This quilt pattern intrigues me❣️ The longer I look at it, the more the pattern changes. THANK YOU so much for sharing it with us.

It really is a fun quilt to look at!

Yes, the pattern changed for me too. If I made this quilt, I would assemble it so that there were horizontal rows that make it look like hundreds of birds waiting in line. I'd call the quilt, "Birds of a Feather" as I love birds. Or, depending on the fabrics I used, I might call it, "Getting All My Ducks In A Row".

Can't wait to make this quilting. Thanks for the free download of the placement. I just love watching you. I wish I could be a member but living on a fixed income doesn't make it happen. But I watch you all the time. ❤❤❤

I love it! Your tutorials are so fun, as well as the patterns and color choices. I love lots of color in my quilts. Mark, The Quilting Marine, says I use "in your face colors". I really like the way you explained what the stubby sides of the half hexis were for, and how to line up your columns so the points match. 😊❤

At first glance I thought all the strips were offset but as you explained it, wow!! That really makes this layout so striking!! I have used that template before so am eager to try this. I wonder how it would look with a larger hexi?

16:27 when matching these seams I found using binding clips helpful. Some of these clips have a quarter inch mark so you can place it a quarter inch from the edge and then lift up the fabric to check the position. I’ve been wanting to make a half hexie quilt. I have a Sizzix die for that shape. The next time I sort out my scraps I think I’ll start cutting bunches of them.

Binding clips are a great option too!

Thank you for the tip about eliminating pinked edges. I'm making a machine sewn grandmother's flower garden quilt using the same template as you. What I found, however, is that some manufacturers measure the 2 1/2 inch jelly roll strips from the OUTSIDE of the pinked edge. This means you can't remove the "hills." Since I decided to use up my stash of jelly roll strips, it's been a nightmare between the measurements--pinked edges hill or valley and then some strips with no pinking! I'm making it work, but if I were to do another quilt using this template, I would buy one manufacturer's product and then measure at the store to be sure I could cut off the hills. BTW This is a beautiful pattern!
@revelationquiltsКүн бұрын
Luckily, the valleys of the pinked edges will hide in your seam allowance, but yes, those edges can be a pain. I understand why they do it though.

at around 9 minutes: is the layout different on the left vs the right? It seems there is 1 single column vs 2 on the right. However, like Jenny on MSQC says, "I'm angley challenged"!!!
@revelationquiltsКүн бұрын
The layout is the same, but the entire quilt is not shown in the full pic.

The way this pattern reads to my eye and mind, I see columns 2, 3, and 4 in a 3-column repeat across the quilt, with an extra row on the left edge. 2 and 3 share the light/background S shapes, and 3 and 4 share the dark S shapes. If the repeat is columns 2-4, you don't need to worry about matching between column 6 and the next column 1. Also for anyone who really can't stand waste, it would be possible to sew long tubes (like for a bargello quilt) and cut them in the correct/strategic spot. Of course, that isn't a beginner-friendly technique!

I appreciate your insight and comment. As with any quilt design, there are many ways to construct it. As the designer of this quilt, it's interesting to have someone see it in another way. Our brains all work in different ways. Best Wishes.
@bonniechrisrensen101616 сағат бұрын
To even the outer edge cut a hexie in half. You can skip the last trim .😊
@revelationquilts11 сағат бұрын
You'd still have to trim. Some hexi's would have to be cut 1/4 in order to avoid squaring up the top/bottom.

If I stick to the 4 pack of colors and your lights, what size quilt does this make?
@revelationquiltsКүн бұрын
4 charm packs each light & dark makes a 60” x 74” quilt as stated in the video.

I'm not positive, but if you cut the layer cake into 2.5 inch scrips instead of squares, you might be able to more out of them. (In my mind 3 per 2.5x10.5 strip. I don't have the template or any quilting software to verify...)

@@maryfarley7437 good to know. Meanwhile, I have made more than one jelly roll quilt out of a layer cake - I do better cutting & sewing with the 2.5x10.5 units
@dorothyyoung8231Күн бұрын
Layer cakes are not 10.5” in either direction. They are 10” square.
