A collection of quick experiments immediately after racking the newly-released Make Noise/Soundhack Morphagene, using a variety of sampled and synth sources. Mostly just a learning exercise.
Off-camera I used the DPO, an Intellijel Polaris, and an Audio Damage Neuron for sounds; Maths, Rene, Mutable Peaks, QU-Bit Octone, and I think the IFM Dunst for a little pitch and/or modulation. But for the purposes of this video I am mostly just trying to demonstrate how the different knob settings on the Morphagene effect the sounds and samples fed into it.
Includes samples from Alien 3 OST, Chopin, and others. After listening back on headphones, I realized that Chopin piano piece near the end actually has birds tweeting on the recording. :)

finally, something properly dark from a eurorack video. everyone is obsessed with hyper-cheery music so it is refreshing to hear more dark timbres. Great video showcasing the possibilities of the morphagene.

the best eurorack module on the planet. #1 in my top 10 best eurorack modules. i started with eurorack just because i played with this amazing lil thing at my friends house. the fist time i gave this module a listen, i knew right away i don't anything else anymore.... i just want this. so after a year waiting my ASS off, i'm finally an owner and completely eurorack addicted very very heavy!!! tremendous video, by the way!!

Not dissimilar to my journey- first time I saw this in a video I knew i’d end up with this and stuff to ‘make it go’, at the very least. Well, I’ve got the stuff to make it go, and now I just need this and Pamela’s New Workout, and whaddyaknow? Out of stock in the UK…

@wavedepletion
@wavedepletion 6 жыл бұрын
Snorre Laugerud Yeah I imagine that would work fine! Though I think you’d pretty quickly want to add at least another modulation source and some VCA’s to get full use of it.

any recommendations on a make noise system with this for 1500$ or so, thing is just incredible, im a lamen to modulars and have drum machines and samplers, this really caught my attention.
@wavedepletion
@wavedepletion 7 жыл бұрын
$1500 might be doable as a bare minimum start, but you'll quickly exceed that several times over once you begin to understand how to unlock functionality in a modular. And it really depends quite a bit on what you want out of it. I'd suggest getting on Muffwiggler and reading for a few weeks or so first to get a better idea of how best to get started. And don't forget you also need to factor in a case of some sort, power supply, cables, etc.

wonderful. however, what's the patching actually? I see the only CV in for Morphagene is the Gene size (around 3-4 minute of the video), if I'm not mistaken. what do the other mentioned modules do in this case?
@wavedepletion
@wavedepletion 7 жыл бұрын
Casi Cada Minuto The patching changes throughout the different clips. And some stuff is happening off-camera: For instance, the DPO's Fold and Mod inputs where that is used as a sound source, and in one clip the Varispeed is being changed via an offset from a middle channel on the Maths. But yeah, for this video I am mostly trying to visually demonstrate how the different knob settings on the Morphagene effect the sound.

Hay! Lovely demo. Do you have any experience with Mutable Instruments Clouds? If so, are these two similar?
@wavedepletion
@wavedepletion 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, I have a Clouds. There is some small amount of overlap in the sense that you can scrub through a sample buffer, but they do this in unique ways. I suppose Morphagene is more of a hi-fi tape machine that chops up audio, whereas Clouds is more of a texture pad/FX processor. They play well together and I can't say I've thought of only keeping one or the other.
@Grauskegg

@RAFAELLO077
@RAFAELLO077 7 жыл бұрын
is it possible to have it as a standalone somehow ?
@wavedepletion
@wavedepletion 7 жыл бұрын
I suppose you could, but you'd need a power supply, a small case, an output module, and perhaps a VCA and something for modulation to get the bare minimum amount of functionality. That's perhaps $1000-$1500 US at least. Unless you plan on growing into a larger Eurorack system, it would be a bit silly and you should probably just get an Octatrack instead.
