Song came out in 1986. I got pregnant in 1987 at 17 years old. This song was huge for me. Sadly My father did not take it as well. I moved out. Even sadder he died a years later and we never really got past it. Life is short people. Live and love.

Little trivia - the actor in this video, Alex McArthur, has spoken about how this video had an unexpected major effect on his career. He went on to star in 3 very popular "Desperado" western movies. It seemed like he was all over tv during the late 80s and well into the 90s. But I can't remember the last time I've seen him as an actor. Unfortunately, the only time I'm seen him in the last 25 years was an interview he did after his son was murdered in Oroville, California in December 2019. News reports noted that his son was a well-known cannabis grower and the shooting was related to a large drug trafficking organization. How terrible for him.

This isn’t about her pregnancy, she hardly contributed to writing this. The main writer Brian Elliot said he based it on a conversation he overheard between some girls talking outside the studio. Madonna didn’t have her first child for many years after this song was written & released.

@drag0nfly_girl From Newsweek: "Nominally about a teenager who has decided not to have an abortion, it is the kind of unapologetic statement that always causes outrage when evinced by a woman about her own body....Cultural conservatives who otherwise objected to Madonna's overtly sexual public persona praised what appeared to be her anti-abortion stance." Back in the old days (pre 1980s), when a girl was pregnant and unmarried they would say she's "in trouble". There was a lot of stigma about having children out of wedlock.
