle my g26. My ruger ec9 hurts me...& I'm only getting older just like everyone else😳

The original shield also comes standard with an 8 round magazine...so you need to use the 8 round for grip comparisons.

This is really a good gun. I’ve got the original v1 shield as well as the m&p v2 ez. Tactically the ez is a bit better with the decrease in slide weight and the ease in pulling the slide back. In a situation where you might have wet hands or damage to your off hand this reduced pull would be a huge benefit. The grip safety is not a issue. The magazine is quite a bit faster to reload as well. Being able to draw the spring down as I’m adding rounds takes half the time and let’s me reload all day without the old thumb getting sore.

After 30 plus years of playing bass guitar I started to get some nerve damage and can no longer play. I was glad to see this gun come out because it affects my grip strength

Could we please stop using the words beginner, entry level, for the weak , for females, for old people! Does this gun not have the same Leathality that any other 9 mm’s have?There are a growing number of states that only allow a capacity of 10 rounds!

joe pizza It helps for folk like me, senior, disabled, female when searching the internet to find videos like this. That’s how I found this one. I typed in those search words for a firearm.

I agree. And I would never buy a gun with a grip safety. Too many opportunities in combat situations to make a mistake.

I have a both a Shield Plus and a Shield EZ 9 mm. I LOVE them both. I do conceal carry the Shield Plus because it's more compact and smaller than the EZ and I'm only 4'9" and weigh 95 lbs. The EZ starts to get heavy after going up and down the ladder, painting all day. Smith and Wesson needs to bring out a gun that would be like. Shield Plus EZ in 9mm. It would be the best of both worlds. Have the mag capacity 10+1 and 13+1. The EZ slide and EZ loading but have the compactness of the Shield Plus. That would be a PERFECT gun for me. Lol

Ordered one up last night. I've been looking at getting one for my wife for awhile and finally found a deal on one that was just tempting enough to pull the trigger. So to speak. I have several other pistols and am fairly experienced, but I am really looking forward to checking this one out. I'm sure it will be a pretty hilarious comparison between my big, heavy, super stiff springed 1911 and this light little compact EZ. I'm also really curious how it'll stack up against the G19.

Real question... if the EZ features really make it easier to rack, load, etc., without any downside... why not make it standard to all S&W pistols?
@jubjub9054 жыл бұрын
nsj2kx part of that factor requires making it hammer fired with the grip safety
@nsj2kx4 жыл бұрын
jubjub f what does hammer fired and grip safety have to do with easier racking and loading?
@echosierra99904 жыл бұрын
The hammer is pre cocked, making it easier to pull the slide back. Think back to the pre striker fired days, the way to rack your slide easier was to cock the hammer.

Doesn’t it also create slightly more “real estate”? Not much, though...Check out the 2.0 vs 2.0 EZ...which he addressed at the start of this video...😊

I was looking at this and the walther pps. I liked both of them. They both had stellar reputations. After seeing the cheap cardboard box of the smith and the hard plastic box of the walther, that sealed it for me. I know that’s very shallow, but I don’t regret it.

@@StrongArmEntertainment it was very easy. I don’t break it down past slide barrel and spring. I’ve only had it a year and have not even put 500 rounds through it yet though.
