I’m Dutch. Many of my conservative countrymen - like former intelligence man Dick Schoof and Geert Wilders - support Israel and want to protect Jews. Jonathan Pollard is totally right. And I can attest to this personally. I’ve defended Israel and Jews my entire grown up life. And I’ve received a lot of backlash for it. From ‘decent’ and ‘sophisticated’ Dutch people. Not even Muslims. They belong to a different category. Not even suited for debates. Some mocked me as being ‘part of Mossad.’ Others aggressively asked if I was Jewish. Because to them that would be the only explanation for my thoughts and views. Journalism teachers went berserk because I had the audacity to interview Mordechai Kedar and Derek Harvey (who is an American conservative former colonel and army intelligence official). Another one scolded me because I wrote - as is normal in our Dutch grammar - Jews with a capital J. Because the context was ethnic - not religious. Religious words in Dutch are all without a capital. But ethnic references always start with a capital. This man - who was close to 60 - screamed to me ‘there is no such thing as JUDEA, so don’t use the capital J.’ I was shocked. And this man was a true leftist. A self-proclaimed anti-racist. This is just a small sample of the many antisemites who I had to face in my life. Most Muslims, many Catholics, most socialists, many leftists (including left-liberals) and a lot of Dutch celebrities are fiercely against Israel. And among those, a lot hate Jews. Yet when I walked the streets of Budapest in July 2016, I felt more secure than ever before. The streets were clean. The people polite. No groups of thugs to be seen. Hardly any Muslim. And the best: the Chabad synagogue had only one armed policeman guarding the square. That was all it took. Zero threats. Just a really peaceful scenery. I also visited the Jewish community center of Malmö in January 2014, where I spoke to rabbi Kesselman. It was fortified. Because of… The Swedes who are not called Bjorn, Anders or Ingvar. Wink wink.

Wow ! Excellent comment ! I learned a lot. I guess the leftists everywhere are hateful. I think it’s because so many Muslims came to the west, and they push the antisemitism. Their religion forces them to do so. I worked with many Muslims in the USA. And without exception, they always tried to cause trouble for me. I was amazed at how talented they were at this.

Jonathan is right. My story is a good example. I came to Israel from the USSR in 1990. As a civil engineer and former Ukrainian national champion in higher mathematics, I quickly found work in engineering and achieved professional success. However, the housing crisis in Israel, which no government has been able to solve, forced me to move to Canada. 400,000 Israelis did the same in the 1990s. This is a disgrace to Israel's inefficiency.

@@bluecoffee8414 Because from the very beginning of the establishment of Israel, a small group of businessmen have taken over the real estate business. They use their connections to change laws in their favor and win tenders. They use their influence to prevent others from entering the real estate market and offering their services. There is no competition in this market, this is a classic cartel according to economics books. And so it is also in other branches of the economy in Israel. There is a small group that controls the life of the country, sucks from the people all the money they earn and basically turned the residents of Israel into modern slaves. Courts in Israel also belong to the same group and basically do everything to protect their interests.

Agree that Israel should send squads to EU and don't understand why they haven't. Apparently mossad warned the people travelling to Holland there would be trouble; why did protectors not accompany the soccer fans? And today in Germany the isl amo Nazis attacked an under 17 soccer game with makkabi (sic) Jewish players. The Nazis have planned to attack Jews in Paris on Thursday. A Druze soccer fan protected the Jews, why not the Israeli gov to send guards? Lastly, I have been planning aliyah for about 5 years, I have come to conclusion I will just go to Israel and apply for aliyah while I'm there. The ridiculous hoops we Jews have to go through compared to non Jews is ridiculous.

I believe that it is no accident or coincidence that there are so many terrorists in Rotterdam and other European strategic sites. I remember that a day before I left Germany in 1979 some terrorists had set off a bomb in an American housing area. I actually tried to report another situation when such a person was questioning me about some military things in 78; but nobody was interested. I was naive at that time, and did not pursue it.

To the comment readers, it is good to know that the state of Israel(Medinat Israel) a government under the rule of mixed multitudes/seculars,by seculars I mean those who followed foreign ideas and beliefs and worship dollar(it is also known as avoda zara in the Torah) is inside Israel and they work like a company(it is a Khevrah).The land of Israel is very big, but the state of Israel is very small.

What advice do you have for anyone who wants to make aliyah to Israel?

First of all, take into account that you are coming to a country where economically you will not be able to succeed much. Do your homework, come here alone for a period of six months or a year and try to survive without spending savings. And talk here with ordinary people, especially with those who moved here themselves. Ask them how they managed and what they did before coming to Israel. You will be surprised to find many doctors and engineers working in low class jobs.

So it’s not necessarily a command to grow a beard, but many Orthodox Jews just go with the full, untrimmed beard to be sure to obey that command. Also, because if you’re going to keep half of it, then you might as well keep all of it.

Dear Jonathan, You are mistaken about the percentage of Jewish population murdered in European countries. In Holland it was about 73% In many countries it was much higher Most significantly in Poland where the biggest Jewish population lived about *89%* were murdered. Perhaps Lithuania was the worst, estimates range from 93% to 97% However in Holland Nazis did not kill the Dutch people who helped Jews. They did kill the righteous gentiles in Poland, Ukraine and other East-Central European countries. So the number of surviving Dutch Jews should have been much higher.
