@@FirenX951 Yes, I'm aware. But I'm just saying that an Any% No Debug Menu category would be best. Most games that have these sorts of skips are placed in their own category. That way, people who want to run the Debug Menu can submit runs to that category, and people who don't want to run that can submit it to the normal Any% No Debug Menu. Everybody wins in that situation. Both Debug users and non Debug users.

Well...those Tony Hawk's cheats were legit. To me this sounds more like one of the hundred fake Mew-glitches that have been around on playgrounds like fainting on S.S. Anne after getting HM Cut so the ship doesn't depart. Then you have to come back when you learned HM Surf and HM Stength so you can surf to the dock in the harbour where you'll find a truck. Use Strength to push it away and Mew will attack you.

Majora's Mask is my favorite Zelda game, and it's outstanding that this has been acheived. Great job to the speedrunner! And also, yeah, because of the nature of this glitch, I'd say it belongs in a new category imo, with all previous ones being moved to a new category banning the Debug glitch.

As far as I'm concerned, there are 2 distinct genres of speedrun: glitched, and glitchless. Both are equally valid, and neither is superior. I prefer glitchless speedruns for their display of supreme skill at the game, generally as it was intended to be played. Glitched speedruns show great knowledge if the meta aspects of the game (i.e., that it is fundamentally a creation of humans, who are flawed, and who deserve to have their flaws exploited in the name of fast times, however that may occur).

It seems like other crazy fast glitch categories in my opinion (which I think is super cool and I love) and is just another step in beating the game as fast as possible by any means possible and that's really what any % is, let the racing begin to optimize this route!

I think it shouldn’t be allowed. Even if the debug menu only appears after a complicated glitch, it still is a “magical menu” where you can just finish all the game by changing a switch, which is not exactly playing it at its fullest. Or just make it it’s own category

Any% means literally Any%. If they put it in the game, intended or unintended, without any sort of outside mod, it should be okay. Alternate categories exist for a reason, just make a category that leaves out this one trick. Plus, as someone else already said, I agree with moving the rest of the existing runs to said no debug category.

Frankly, the simple question "would this be allowed if done through a menu?" is telling enough to determine whether or not things such as this should be allowed in speedruns. Yes it is a cool trick, won't argue that in the slightest, yet when you get access to the dev menu, you've pretty much got yourself an automatic win ticket. It's to me akin to beating pokemon in 0 seconds. It's a neat trick but a completely pointless one as it defeats the spirit of speedruns.

I like how the reasoning at 2:30 is basically, "if the debug menu was accessable through intended means, this would not have been allowed. but since it was not intended, its ok" even though "devs did not intend this" is often said in definitions of cheating, not that I disagree. I like the idea of shifting older runs to a Any% no debug menu, although I'm not in the speed runner community. the nice thing is that even if the record is beaten again, the very existence of the new cagagory is owed to the guy which is a bit of a record in itself. (yes, he diden't discover the glitch, he just was the first to use it....but the glitch had to be used for it to force the new catagory afterall!) :P

I'd say make it a new category. Debug tools are too powerful. A developer's tools are basically designed to cheat the game. To me, this isn't too much different than just inputting a cheat at a password screen to just skip to the final boss and calling it a legitimate run.

This is honestly really interesting. I've been watching MM any% since I was a boy in highschool. Definitely a strange method to pounder on, though I believe it's not entirely game breaking where you need to cheese your run for it. I believe they should allow it, or either add a new category. It still takes time to be able to finish the run itself. Sure the method of use to finish the game is quite "broke" some might say. Though it doesn't entirely skip the game, as if it's a true wrong warp, and being able to get you to end game with ease. A skip is a skip though, and it's an alarming time save to not look into.

The issue here is that it requires a portion of the game to already be played. If it were accessible ANYTIME, then it would be a roving debug. I would say this is an unintended debug accessible glitch and that it, TO ME, should be allowed in speedruns. If need be, make a category for it, but it seems to be an unintended access. This is something we've seen in other games where a glitch allows you to beat the game from the beginning, like in Pokemon Yellow. In Pokemon Yellow, a series of input put you at Hall of Fame cutscene and ending the speedrun at 0:00. That's an intended dev screen glitch. Not a partway through the game glitch for devs like exampled here.
