Mini dachshund puppy tries dog shoes for the first time ever

The ice and road salt used throughout the winter here in Canada can severely damage dogs' paw pads, so we're getting Mac comfortable with wearing dog booties for longer winter walks. Our local pet shop recommended we try these rubber ones first. If anyone has any recommendations, we'd love to hear them!

It's ok until it gets really cold. Then, I recommend Muttluks. Pawz are ok if you try to double them with something else underneath but they don't last long and get damaged fast. Really, there is not much on the market when it comes to winter dog boots especially for a city like Montreal. If you are handy you can try to make own boots. Another boot that I found worked ok for my dog is cheap silicone ones from Dollarama. They are thicker and therefore warmer than Pawz and last longer. A way to make them even more warm is to get a bigger size and put dog socks on first. Another reason I liked those silicone ones is because they stayed on more easily than any other boot. Mac has the sweetest face!!! When he was looking the toys - well, I couldn't have resisted that face!! It is still so green in Canada. I figured you'd have had snow by now. Mom, I went and took a peek at Etsy. I searched under dog boots. They have it all. They have small sizes that would fit Mac better. They had ones that are water resistant and lined with fur to keep his paws nice and warm! Good luck. Let me know what you think.

OMG how funny but understandable that Mac needs to protect his paws from the winter elements. I think the rubber boots would keep his paws dry but are they warm enough to keep his paws warm. Does it have a fur lining in them? My suggestion would be to go on Etsy. People think of stuff to make for everything and anything and I bet it has all kinds of dog boots. Hope this helps. I don't know how you got them on him. Our beagle hates us messing with her feet. It is a battle to wipe them after coming in from outside. (and don't even start about tooth brushing!)

Yeah, we went with a bigger size, so they were easier to put on him. We clip his nails at home, so we intentionally hold and massage his paws a lot to get him used to us touching them (:
