I think Madison’s main issue right now is her brand tied to always being Pretty. Conventionally pretty. She’ll sometimes lean into an aesthetic like the futuristic vibes of Life Support or the dreamy vintage doll look for that tour but it’s only a surface level. I think a great example of this is her hair, she never experiments with it and always has it in 4 styles and roughly similar colors. Had she donned a blonde wig for the Life Support tour it would’ve made such a difference, or had she darkened her hair jet black or a cool toned dark brown. Even her makeup, almost always the same. Notice how even when she does a theme like, it’s still the same “Pretty” vibe. “Pretty alien, pretty horror movie character, pretty doll, pretty robot” I think she has the same issue Sydney Sweeney is having in the movie world, where they’re trying to show the world their range and authenticity but stilly relying on their body and perceived attraction. There’s a video detailing Sydney’s current career choices and compares it to Margot Robbie’s career which had followed a similar trajectory until she broke out of it with I Tonya. Basically, what Madison needs is: to play a character. Like you said, the siren, or the femme fatale. For a whole album cycle. Not a super strict or defined aesthetic (although it always helps) but an underlying theme. If she wants to do girly dolly coquette themed, then make it a lover girl album and tie it all in. If she gets deep and personal, dial down the outfits and bring out the casual street wear for promo and mv’s and keep it simple . She also really needs a hit songs. Not a viral tik tok presence that’s quickly forgotten. Like she needs a mainstream song. Not just for the money but also for the credibility in the industry which’ll give her more freedoms. I also secretly think Madison’s lukewarm success has been a part in her creative stump bc she isn’t getting pushed or back as much as she could be. Once she’s able to “prove” her worth I think it’ll be different and she’ll get more people signed on to her vision as an artist and that can lead to her becoming more confident in her work and making more high quality work so that the success won’t really matter bc it’ll be critically acclaimed. Idk if it’s making sense but it’s like a process
@kali70555 ай бұрын
I agree with all that you said 👏🏼 For the hair part I‘d like to add that she did switch to jet black recently in time for her darker edm-pop song Make you Mine. And she has had blonde or bronze brown hair, tried out styles with cute pig tails, worn the Ariana ponytail, worn braids, buns etc. I wonder what she could do to have iconic hair like Sabrina, Ariana, Melanie Martinez, Chapell, Ice Spice etc., but I have a hard time finding ideas, as the „market“ for that is already pretty saturated. She would have to go really crazy/out of the box, which doesn‘t seem like her thing. Maybe she should stick to her usual hair and focus more on storytelling through fashion and having a consistent aesthetic.

I feel like Lana Del Rey gets away with also being all over the place with her fashion because her music speaks for itself. Edit: Dark feminine/siren is perfect!
@jaiweenie5 ай бұрын
I think you have a point but I think Lana's style and branding was actually pretty consistent at the beginning of her career, with born to die. It was either that old Hollywood, Priscilla Presley vintage style or the more sugarbaby, "trailer park" aesthetic, but always with the cigarettes and racy lyrics, and always very Americana. In this case, her branding was really more in the topics of her songs, but I think there were some visual aspects there too, like veils, big hair, smoke (from her cigarettes), and 50s style swimsuits. This branding was strong enough during her first album that yeah since then she's basically been able to do whatever the hell she wants and still be Lana, but I wouldn't say she's always been all over the place.

🤦♂️ um expect no the music is not post haedcore, it's not goth either. It's symphonic rock. Dressing the way she does is not away to say what the music is. When it comes to rock, metal, goth, alt, punk, and emo. That's just not how it works. Those genres are not about the fashion they are about the music.
@evacody12495 ай бұрын
The whole point of those genres is that they sell based on the music, not color or fashion. Take Sabrina Carpenter and put her in a mediocre metalcore band, and no matter what her fashion style is, no one will care. Much of rock, metal, goth, punk, is taking ideas from jazz, folk, blues, and symphonic music. Where vocals are not always the key point to bring everything together.

I hope for Madison that she finds her iconic style and that people see and love her for who she really is as much as we do.

I mean the way you described her aesthetic... I would just go straight from the dark, horror-esque, misfit, hopeless romantic siren to the sensual, seductive but kinda out-for-herself-only mob wife. This is literally a perfect evolution and gives so much storyline potential, she would be such a character if she only listened to you 😉

to add to what you said about simple not being bad as a brand for a singer, I think renee rapp is a brilliant example. her stage outfits aren't flashy or particularly costumey, but they are quintessentially her and cohesive. also, would love to see you talk about tyla (who I believe is another example of someone with cohesive branding and great marketing like sabrina) if you're going to make this like a series
@j110-z6p3 ай бұрын
0:16 she would do so amazing with the renaissance look with siren voice, her voice would separate her from other pop artists and the renaissance look would separate her from the “iphone face” allegations. it might put a slight hinderance on the way boys view her, which is almost half a portions of her instagram followers, but she would gain the signature style. madison could even wear cheetah print, which could be her signature fashion print because it mixes with her looks and voice so well.

you're totally feeding my madison beer obsession right now! i'm a huge fan of her work and am invested in her success but i definitely understand many of the points in your video! i think what may be unique to madison beer can be seen through how her fans dress. specifically looking at pictures that fans took at her spinnin' tour or even looking up spinnin' tour outfits on pinterest there's a very clear through-line of what her fans think of her aesthetically. it's very much that mix of street style and hyper-feminine, but the defining feature definitely is that ribbon bow in everyone's hair. brittany broski even said on her podcast that the last show in LA was the "pretty girl convention" there's definitely something there that madison has created. thank you for the video!

It's pointed out right at the start the failure of her branding and styling: she follows trends. Going from IG baddie to coquette feminine. But then she doesn't commit to the type of makeup that the coquette look does, she sticks to her usual IG/Tiktok makeup. She experiments with trends (Taylor and Ariana and Olivia and Billie all do this too) but she never fully commits to the whole bit when trying out the different styles (for example, when Taylor went into her reputation era, her styling was a mess but I respected that she tried the whole thing out properly from the bleached hair and brows to the terrible 2006 shoes). It feels like even when Madison is experimenting, she is still too afraid to be anything less than what is trendy-pretty and ironically, despite all their style experimentations, Taylor/Ariana/Olivia/Billie have such strong visual identities and brands anyway. Another thing is that Tyla is so much of a newer artist compared to Madison Beer and I've only really seen two music videos but when I see outfits, I can say 'oh that's a Tyla outfit'. I think Madison definitely needs to take a leaf out Chappell and Sabrina's current rise and realise she has to define her visual look based on what she truly likes and wants. A lot of people complain about Sabrina's look saying it's 'sexy baby' and 'infantilising' and they hate her makeup and say it ages her, but if she likes what she likes, she should stick to it, which she does! Her rebrand with the big hair and full glam makeup look is part of what made Sabrina pop off in the last year.

Maybe she could follow the stories of these three characters you mentioned, seductive madison, lover madison and alien madison, keep a story for each of them and create a narrative, she's all of them, and once she wants to come up with another version that she found as she grew up, she can kill them or hide them in a box (maybe not a box, something similar, even sending them to another galaxy), she even can make them into a whole, the secretary feels odd

She likes the coquette aesthetic she could also lean in to that more with brands like mirror Palais or wear more unique vintage pieces on stage

Madison does not take risks and that greatly hinders her ability to stand out. I vividly remeber her appeanrce on Celebrity Drag Race when she was getting put in full drag to go out and perform. She was given the entire drag makeover with makeup, hair and outfit. Yet when Mads came out on the runway her drag makeup was completely gone. Instead she had removed it and changed back to her usual full glam beat. That moment was when I really realized just HOW much Madison cares about always looking "Perfect". I feel like she has this fear of fully committing herself to doing something outside her comfort zone. Scared to look not perfect. Fear of judgment for doing something different even though that's whats needed in order to stand out. But I really do feel for her though and understand her. As someone who is also self conscious and sensitive to negative feedback likes Mads I'm sure it must be a huge inner battle to allow yourself to be seen in an unperfect/different way. I just really wish she could push herself in 2025 to branch out more. Even baby steps. Because once she does I just know these new doors will fly open for her and help so much with boosting her confidence and comfortability into taking more risks with her career! All her fans can see her potential, we just need her to see it now too

Yeah I was so confused why the branding for this tour was what it should’ve been for last tour I had a blast at both I think the set dressing was better on this tour but the outfits seemed a little basic sadly. the whole crowd had bows and either emulated her big pants and tiny tops or her reckless style even the fans were more consistent to a singular vibe

the crowd being consistent is actually something i didn't think about! my dad came with me to see her on the spinnin tour and i remember the next day he asked me why madison didn't wear a bow despite everyone else in the crowd wearing one which i took as a lighthearted joke but it does make sense with how her branding is all over the place. i also agree that the branding for each tour should've been swapped!

As someone whose style falls into a lot of different aesthetics, sometimes the seemingly having more than one identity IS the identity. It's refreshing to see somebody in pop who doesn't subscribe to the song and dance demanded of female pop stars in the modern day. So although it might not be the best in terms of marketing herself, it makes sense in terms of authenticity. It's a testament to how much control she has over her own creative outlet and that is so, so empowering to see!!
@thecavalieryouth5 ай бұрын
I think that would work but there's no through-line, nothing that, regardless of the style change, would still make her recognisably Madison. Taylor Swift was used as an example for how she's switched up her look with every album, but there's something undeniably Taylor about it still. Same with Ariana Grande. She's done the baby doll look (Sweetener comes to mind for me), she's done 60s mod/glam (imo, "positions" was close to that), she's done hiphop influenced diva ("thank u next"), she's done sweet & wholesome (her first 2 albums). But every one of those looks was very specifically Ariana. That ponytail was still front & centre, and she still had a kept a lot of similar silhouettes that still ended up looking new for each album cycle. Even Rihanna. She's been an island girl, she's had an edgy, harder, more rock-influenced look, she's done avant-garde style/high fashion icon - but they still all made sense for Rihanna.

I think she was moving towards the hyperfeminine vintage inspired doll vibes towards the end of the Life Support tour but Sabrina kind of beat her to the punch and took over that lane. But tbh I think she really excels with the futuristic Yeezy vibes of beige and earth tones, mixed with that femme fatale Megan Fox bombshell, like the cover of Life Support. The 60s dolly corset ribbons really doesn’t suite her. I also think she should lean towards the avant garde side of fashion like off white, Rick Owen’s, Loewe etc.
