@@rapidprimus what I mean is that her early hits, like "Like a Virgin," while being very catchy and made her a star, are not as good (in my opinion) as the songs that came right after that period and for many years afterward. Her Music and style matured quickly and kept changing, as I'm sure you know. That doesn't mean I don't like her earliest hits. I do, but I don't listen to them like I do this song and her other great songs. Just sayin'.

@@rapidprimus I became a fan when she first appeared on the scene. You have your tastes in music and I have mine. My taste in music is right only for me, and that applies to everyone. There is no artist whose every single song is great. None. Yes is my favorite group, ever, but even they have songs that I think suck. Not just mediocre but suck. I love Lady Gaga but there would not be a Lady Gaga with out Msdonna. Even Madonna performances borrowed from people before. The first Pop singer to turn a concert into a Broadway type production was Bette Midler, But She also jokes and does edgy, sexy comedy, sings and dances. And she paid tribute to other performers she admired. (Probably going back too far for most of you. ).

@@rapidprimus well the only thing that's similar between Lady Gaga and Madonna are the type of shows they do.. Lady Gaga is a much better singer and is a trained pianist. . And I love Madonna, but as far as technical singing goes, Lady Gaga is a much Superior singer than Madonna. I do agree though that her shows borrow a lot from Madonna's type of shows, although Madonna was not the first person to do those type of shows either . Everybody follows somebody else that they admire.

@@lamusiclover2264 Well. I guess that depends on taste. I have a couple Lady Gaga songs I like. But for me its all about the music. Shows don't impress me is the music is bad or doesn't speak to me. Singing wise I can't judge because I don't know really how to. In regards to the music Madonna has everything you could ever want, most genres, and songs that I have been listening to for over 20 years since I was a kid and are still amazing now. There's really no comparison between the two. If Lady Gaga is still going strong 40 years from now, we can talk about comparison, but for now. Nope.

@@rapidprimus don't get me wrong, I love Madonna too except for her last album I can't stand , but I've been listening to her since her very first album, so about 40 years. I think she fantastic Kurt I think she's a great songwriter and she does do a variety of types of music, some better than others. Her voice is kind of gone up and down over the years depending on how much work she's done practicing, but I love her. The only thing she needs to not do is act. She did well in Evita but her other movies are pretty horrific . But that's okay, she doesn't have to act she does enough as it is. I've been to every tour of her except maybe one so I'm a huge fan period I just think the Lady Gaga is an extremely talented performer and songwriter as well and I think she'll be around for a long time. She has no trouble admitting that she admires Madonna a lot.

The rhythm, the visuals, the good catholic girl fighting with her “bad” girl persona plot, and a small cameo of a very young Benício Del Toro sitting on the car at the end... it’s simple, but very effective. The song is pure Latin pop perfection! this is one of Madonna’s biggest hits and it’s not difficult to know why. The hate comes from misogynistic men who disguise as "music criticism". If you go into Madonna's career you will find that she is probably the ONLY pop star who is that diverse with her music and message of love and equality. Don't worry, the hate has started since the beginning of her career when she started in the early 80s and had this fearless personality and always owned her sexuality. I'm glad you came into discovering her with an open mind. Next I would say VOGUE, her biggest hit. Then Justify My Love, Erotica, Human Nature. Live to Tell, and definitely Frozen. There's a lot more but those are quite great.

Often decisions, made by old men and d.js older than her or the demographic they think they cater to..anyhow her work is so diverse..she was a trail blazer..not only where women in music and female artists are concerned, but also in style and production and the different musical genres, ideas, concepts she all fused together..many of her later live shows are spectacular examples of this.Glad you are looking at her work..so many great songs and,visuals... If you are staying early..try Live To Tell, Papa Dont Preach,Open Your Heart..all from the same era as La Isla Bonita..all radically different..or change it up and try Take A Bow,Rain ,Vogue,Oh Father,Human Nature,...so many..Frozen is another great song

The best Madonna song imo. Never a fan but I do really like this song. She has a good voice and should have featured it more in her songs.

Nailed it! La Isla Bonita literally translates to the beautiful island. It's about letting the island breeze, sounds, sights, and smells make you fall in love. I recommend her song Crazy For You, to further dive into her catalog. Yes, Madonna has a love song, and it rocked the world in 1985!

Madonna is a brilliant artist. She raised and set the benchmark for female pop/dance music with world music flavourings often. She Wrote most of her own songs, her music always evolved. Her mom owned a restaurant down the street from me in Toronto,Ontario. Ciccones. Love her🤟❤️🇨🇦

You should check out her first hits, LUCKY STAR, BORDERLINE, HOLIDAY, INTO THE GROOVE, LIKE A VIRGIN..... She did push bounderies, and while doing so could be a bit abrasive to people. Plus, I think when someone is very successful for a long period of time some people can turn on them!

She doesn’t have a bad song. People have an irrational hatred of her. A lot of it is ageism from young ppl who love their current pop star and don’t want to admit that they are all just copying Madonna.

From Madonna's "True Blue" album. So much on this album was on point. I once owned the vinyl and unfortunately lost :( I suggest True Blue, the title song of the album, as well. Great choice as usual and thanks for sharing!

I still own mine - with the lyrics to the songs on the paper sleeve. It's been a while, but I still remembered most of the lyrics to this 😁 Edit - just remembered, there was a *huge* poster with that album as well, I had mine on my wall for a while, but it was so big and heavy that the tacks I used to put it up with ended up ripping it.

Madonna has actually had a movie career as well: Desperately Seeking Susan, Dick Tracy, A League of Their Own, Evita, and a few others. I would never classify her as a great actress, but she was good enough. People "hate" on her because she wouldn't conform. She knew there were too many good female singers out there all the time, so she was controversial to keep herself in the spotlight . . . and she succeeded for 3-4 decades. As far as I know, she's still making music, but has kinda faded now that she's in her 60s. But you are right, most of her songs are really good and she changed up her style many times over the years. Keep playing Madonna!

I was a teenager when she hit the music world. I remember liking the singles released from her first album. I had her second, Like A Virgin, and played it relentlessly. #lol Dress You Up and Into the Groove are fun dance songs; and the title track got a lot of flak because it used the word "virgin" & people freaked out without even hearing the lyrics. I especially liked Love Don't Live Here Any More. She constantly re-invented her image, rather like David Bowie. Of her other work, I love Take A Bow, The Power of Goodbye, and Frozen. If you listen to Frozen, you have to watch the official video, it's very creative & beautifully done!

I laugh when people say is underrated. Madonna has sold 335 million records sold worldwide. Only the Beatles, Elvis and Michael Jackson have sold more then Madonna. She has had so many hits especially in the 80’s and 90’s. Madonna is the USA has had 12 no.1 hits and 38 top 10 hits. No one hit wonder here

She was one of the Big 3 of the 80's. In the 60's you had The Beatles and everyone else. In the 80's it was Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Prince - those 3 set the tone for everything because their music and messages were so strong.
