At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

Mahidevran was an angel in comparison to Hurrem. You wouldn't defend Hurrem's actions had she killed one of your loved one's. Hurrem was a killing machine, she took innocent lives.

Mahidevran failed her son. Her one job was to secure his place in the line of succession. She knew the game she was playing and she played it poorly.

@cl5470 while l agree with your statement to some degree, it's when Hurrem's fans call Mahidevran hateful and evil and she started this, she did this and that to Hurrem, that's where I completely disagree. If Hurrem had come before Mahidevran she would've played just as dirty to protect her position and her children's future. I even wrote to many others, why all these concubines wanted one Prince after another especially Hurrem knowing fratricide existed and implemented. This fratricide also meant losing all your own sons except maybe one by fate. How could they be so joyful and merry giving births to princes knowing that their fate was sealed by deaths with execution? The other point was, sadly it wasn't just procreating with the sultan lead to losing the game or deaths, you just had be at the wrong place at the wrong time to lose your life like many innocent concubines that had no intimacy with the sultan or even if they did no princes were born from them.
