I used to do everything climbing related when I was a kid; parkour, rock climbing, obstacle courses, the whole thing. I watched the original Ninja Warrior and then American Ninja Warrior religiously when it came out. I'm on the bigger side, so I knew I'd never be able to be the best, but it was my dream to eventually compete on the show, if even just to fall on the first obstacle. Then during my 8th Grade year, a wrestler fell on my extended leg, popping my knee backwards and tearing my patellar tendon. I was able to do physical therapy to walk normally again, but if I do anything like climbing or something involving the full extension of my leg, my kneecap threatens to slide out of place. As a result, I haven't done any of the activities I used to for over 6 years. The one time I tried to rock climb again, I gave myself a limp for 3 days. I say all of this because, as my ability to do these activities ceased, so did my enjoyment of watching them. What used to motivate me and excite me now only reminded me of what I couldn't do anymore, of something I really enjoyed that I'd never get to see to the extent I'd wanted to. I moved on to other hobbies, other past times, ones that accommodated my leg and body type, and more or less stopped watching Ninja Warrior and related stuff altogether. This video is the first Ninja Warrior content I've watched in probably 3 years. And it's amazing. The skill you guys have, the dedication and strength, it's downright incredible, even compared to the contestants I used to idolize. I was in awe watching how smoothly and confidently you did these nearly superhuman feats. It was inspiring. While I don't think I'll ever be able to do what I used to, at least at the level I used to, you've sparked an old joy in my heart. You reminded me of what it was like being a 6 year old kid excitedly jumping up and down to the opening theme of Sasuke and ANW. Thank you so much.
