I have made the Guinness Chocolate Cake and I can attest that it is quite delicious! For even more decadence, make two layers and in betweeen put a layer of Bailey’s flavoured buttercream. Put a thick layer of buttercream on top and it will look like a pint of Guinness! 🇮🇪

My support worker is Irish so I've learnt a lot of phrases from her. My favourite is still when she says 'ach away' 😀 I live in Wales but was raised in England so know a few of the phrases you used like donkeys years and earwigging. I loved learning some new phrases to add to my collection. I knew messages and also saying is that you means are you ready. The slang was interesting. We use several of those terms in the US - at least those of us 50 and over who grew up on the East Coast do. Maybe because there are sooo many people of Irish extraction around and sooo many of us have Irish a few generations back. The cake looks good - can’t wait to try it.

I made this some time last year and can attest that it's fantastic! Moist, fluffy and rich tasting. I swapped out the glaze for a cream cheese frosting though. Maybe it's time I make it again for St Patrick's Day:)

Irish sayings are very similar to English sayings. There were few that I had not heard before. To the cake, I will try it as I never knew you can bake with Guinness. PS a very long time, I worked in London near a Guinness factory, we had the smell of hops all day.

I've made a Guinness cake several times with a very similar recipe. I use a cream cheese frosting that i add a little baileys too just for an added little kick. It is so very good!!

FYI: I had a can of Chocolate Stout that measured 1.5 cups (355ml). The recipe called for 1 cup (240ml). I wanted to use the whole can so I made 1.5 times the recipe and put it in a bundt pan. It was too much batter for the bundt pan, so I made 10 cupcakes with the remainder.

Hi Rehana. There really isn’t a substitute for the Guinness as it is what makes it a Chocolate Guinness Cake. But you can try another kind of dark or strong beer or go with a chocolate cake recipe like this, www.biggerbolderbaking.com/best-ever-chocolate-cake/ instead.
