🤦‍♂ Why don't people understand that this kind of thing actually makes POC's look so much "less"? This would only be funny if it were a send-up comedy......

Ugh.....If I owned a studio, I could make literally one phone call, and license a better idea than this...I could make it into a trilogy.

In the hands of really skilled writers this could conveivably have been a good movie. But that would probably be an uphill battle, and these writers had roller skates.

Everyone in my group disliked this film. It made NO sense why they had it take place in present day - the stats and reality do not support the narrative they were trying to sell us. I'm so tired of racial divisiveness in films/shows today that even if they had it take place decades ago (let's say, during the Jim Crow era), it still would have annoyed me. But at least it would have made sense.

I know what you mean! The race- hustlers and hate mongers want SOOOOO badly to believe that race relations nationwide today are every bit as bad as they were in Mississippi circa the 1940s if not earlier, and to convince us that this is the case when it is clearly not.

The title would’ve been a good name for a troop of African-American illusionists: watch while we pull cards out of thin air, rabbits out of hats, and perform the sewing a woman in half trick!

I'm not surprised. Racist tropes CAN be used to comedic effect, but that requires honest self-awareness. As LRC mentioned, there's the classic "Blazing Saddles," and of course "Tropic Thunder"... and I personally adore "The Jerk," which starts out with Steve Martin saying "I was born a poor black child." "Woke" can't laugh at itself, seeing laughter at "immutable characteristics" as racist. 🥸

I have another: "I'm Gonna Get You Sucka", but I saw it as a Wayan Brothers parody of blaxploitation films.

Did David Alan Grier actually read the script before signing on? I thought he would prefer something a bit more clever.

He was in I'm Gonna Get You Sucka as a variation of an Uncle Tom, so I'm not terribly surprised. I love the aforementioned film as a parody of blaxploitation films--I will be astonished if this other film is a Wayan Brothers project (I doubt it is, though).

First of all, I'm a fan who genuinely loves your channel. Anyways, I'll admit that I'm a white male, so yea, I'm prob not the target audience. Being said, more than anything, this movie irrationally disappointed me. Maybe I'm just being too sensitive about this, but it really bothers me that people out there, like these writers, have a simplistic view about me because of the color of my skin, which I can't control. It just feels unfair and mean-spirited. Key and Peel are my favorite comedians and they joke about racial stuff all the time without it being hostile. FFS I don't feel uncomfortable around black people or have "white tears" whenever I encounter a person of a different race. Also, blazing saddles was a ****ing masterpiece. It's one of the greatest comedies of all time.

I'm not liking this trend of a big pity party speech at the end of movies - Barbie's "it's impossible to be a woman" speech, and now this one. I'm not sure the end of a movie should be a like someone venting to their therapist.

The movie was awful!!! I’m not shocked it only made 1.2 Million. I think it would’ve been a better idea to make the plot about the fact the “magical Negro” is out of work these days..

I almost walked out this movie. The romantic scenes were so boring. Of course the two black witch leads were masculine looking. One bald the other heavy set. I wanted to see some crazy beautiful powerful black women but of course not. Of course not a black love story. It was terrible.

Yes White people are definitely afraid of scrawny biracial dudes. At least make it realistic and have the main character be part of a Gang and with tattoos. Make him look intimidating. No one is intimidated by this guy. Also, I'm adding every actor in this movie to my No Watch List. They are boycotted in our household as is Dwayne Johnson and many other Celebs. I'm sick of Hollyweird trying to lecture us but in the end I feel like all they're doing with movies like this is creating more division.
