In this video I make a very simple Keepsake Box from scrap walnut and ash. I make a lot of these boxes and they are a very good use of the scrap wood I have laying around the shop. Because of its size I can use scraps that aren’t really useful for anything else and turn them into something elegant and useful. This easy to make keepsake or jewelry box can be made quickly and is a lot of fun to make.

Very nice box! I've made a few of these lately but not as nice as yours. But, I did find a good idea. I added splines and also a tic tac toe contrasting insert which transformed it into a nice Tea box for the ladies in your life. They are very very popular, a nice kitchen centerpiece and low cost as I use cutoffs mostly. Good Job again! Thanks.

My first youtube comment ever! Thank you for your video. I made the box, I’m a well advanced beginner. I had some challenges and maybe my experience can help others. My miters did not turn out well. I used dewalt table saw, crosscut sled, blade at 45 deg checked with a speed square for accuracy. So I bought the wood putty referenced in this video. Since I decided to use maple for the box and walnut for the lid, the miters were maple. Used the timbermate maple filler and sanded and they really did not look that good. Dark lines were apparent. Would have done a walnut box if I could do over -the dark color would hide the imperfections better. Or, I would have built a better jig to cut my miters. Pay close attention to the hinges you buy, screw type and size. Many of rocklers have ROUNDED head screws which means the box will not close. They have to be flush screws. I used the lid epoxy technique in this video but ran into some trouble due to less than perfect drilling. Next time I would epoxy hinges to the box, then epoxy to the lid. That keeps the screws from pulling the hinges crooked if your drilling is even slightly off. A little bit off goes a long way to crookedness. All things considered, I have a nice looking box. Thanks again for the video!
