One thing I ended up getting that was super useful was like a screw/hardware organizer drawer. I keep all my spare batteries, 1/4" adapters, picks, rubber feet, USB adapters, twist ties, etc. Literally any small thing is in there and close by for any quick fixes or random issues. It's above the 25$ mark for sure lol, but Gosh darn is it worth the investment. All those small things u keep losing, finally all in one place and organized 🔥

This is a phenomenal list, none of the usual gadgets others think we should have. Great suggestions, all of them. I just started using the bowl of picks a couple months ago, and I feel silly saying how much this made my life better. It seems so simple, but I have a small bowl I made on a school tour in Japan, and I keep a variety of picks in there. It's always in reach at my desk, and my ADHD brain is grateful every time I need a pick.

Can you do a video about how you come up with rhythm please? Coming up with a good melody doesn’t matter if you’re not good at adding rhythm to it. Maybe a video about all of the different styles of rhythm you know about?

Honestly, that is just something that I feel when I work on music. I don't know how to teach it other than listen to a lot of music, study drummers, and familiarize yourself with different patterns that are common in genres.

Music tool box! Tool box with just music tools like batteries, string cleaner, wire cutters, screwdrivers, drum keys, Alan keys, strings, is an absolute life saver. Getting a normal tool box but just for music is such a go to. It’s the best thing I’ve done as far as organization. Also if you have no wall space the over door for wardrobes, lockers pockets are great space saving for cables. I wish I had enough room for the pegholes but I have guitars are the walls. But great list sir new sub 🫡

thanks Austin, great video! Every Studio needs a clock...I have a combined Digital Clock/ Thermometer/ Calendar sitting above my monitors. I use this thing to keep me on track and the thermometer is more useful than you might think...keeping the room at the optimal temperature can help to prevent fatigue as well as lower my bills!
@MakePopMusic17 күн бұрын
I have a fan with a theromstat in it but I’d never want a clock in the studio. Watching time would be awful for sessions in my opinion.
@skylightmusicshowree16 күн бұрын
@@MakePopMusic I take your point about about the clock. On reflection, my comment about 'every studio needs a clock' does seem rather dogmatic, which wasn't my intention. I was really focussing on our wellbeing. I find that I need to remind myself to take regular breaks and to remember not to extend my day beyond a reasonable amount. I now have a Fitbit which vibrates to let me know when I haven't moved in a while too. I much prefer glancing at a clock now and then, to me having to set alarms or timers on my phone/computer, but I guess it's a personal thing? I became so obsessed with the countdown and looming alarm that I ended up clock watching and that killed my flow and stressed me more! I'd be interested to know how everyone else approaches time management with regard to their wellbeing. Do you think that this would make an interesting enough topic for a future video?

I have smart lights in my studio as well as smart plug adapters. Best additional bit of gear to go with them is scene selection switches. I have a 4-button one I have assigned with various lighting options as well as options to power up and down certain pieces of gear. That way when walking out it's 3 buttons to turn off Everything. Also, a motion detector is great, I have one of those and when I or anyone else walks into the room it turns on the lights. Surprisingly handy.

Helpful Note: 1). You can get incense sticks at your local smoke shops as well. Call your local smoke shops first to confirm they sell these in person before wasting gas traveling to your local smoke shop.

I agree with some of the stuff you're recommending. A pegboard is something I didn't think of, a smart move. The lights and the foam? Uh, not so much. Lighting and foam (unless it's room treatment) may make an "Ah" moment for visuals but not a "YES" for a great mix. And YES!, a no smoking policy, air fresheners, and a bottle of Febreeze goes a long way.
@MakePopMusic9 күн бұрын
The foam is for comfort leaning against a desk all day. It’s super annoying getting splinters in your forearm from you desk. And lighting is 100% a vibe thing, but sometimes vibe is more important than an arbitrary piece of gear
@JoeRojasJNPMultimedia9 күн бұрын
@@MakePopMusic Maybe because I put my elbows on the tables. I also believe for the desk to splinter, it needs years for the desk to splinter and abuse. However, that's just me
