ok its more of a bodice than a corset but it looks like a corset and that's what counts?? I made this bodice for our big celestial sky pirate (skyrate) crew for the Virginia Renfaire this year and it turned out so cute i'm very proud 🥰 this is part two of the series, the next and last video will cover the skirt! I'll be wearing this again for pirate weekend at the Maryland renfaire this fall so join us as skyrates!!

Every time I hear someone say celestial pirate, my mind automatically goes to Treasure Planet. That movie is criminally underrated.

Exactly. I respect Minji, but I definitely don't get the association between AI and Pinterest at all. Besides, most of the 'art' on pinterest in modern day is AI generated, or AI edits of artist's work, now anyways. I avoid both like the plague. But props to anyone on being transparent about it all and willing to have discussion.

Aye! I feel that with Pinterest, at least the art you see (even uncredited) is usually the art as it was made. From there, there are a few ways to still find the original artist, should you want to - whether from a tiny signature, a miscredited Twitter link that retweets the original artist, a reverse image search. Otherwise, yes, it's sad the artist isn't witnessed, but hey, it's like taking inspiration from a shirt or building you saw while out shopping - nobody's going to breathe down your neck if you mention seeing the shirt or building but don't remember the name. However, for AI, there is no way to find the artists whose works have been plagiarised. At the basest sense, what you witness is a Frankenstein's monster. At least with uncredited Pinterest you're still appreciating art as it was made. I hope that helps Minji see a bigger divide. Love your makes Minji!! Your many corset videos have led to a much better understanding of construction and what I want or don't as I get ready for my first corset patterning and sewing adventure. Also love being able to glimpse into the world of ren faires overseas. You are a lovely person

I suspect the confusion between someone copying uncredited Pinterest art vs AI is that in both cases you're making a mashup of various artists' work without giving credit. The difference is that an AI does this mechanically, reproducing patterns blindly, but a human person also adds everything else they've ever seen, both in art and real life, makes active and deliberate as well as subconscious choices on what and how to copy based on personal and cultural preferences - or even physical ability like colour vision. As a process, AI art and human art are fundamentally different in that way. Of course a human curating the results of AI prompts introduces more creativity in the process, and modern art has already questioned originality (Andy Warhol comes to mind), but then we get to all other issues with AI as a tool, and people also aren't Warhol but using AI to avoid creative effort. As for the theft aspect, all you said applies, but the impact of a single human doing the copying is much smaller than a major business stealing art for profit (c.f. also Shein/Temu stealing art), like a fan artist can violate copyright and fly under the radar because the financial impact is tiny, but Walmart can't steal from Disney without a big lawsuit.

I would still watch even if you did use AI from time to time, but I really really appreciate you making the choice not to. I was indeed one of those people wanting to offer information so you can make an informed decision, and as a professional artist, I think we all appreciate the stance. Its sort of the only way we, as users, can really make a stand about the current state/use of unethical AI. I sincerely hope that it becomes an ethical tool in the future, where artists are compensated and consent is given. But enough of that, Love your work, love the content, and thank you for not only your transparency in the process in terms of controversial topics, but in willing to share it with the world. People like you inspire others every day. Keep it up!

Thank you for including a summary of the conversation and information about AI from the comments section of the previous video. Thank you for being open to new information and your accountability! It's hard to own up to a mistake, especially on the internet when people are often a lot more harsh and judgmental than they would be in person. I also thought some of the comments were a little harsh, but I commend you for not shying away from the topic. Not only have you helped bring awareness to the ethical and environmental problems of AI, but your maturity in showing your changed stance in light of new information is a great example to all of us on how we should change and evolve when presented with new information. The bodice turned out really well! I love the whole ensemble! I'm always inspired by the amount of detail you add--it's more than I would think to add, but it adds so much depth and texture! Also, I am so sorry about the tree, and the broken well pump, and the broken tooth. All of those things totally suck, and that's so much to deal with all at once! I hope everything gets resolved well soon, and that all those repairs aren't too expensive!

Love the vibes of this project!! Pirates are always a good time, and I love celestial themed costumes. I'm currently working on a big celestial themed costuming project myself, of formal wear (moon themed ball gown for myself, and a sun themed suit for my spouse). I commiserate with you about what you said re: the design process. Coming up with the design has been the hardest part, and I'd much rather just jump into the sewing! Excited to see the skirt video!

You've always been really good about listening to your audience and being transparent about your process; it's really inspiring to watch you handle learning from mistakes so well on a public level. Also, huge kudos to you for leaving in the part where you explain how you used it without putting in the actual AI-generated result! Also, sky pirate is such an infectious idea to me, talk about an adventure among the stars!! Love your take on it!

Who decided that renaissance festivals should happen in the summer and early fall? Like, wearing elaborate european-history-inspired fantasy costumes in June in Virginia sounds like hell to me personally, as a Marylander who has been to the MD RenFest. I know that summer is when school is out, and it's the season for music festivals and state fairs and stuff, but the combination of hot weather and hot costumes seems like a tremendous oversight that most event planners failed to account for when they were creating those first Ren Faires (at least in America). Sorry this comment was barely related to the video, but I needed to get this off my chest and i figured it could double as an offering to the algorithm. I am frustrated, but that frustration isn't towards Minji, it's directed towards the people who organized those early Rennaissance Festivals in the 60's and 70's.

As a crafter who would rather be sewing then sketching, what you described as using AI for speeding through the conceptual development and visualization makes so much sense, so you can focus on the parts of the creative process that brings the most joy. We cannot put the AI genie back in the bottle, so transparency in process and understanding it to be a shortcut is fair game to me. I would not begrudge someone for buying a pattern rather then drafting from scratch. That said, some of my favorite work that you have done is you bringing other peoples concepts to live, like the Evelution fairies. I would love to see more of that teamwork to design and make with other creaters. Lots of love, this looks awesome!

On the AI use, aside from the ethical and environmental nightmare, i think it would, weirdly enough, limit your ideas?? Because it's becoming more and more the same (at this point i can tell a image is AI bcs they all have the same... feel??? Idk it's weird) Maybe another way to expedite this part of the process can be using a photomontage app (taking the bits and pieces you like abt this and that and pasting them on - could even be good ol' scissors, like those styling games from the 90s) Anyway i'm glad you were able to find your stance on AI and i wish ppl stopped expecting content creators to immediately be perfect at everything and have all the knowledge

I personally don't see an ethical issue with using AI for inspiration. I look at images and art online all the time for inspiration - I think most people do. As long as AI output is kept as a sped up way of getting inspired and guide human work, and isn't used as a final thing on its own, then I don't see that it infringes on artists' rights.
@Kyosumari
@Kyosumari 9 күн бұрын
The ethical issue is that that AI generated image is the bastardization of stolen work. When artists get compensated and given proper chance to consent for their work to be used in the creation of a generative model, I would agree with you more. An artist's style is a culmination of their life's work, and taking that work for your own use without compensation or consent is unethical. Taking something someone created for inspiration is fundamentally different than using it for transformative/derivative work. It feels like an arbitrary excuse at times. And that's before going into detail about how an artist's style is their identity, and often the selling point of their livelihood, and the people that take their galleries of work to steal it aren't doing so with 'ethical' intent.

I think the thing that trips a lot of people up, is that AI _could_ be used ethically. Absolutely it could be a useful and ethical tool- _if_ the people who made and controlled these programs were interested in ethics. _If_ you could trust your fellow humans to use it ethically. The unfortunate reality, is that AI is not just abuseable, it's being abused. It's being presented as an alternative to even large wealthy corporations paying real human artists who need money to live, and it was made to be that way on purpose. It was developed with the express intention of giving people a reason to pay artists less, it directly benefits the thieves and bullies who manage and make the money off of people using these programs.

a lot of AI hate really is overblown. yeah big corps like Google and the like are using enormous amounts of electricity, but the services used by individuals are tantamount to lighting a candle compared to the airline industry. also AI work for pinterest and inspiration is basically what it is meant for and doesn't take jobs away from anyone. mood boards never made made money for artists and always take an artist's work without permission, there is no way around that. don't fret about, just be mindful that mentioning AI will generally anger crowds who are pissed at the wrong entities.
