It never ceases to amaze me how much material must be sacrificed in this process. You start off with what looks like to this layman enough metal to make a two handed broadsword and end up with a Chef's Knife.
@JPsBladeworks2 ай бұрын
Well i cut the billet in half so i used half the original billet and i used half the last billet to forge my knife so i can forge one more out from what i have left. But yes a lot of steel is lost as scale, grinder dust and end cuts in the process.

to hide gaps between the different woods i use a small "spacer" out of leather.. i can be compressed, soak with epoxy and get rock solid.. becouse its soft it evens out small iregularitis and fill small gaps. i dont have a surface grinder so i dont getthe handles 100% flat so i use the leather to get paralell handlescales or "clean" blends between different handle materials
@JPsBladeworks2 ай бұрын
Thats an interesting way to do it. I do my cuts on a chop saw at my brothers shop and then i just sand the peaces on a flat surface. I tend to get better fittings when i uses expoxy instead of ca glue to glue the 2 pieces together since i have more control but unfortunately i dont always have 7 hours to wait for the epoxy to cure.

Great job for first mosaic! About the handle size: I have giant hands, so if it fits me, it’s toooo big. I’ve started having my teenage son tell me when to stop grinding 😂. I come to remember a few years ago, the youtuber Scott from Kentucky Ballistic had a severe injury with an exploding firearms. A bunch of his KZbin friends/competiting channels stood up for him by making videos in his spirit, airing them on his channel for a couple of months, to get him an income. Would that be an idea amongst the knife making society on KZbin? Each of you make 1 video - maybe saying "Nothing to it, really" every now and then, or telling stories about him. Build things that he would have built, maybe even sell those items in his shop.........
@JPsBladeworks2 ай бұрын
We all got together and decided to bring up his gofundme in our videos to help bring up his story and hopefully get him enough money to cover his medical cost. Its rough.
