I keep a dishpan with water in it next to me (even on the floor is fine) to toss dirty stencils into. It keeps them wet and I can continue to play and wash off the stencils properly later. I saw Tim Holtz uses this method also.

That is a great idea! It would actually potentially solve my question about how to prevent all the glitter from going down the drain. You could just strain the dirty water through a fine mesh sieve, rag, or something similar, and dispose of the glitter in the garbage.

Now I’m glad that I didn’t throw out my old eye shadow. Some of the colors are best used for decorating things other than eyelids on an old gal like me. This is an idea that totally supports the idea of a handmade greeting card. Thanks very much for the simply beautiful idea.

An unscientific observation: I made up some silver glitter paste using Tonic Craft Glue and glitter. Beautiful results. Unfortunately, I made too much, but I figured I'd cover it for awhile and use the rest in a day or two. I mixed the paste in one of those small disposable plastic condiment containers...you know, the cheap ones. Add glue and glitter, stirred with tiny wooden stir sticks. Beautiful results, but I had leftovers. So, I covered the little container in two layers of Press'n'Seal, tightly, with the ends of the wrap twisted securely. Then I put it aside to use the next day -- and forgot it for something like 3 months! Uncovering it while searching for something else, I figured it was useless. No, it was FINE; didn't have to add any glue or water, the paste was as shiney and supple as the day I made it! Okay, I'm flummoxed. Maybe this is a one-time deal, maybe we're just not wrapping our containers tightly enough, maybe Press'n'Seal is a miracle worker. Anyway, this batch lasted me months!

I totally get what you mean about getting too hot. July 2021 in Victoria BC Canada, we had a heat dome. I live in an old mobile home that only has 1/4” insulation and on the hottest day it went up to 106F in my living room and 104F in my bedroom. This was around 5 PM. I love the way you’ve made the pastes. ❤️😊

This summer has been MENTAL in Canada, My mom is in Edmonton and i feel so sorry for her as she's messaged so many weeks saying it's over 30 again! Over 30 is just toooooooo hot. Thankfully nearly every shop in Canada has AC. Here it's usually only food selling places and the more high end/popular chain retail shops. Most clothing or home goods DONT have ac! Try shopping when it's melting out for clothes in a hot shop!

Sasha, what an awesome video! I learn so much from you. I need to order Arteza glitter and mica as well. I love love love your emerald green cards. And orange really is one of my favorite colors. My kitchen walls are painted "Georgian Leather" which is specific to one paint company here in the states. Thank you for all your videos, this long one doesn't feel long at all. I never get bored watching you, I may be interrupted and have to return to finish watching, but its never from boredom. It's December, eight mire shopping days. I'm working my way backwards to learn more. Hands on is best for me and I'll get there soon as I gather supplies. Thank you for all you do! 🖌🎨🖊📖

That was a great tutorial, thank you! I love your enthusiasm (and your joy at having some 'me time' - I remember those days well). Thanks to your experimentation, we can all follow your example. Would a very light dusting of baby powder or an anti-static bag (like we use before heat embossing) get rid of the slight stickiness you had when using the mica powder technique, I wonder? Take care and thanks again.

I use acrylic gloss gel to make my own pastes. You can mix watercolors as well with the gel and make kind of your own jewels drops. You can mix watercolors with glossy acryliv varnish too and make kind of a glas paint. Sadly it's not possible to post pictures here then I could show what I've done with it. 😊 If you put a piece of cling film on top of your containers and then put the lid on it'll be air tight too. I've put cling film on all of my containers withs pastes and stuff even the bought ones 'cause they aren't as air tight as they should be.

A tip from mixed media arts: use Golden heavy gel matte medium. I usually mix just what I need right on my glass media mat and skip using a container. You can lay down a scoop on the mat and then add glitter, mica powders, reinkers, a swipe from an ink pad, etc.
@kathyesquerra2085

Add the pigment powder with the glitter and it’ll be just like the Nuvo, been making my own for well over a year, I put it in an air tight container and it stays perfect. Haven’t had any dry out yet, now I don’t use straight up glue, I use a thicker stuff and the name eludes me right now, if you’re interested just comment and I’ll get you the name, it makes it so nice and way cheaper.

Acrylic Iridescent medium is a better base than glue and can be divided into air tight containers to last a long time. Then mica powers, eye shadow, acrylic paint can be used to colour it and you have coloured shimmer paste. Or you can put a small amount in a tiny container, colour it, and use it fro your current project.

Great video! I'm looking forward to making some glitter pastes...up until now I've been a glitter-free household. I couldn't be doing with the mess. I have used the IZINK glitter paint and that stuff is AMAZZING because it doesn't go anywhere you don't want it to. But the idea of making my own with the colors I want makes me want to start buying glue and glitter. I already have a set of 24 mica colors so I'm all set with them. So I'm DOOMED! Loved your tutorial, I'm going to go watch the rest of them now. Keep up the great video. Many KZbin videos are hard to watch because of bad videography, audio, or the person just "emmm" and "errrrs" throughout the video, or just can't string together a sentence that makes sense. You suffer from none of these...so keep making vidoes!

Fantastic ideas, here! Can't wait to try.🙂 Someone gave a tip, one time, about water...regular tap water can mold (like in a long term paint ..I know you said most of your paints were temporary...but, from what I understand.. if it sits for a while...it can mold...distilled water keeps it's longevity. I don't know what the cost of distilled water costs in the UK...here in the USA...its usually under a dollar...and, lasts quite a long time. Again, FUN VIDEO😀

awe you are so super kind. I was so concerned with this one and how long it was and if that would put people off from watching it. But ive had a load of people say they really liked it. Thank you for your encouragement :)

HI Sasha, How absolutely amazing, and heres me going to spend £50 for glitter pastes(I dont think so) I cant find find any Arteza mica powders. I wonder if any glitter would work, as I dont know shop you are mentioning. Thank you so much for sharing. I've just got to figure what i can use for gilding flakes now, instead of buying the glue n sponges over and over. Uve got a new sub x

Absolutely loved this video and your techniques. I bought some of the nuvo mouse and probably 8 or 10 jars. They've all dried up with the exception of maybe 2. I was told by them to add some water to it. And put the lid back on, but it never worked anyhow. I'm going to try this little trick. And I hope to see more of you in the near future. Oh, and by the way, would you please include the US version of money and sizes? Thank you so much.

Thank you Sasha! This is awesome!! Have you tried using the press n seal under the top of the bottle to store the paste a bit longer? Funny, it’s about 35 degrees Fahrenheit where I am today!! But still very dry in Colorado! Your ideas are great! Your presentation great! Must watch more. Am going to move house and massively downsize so making as-you-use-them products may help with the reduced storage space! Thank you for reminding us to use reusable cleaning cloths!! Loved everything about this video!💕

One thing I saw (can't find the source!) was to mix any clear glue with a bit of cornstarch and then the mica/glitter. ....I do worry a bit about the long-term viability of such materials (would cornstarch attract some vermin?) but the results are lovely and don't have as much of a problem with drying too fast. They aren't maybe as nice as the pro-made types but they are mere fractions of the cost and, as you say, can be made with whatever old makeup or mica you may have. I'll have to try the "glue the stencil" trick. Under-stencil creep is definitely an issue.

P.S. I watch to use the techniques in junk journaling…do you think that the tacky glue would stay too sticky for longer term use in a journal, ie. the pages sticking together? I’ve heard that about tacky glue…wonder what a solution would be? Thank you for everything!

I think that video was awesome. I didn’t think it was too long at all. I watched till the very end. I love all the cards and I love the sentiments that you’re purchasing. I am with you. I like the back of the word it just makes the words pop, I gave you a thumbs up and I have subscribed to your channel quite a long time ago. I can’t wait to try making my own glitter paste. I think it’s going to be amazing. I have so much glitter and I don’t ever use it so this will be a great way to use it up. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Sasha some really beautiful work there love it. Everytime I make a stencil using my own glitter paste the cardstock ends up really warped and out of shape. Any tips on how to avoid warping please x

I would not wash the stencil, I would have use it in another card, like a stamp and create something different. Wasted glue-glitter 🤔

This was my favorite tutorial video you’ve done. I could have watched you make lots more but it sounds like you were melting! That orange glitter would make a beautiful sun. I have never been more excited to try all your “recipes” but I have to order glitter and mica, so it will be a while. All your cards were lovely. Be sure to post the finished ones when you get Alina’s word dies in. Hope it cools off soon for you. I’m in Florida so I’m used to it.

Maybe if you use a light coat of finishing media such as clear gloss it may camouflage the slight stickiness of the glue
