Dear Solomon, You have all the freedom to speak wharever looks good to you. But when you refer catholic church, please talk to any Authorised person from church and then share your comments. My understanding is that Jesus wanted to empower the mankind and live with them as a friend. Catholicism embrace that. Unfortunately many preachers keep him separate. More than authority, this passage is talking about acceptance. You rightly said that this passage is mission oriented passage. Jesus said if the disciples forgave and accept the gentiles and Jews (who killed Jesus), they will be forgiven by God be hearing the gospel, which leads them to believe in Christ. If the disciples didn't forgive and accept the gentiles and Jews they will might not share the gospel, that will lead them not to put trust in Christ, since they didn't hear about Gospel. In that, if the disciples forgive them, they will be forgiven, if they didn't, they won't be forgiven.
