I've got thousands of hours on a bandsaw and never seen teeth embedded like that lmao. I've had parts spin, I've knocked off teeth but this is *chefs kiss

had it happen to me on round. as soon as the piece spins the blade is done. if it's a rough cut then you can use an abrasive cuttoff blade on an angle grinder all around to get past the teeth. then cut on the bandsaw with a new blade. seems your blades cost more up in alaska. mine are about 55 bucks for my doall saw but i buy 15 at a time. lasts me about a year.

@@ronblack7870 hack and slash it baby, You can also use a hatchet...
Something this size I would just part it off in the machine

Another trick I used a lot was index cards. One 2 or 3 layers between the movable jaw and the part. The paper compresses and provides more clamping area. Have also used a copper shim, but the paper is cheaper and it works.

You are only holding the round stock on two tangent points. Sometimes you can get away with that on small diameters, but rarely on large diameters because the contact is still only between two points. You need to put a v block in between one of your vise jaws and the stock. Taught my students to do that on day one because I had no budget for hundreds of blades. The stock virtually has no chance to roll with three contact points.

One thing my great uncle did that I thought was wood smart was ... grab a chunk of pine, it can be messy process, and and make two [( )] like that and a wood cylinder that fits the cylinder snugly, and then sending it thru the saw. He used that when cutting thin walled brass or copper. Yes its over kill but he said sometimes that is what it took....

It's always overkill until it prevents a blade crash and possibly a scrapped part 😉

This is what I've always used, wood in various ways taking advantage of the fact it compresses so I can get more clamping surface.

When I first got my bandsaw in my home shop I cut some thin stainless sheet. Everything was going well. Small chips coming off the sheet as I went. Then it stopped all forward progress. Turned out the small chips were the teeth of the blade. Admittedly it wasn’t a top quality blade but I’m now aware of the 3 teeth or more in the cut rule……

Make a pair of 5" 120* v blocks and keep em handy for clamping round things.

Any way to clamp a dog leg or a c-clamp to the piece to prevent it from rotating?

You could also try parting it off in the machine.

putting something of equal size at the other end of the vise sometimes creates other problems.Doesnt always work.Workpiece being sawed still screws up.

You'll reduce racking still. If the angle is the opposite, I think it's better to grab closer to the blade.

Another one of those - "Couldn't do it if you tried" moments... Could the inbedded teeth be heated (and softened) individually, then the part be put back on the saw to finish the cut?
@ForfeMac4 ай бұрын
Would take way more time than just chucking it up in the lathe with a carbide bit and cutting through them.

I dont have an unlimited budget in my shop for saw blades either. When i have an oops momenet. I take the blade to the grinder dress off the damaged teeth and go again. If you don't a damaged tooth will likely break in the next cut and take a few more with it.

thank you John, I have had so many blades trashed by people who know how to use a band saw..... and they get pissy when they are told they do not, and try and say the blade was already bad....... they usually have no idea just how much a blade cost either....... best thing for me is to not let anyone use my saw........ have a wonderful day my friend, Paul in Florida.
