Was a cool idea. The blood angels falling to slaanesh was off to me though, I felt like they'd be the legion of khorne if the HH was reversed. Can't really see any of the loyalists going to slaanesh, maybe a route through pride with a couple chapters but not degeneracy

So here's an idea I've had, instead of the primarchs falling, Big E does. Instead of planning to use the webway to cut humanity off from chaos as much as possible, he uses the great crusade as a ritual of sacrifice to make himself a new god of chaos, taking inspiration from how Slaanesh was born. The ensuing war is all the primarchs realizing "oh balls, dad's completely lost his mind", and all teaming up to work together against Big E and his chaos bananas and cultist guard. Just to make it even more complete, you could have them teaming up with Xenos who realize how down the shit has gone to turn the setting even further on its head than it's already gotten. Resulting in a final battle on Terra where, just for the hell of it I'll say Horus, sacrifices himself keeping "The 5th God Neoth" occupied while everyone else carries out the desperate final play, destroying the Sol System entirely. This results in Big E punching his own second Eye of Terror into the Galaxy where our solar system used to be, and the Imperium's zealous faith being based on Horus' martyrdom rather than Big E's protection. Also the capital of this Imperium would probably end up being ultramar since Sol just got Exterminovad

The problem is, Big E upbringing is too mysterious and complicated to actually make a scenario of him falling into chaos, and if it did, the unification war , and the creation of primarch themselves would be vastly dufferent from the canon, and so does the great crusade, so no, unlike many replies here, i don't think it can work properly

reading about Angron staying loyal, and *without* the Butchers Nails in his head, is pretty cool. Loyalist World Eaters that were so loyal, effective, and honorable that the Inquisition chose not to mess with them, outright preventing the Months of Shame War. and Magnus staying loyal was cool, too. that's definitely worth making them an army in Dark Crusade and Soulstorm, and an armor set in Space Marine.

One thing I like about Perty in this scenario is his ending: the Emperor wants to make him the Praetorian of Terra, putting him in charge of humanities largest and most significant worlds. Instead, Perty asks the Emperor to be relived of his service to the Imperium so that he can retire to the countrysides of Olympia. The Emperors response? “At last I am certain. Konrad's story is actually heartwarming because he was the most beloved by the outcast primarchs. Fulgrim actually broke down (despite tortured endlessly) when he heard of his death from Sevatar and Mortarion was really feeling guilty that he left Konrad (who sacrificed himself to hold back Vulkan) so he could warn Terra. Heck only Konrad knows the existence of twin primarchs (as opposed to the usual) and they both look up to him because he kind of reprimanded them not to overkill.

I love the Roboutian Heresy. My favorite loyalist Primarch is Angron as he makes Vulkan from the canon universe look a bit selfish by comparison (I still like loyalist Vulkan though). The traitor Primarch I feel bad for is Ferrus Manus as he has fallen to Chaos by accident and is also a good lesson to learn on making your machine body magic proof as much as it can be. Maybe Tzeentch "just as planned" is the way women plan Vs the way men plan (generalisation of course, but this is the easiest way to describe it): Making a full schedule where everything and every event is filled in years in advance, but where one disruption means the whole thing is out of wack; or instead only making loose guidelines so you are never fully certain of what will happen and not as efficient, but more adaptable when something goes wrong. What if Tzeentch pretends he is the former while he is actually the latter?

Only issue I have is that with Magnus being a loyalist the Emperor has a decent replacement for himself to hold the webway together which would have allowed the Emperor to fight in the siege. Magnus would have been hurt by the ordeal but I think he'd it hold to together longer and without getting dusted like Malcador the Bro.

I think there is a trade of here to make thing more balanced. In canon traitors had the better headstart because of Horus being warmaster. But in roboutian heresy, it begun with less of a momentum but you know they had guilliman

Actaually Things in RH 40k were slightlly better for the imperium: Zahariel has stated that this universe is a bit better off than the canon one because he cannot match that level of Grimdark. To elaborate, the Imperium as a whole is much more unified than in the HH timeline, especially since the Loyalist legions have not been divided by the Codex Astartes. The average citizen is intelligent enough to recognize and report corruption by Xenos or Chaos (as opposed to being utterly ignorant), and the Inquisition, while still as ruthless as ever, is more reasonable or at the very least more pragmatic than in the HH timeline. The Emperor and the Loyalist Primarchs are much more firmly heroic and sympathetic (with the Traitor Primarchs being more firmly evil as a result), and Guilliman's strategy of Istvaan III was not as effective as Horus's since the Night Lords and the Alpha Legion sensed a trap was coming. Finally, the Traitor Legions after the Heresy are overall much more divided and arguably less effective than in canon. They are more securely trapped in their respective Warp Storms thanks to the Iron Cages and also thoroughly hate each other (especially between the Ultramarines and the rest of the traitors) to the point that have even given up opportunities to attack a weakened Imperium to wage war with each other instead (such as the Unborn Crusade).

While reading the Roboutian heresy, I just realized that the traitor legions in that lore were much stronger compared to the traitor legions on canon lore. For example, imagine a Death Guard but with cybernetic enhancements. Obviously such will be much stronger and tougher. That is an Iron Hand inflicted by Nurgle on Roboutian heresy canon. Or imagine a vampiric Emperor's Children, or a World Eater but disciplined and not a mindless berserker. That is the Blood Angels and Imperial Fists corrupted by Slaanesh and Khorne respectively on the Roboutian heresy lore.

I love how in these reverse heresy situations the Night Lords always end up being my favorite. Just the idea of Conrad for seeing his death and the heresy but instead of falling into madness, embracing both hope to change the future for the better and embracing that his death is inevitable, both a rejection and acceptance of Tzeentch and Nurgle which would drive them mad and would show the loyalist the true way to defeat the chaos gods.

My main and only real issue with the Roboutian heresy is the fact that Curze already had a built in redemption arc in his backstory that is passed up. When Curze is hunting two attempted rapists after killing one he gets a vision of two possible futures if he spares the boy. In one the boy makes Curze a better man and together they make Nostromo a better place to live in. In the other the boy goes for his knife, stabbing Curze and escaping his story going on to weaken Curze's influence significantly. In the cannon rather than risk it he breaks the boys neck but its shown that the boy didn't go for the knife making for a much more cannon adhering redemption if he simply made a different choice

It’d have to deal with the death or loss of the Emperor, him not being there is what makes them fall apart. It likely deal with Horus, Guilliman and the Lion while those three argue most would leave and do something else and or maybe something to do with Sanginius, he’d be the closest thing to holding everyone together. Like Guillimans empire grows vast along with a imperium led by Sanginius but they both over time don’t see eye to eye and overtime lose faith and respect with each other, this would have to happen early maybe the order was different in which they where found, the Emperor disappeared or dies some how and the first two sons try and find their brothers creating separate armies and truths along the way.

Two small problems persist like with most alternates. With Magnus as a battery around, there is no reason for the emperor to ascend to the golden throne and this version also doesn't seem to account for Malcador sacrificing himself to buy the Emperor a few precious moments away from the throne. This means that both are free to act such as the Emperor resolving the Webway issue far faster and freeing up his Custodes/Sisters or directly joining the front line and link up with his sons. Similarly, with Perturabos traps working to separate the traitors, the loyalists would have a prime opportunity to pick them off one by one by mobbing them while the other traitors are still wandering the palace. The other one could be hand-waived with demonic shit but even though he is a perpetual, Vulcan wouldn't immediately resurrect after being cut down. It takes time to reassemble himself since he's essentially just a demon possessing the body of a mortal form and when a demon is banished they can't immediately come back. Still, it seems well written.

Regarding Magnus and Golden Throne; It seems Emperor had second thoughts about making Magnus into battery, especially after Magnus propose the God-Calling plan. Regarding Perturabo's traps, the problem is not that the traps not working, it was Loyalist Legion unwilling to let collateral damage to be monstrous, spreading their forces relatively thin. Not helped that at least 3 Loyalist legion cannot arrived to Terra on time, limiting their option. Vulkan's immortality: He's injured by single spear, not being grinded or atomized. Aside from cursed wounds, he can heal himself quickly just fine.

Though without Lorgars religious preaching I'd say the Empire would have still turned out better than the 40k one. What I meant by picked off one by one was to simply throw all primarchs at them at the same time so they don't even have a chance to fight back. Should be quicker and safer than duelling. Still not sure what happened to Malcador. He was supposed to be a powerful enough Psyker that he could essentially force choke (non-demon) Horus to the brink of death and as a perpetual, he should still be around if he didn't burn his soul out on the Golden Throne to lead the Empire.

Loyalist Word Bearers and Lorgar is the highlight for me in the Alternate Heresy. A Primarch and a Astartes Legion that still adheres to the principles of the Great Crusade despite it causing them to be estranged from the wider Imperium and be seen as heretics by some of the Imperial factions is a great idea. Also Alt Lorgar being one of the beacons of hope for the alt 40k universe is fantastic idea and a tragedy. Loyalist Lorgar is really similar to his Father other than Alt Lorgar hasn't given up his humanity unlike his father in canon even before the enthronement. A tragedy cause he is nice for a primarch and his fall to Chaos in canon was a really sad

Really fun ideas, it makes me think: what if Guilliman's fall to chaos actually happened after the Horus Heresy? Hear me out: say that, after the original Heresy's end, Guilliman realizes that his legion is the biggest one left by a big margin, and seeing that everyone's else is just freaking broken, he realizes that he can just start calling the shots in the whole imperium, so instead of making the reforms he did in the original timeline, he kinda gets this Imperium Secundus plan in full motion, first because he actually thinks this is the best idea, but after a while he kinda falls in a story similar to Hurons Blackheart's. So yeah, from this point on things just go crazy, maybe Guilliman accepts some of the traitor and loyalist Primarchs at his side (dunno, maybe a non chaos Perturabo and the Lion), while some would definitely stick to chaos or the imperium, like Lorgar and Down.

To be honest i used to feel alot of "hero" names in LOTR sounded rather sinister when i first heard/read them. I think it would have been much much worse for the Imperium, The Ultramarines controlled a much larger fleet and far more populated chunk of space, and at least 10x the imperial guard forces that the Luna Wolves had. Also Gulliman would not have been so stupid as to place himself into zap range of big E. He would have had his bomb Terra from orbit and killed everything on it before moving on. Horos has no choice but one last assault on Terra in cannon because the Ultramarines were about to turn up and crush his forces, this way around the Ultramarine fleets would have crushed the local ones and would have no one to fear, so could have just taken there time and picked apart Terra from a long as way away. I doubt Guilliman would even put himself in the same system. He would surround himself with blanks ready to f over his dad the moment he showed up.
