To cheer him up, Nick and his fiancé Selin decided it was the perfect time to upgrade his dark and messy home office, located in the attic of their apartment in an old house. The space is awkward and felt cramped with all of Nick’s equipment out in the open, so he’s hoping to introduce a bit more functionality and organization into it - and Alexandra is here to help.
Alexandra is going to come up with a makeover plan that makes Nick’s attic office feel bright, airy, and tidy so that he can be motivated to get right back to work once things pick up again. But here’s the catch - this is a VIRTUAL makeover - that means Alexandra designs the space, sends Nick the products, but Nick and Selin have to put it all together.

When I saw the attic space and the quantity of STUFF and the demeanor of Nick, I thought you were doomed. Never expected Nick to be so conscientious and so cooperative. (Stereotyped by scruffy beard and hair.) lol. Bravo to both of you! It is a great transformation. Can't believe the shadow and darkness the black shelves brought into the space. Love the blue storage cabinets!!!! Love the light wood desk, the chair and the rug, and LOVE the tribute to CHICO!!!! He has been an integral part of your success and so glad you honor him and his contributions. The space just looks so sharp and professional and it looks like it has lifted a cloud from over Nick's head! Great job all around.

There are lots of ways of repurposing greeting cards if you are a crafter. But let’s assume you aren’t. It is perfectly acceptable to throw them away (recycle if you can) after you’ve enjoyed them. Display them for the holiday season or a week or so around your birthday and then bye-bye. They can live on in your memory. Let’s say though that some mixture of guilt and appreciation prevents you from getting rid of them. You can photograph them. Digital storage has become cheap and it requires little effort. It really is a way of having it both ways. You preserve the good feelings and you don’t have clutter. At least not greeting card clutter; you may still have other kinds. This tip also works with all the stuff your loving family gives you that doesn’t work for your lifestyle or fit with your aesthetic. I’m assuming you are like me in that you either aren’t willing to say no and/or have some pushy family members who will not take no for an answer. It also works for all the childhood stuff you feel nostalgic and sentimental about. Take a photo and then get rid of it. My mother-in-law, grandmother-in-law, and two of my grandmothers all died within a few years of each other. I was inundated with little old lady stuff. My dad’s mom had three lawn bags full of greeting cards, part of another one, plus another bag full of unused greeting cards and stationery. That’s when I developed my chuck it out philosophy. Up until then I had been a card saver and so had my husband; we were raising our children to be card savers too. No more. I actually am an artist who makes greeting cards--like elaborate ones where I make the paper and handcraft all the gewgaws that decorate it. And I’m still saying throw them away. It’s okay.
