I'm just really confused as to why so many people love Fury Road. Yeah the action was pretty cool, but I'd say there was literally only 2 or 3 minutes of actual character development. That made the action scenes extremely boring and repetitive for me since I didn't really get to know the characters

I can't believe I'm saying this but: I fully agree with Duralde here. Incredible, incredible movie with some of the most absurdly outstanding action set-pieces in cinematic history. Everything in this movie just clicked for me. The action, cinematography, plot, characters, music, acting, etc. Everything was top notch. This movie blew my mind. I cannot imagine a film that can beat Fury Road this year (yes not even the almighty Star Wars, but I know you'll still be asking about that one). Maybe The Hateful Eight and the Revenant, or maybe Spectre? Though I wouldn't count on it. Maybe we should just crown Fury Road "Movie of the year" and be done with it.

William XIV Greenleaf We are pretty like minded you and I. I'll say this: it is the best, pure action film since The Matrix, maybe even before that. Return of the King is my favorite movie of all time (though I did not see it in theaters. I was about five when that was released so...yeah). There are movies since then that have been superior to Max in my opinion, some may even be classified as action movies. But to me, those movies (basically The Dark Knight and Inception) are better movies, but not better *action* movies. Mad Max was fucking incredible. I cannot wait to see it again, and again after that.

I hate when people say that Max wasnt the main character in Mad Max, because the movie wouldnt even happen without him in it. The story is centered around him, and the other characters are only successful because of him. It's called "Mad Max", and his name is the first one to appear and he narrates the story.

While Max is again thrown into yet another conflict he doesn't want to be part of... He is pivotal in the resolution of Furiosa's story. He basically says to her: (drawing from his own experience) "You cannot keep running from your past or your troubles, so go home and find the answers within you, make a difference where you can." I thought that was powerful, and gave the whole last sequence a lot more weight, at least to me. Great film.

"who doesn't want well written female characters?" I think the fact we get so few of them speaks for itself. The backstory for this movie comes a lot from the details put into the setpieces and vehicles...the props tell their own story. Probably why films like LOTR are timeless, the care that is put into figuring out every little physical detail for the setpieces really shows on screen. Sure the story is a little simplistic, but I think the reason this movie stands out from the rest is because the vehicles you see on screen are real vehicles that are really driving across the desert, the explosions are real explosions and the stunts are crazy. this movie is beautifully insane and is everything a mad max film should be!

***** Matt--- (IN RESPONSE TO YOUR "THIS WAS A FURIOSA MOVIE") .... before anyone says that Max didn't have a CHARACTER ARC, you have to know, that a main protagonist in a story DOES NOT have to have one - as long as another character does. In this case, Furiosa carried the protagonist ARC. This is not the first time it has been used in films. In Classic James Bond movies, James Bond is the same person he was in the beginning and by the end of a story, but another character would be the one that LEARNED or CHANGED by the end. Max contributed to decisions that took the plot to new directions and ultimately benefited Furiosa as a person by the end. That was his PURPOSE in the story. Great film.

She wasn't hiis daughter because she calls him Max. There is an unexplained backstory there, but it's not a backstory on his family's death. And it's suppose to be a sequel, but it doesn't really matter. Miller also wanted it to be open to interpretation on when this story is to take place. So who really cares when it take place. In the Mad Max: Fury Road comic books, they do explain the backstory. Plus it explains how Max got his car back.

They never said that the girl in Max's guilt-flash-back is his daughter. It's just someone he failed to save. They really don't tell you much, and it's on purpose. To paraphrase playwright Harold Pinter, you don't NEED to know everything about a character to be invested in them. As Pinter put it, all you need to know sometimes is "This is what they said. This is what they did," and I would add, "This is what they felt." Mad Max: Fury Road does this in spades.

George Miller's brilliant script - this script was a STORY BOARD that George and his production artists worked on for a DECADE! Ten years of creating scenes into better & better action sequences. PLUS - There are two stories going on at once. 1.) The action film , and 2.) Max's spiritual inner journey from emotional loner to regaining his ability to connect to other people and finally move to help them. The best action film yet created. The HOT-ROD-APOCOLYSPE is a great genre created by George Miller.

It is a superb film, story, characters, production, cinematography, SFX, Music and stunts into a glorious post apocalyptic masterpiece. It's not perfect, but very close to be. George Miller created the template for the Post Apocalyptic film genre and creates a film that stands up to the entire Mad Max Trilogy perhaps even higher. It was entertaining, compelling and glorious absurd from start to finish, it committed the world that Miller constructed so superbly and succeeded beyond expectations. I highly recommend it to anyone.

Loved the film but I do wonder how it is that there is now a whole generation who know next to nothing of the world before the collapse. If it happened when Max was in his mid/late twenties and now it's maybe ten or fifteen years later wouldn't some of the older kids remember more of the old world?

I have a major issue with this film. While I can appreciate the fine tradecraft here, there is too much action. It's basically one long action scene that almost never lets up. We never have time to learn about or care about the characters. Also, in a world that is gas-starved, they really drive around with a huge truck with speakers and guitars and drums on it while they fight? They should have shot that idea down, as it doesn't fit.

Interesting review. I liked it even though it did not have much dialog.

I think this was a sold film. It's gorgeously filmed and absolutely exhilarating, but it was missing a spark. There's no character development, and I, being a person who reads into everything, found that a little frustrating. However, it has a flame shooting electric guitar in the arms of a masked puppet-man. Should I really be looking for ties like that? The film is awesome, plain and simple, and it reaffirmed my love for a good action flick. 3.5/5.
