When you read in the dark, your pupil is wider, a wider pupil is less efficient at focussing light, that’s why when you squint everything appears sharper, in the dark the depth of focus is much shallower, since our eyes relax when looking at the distance but pull to fatten the lens to see near objects, they have to pull harder in dim lighting, that’s why reading in the dark causes myopia
