this song breaks my heart every time I hear it. Phenominal rendition by one of the best

I absolutely love how Carlos interpreted this song! Carlos dd not play a note-for-note rendition of Maggot Brain, but he captured the sensitivity and emotion that Eddie Hazel and Mike Hampton did, Bravo Carlos Santana!

Chester Thompson I presume killed the keyboard solo, as only he can.

Why does guitar music always degenerate into a competition? I enjoy Jimi, Peter Green, Carlos, Segovia,Django, Page,SRV...If this is not to your taste,OK, Look elsewhere. Not a prob, is it?

everything is nowadays, people just like starting shit, Santana, a great musician, is paying tribute to a great piece of music and a great guitarist, i dont see why there should be any hate, of course no one is going to play it like Eddie, but that is the magic of covers, you get a taste of Eddie mixed with Santana

It's good but does not express the feeling of the depths of despair as the original. Eddie was asked to play the feeling as if his mother just died. That's Maggot Brain. You can feel the anguish in the original.

Ya'll who trip out over the Michael Hampton vs Eddie Hazel comparison need to just quit. Carlos Santana performed wonderfully in New York!!! I do prefer Mike's live version on One Nation Under a Groove the best though.

Then he tries to make up for it in the end but it falls apart, it's to little to late. Damn!

The keyboard player play it better in my opinion. He caught the real feel of the song. Maybe that's what Carlos was doing? Allowing the keyboardist play it? Da fuck? He could've, would've, should've tore this mofo up. I'm disappointed in Carlos on this one.
