Making a wood ring from leopardwood

Great video and beautiful ring! I make them also and would recommend using a forstner bit to drill the initial hole in the wood. You can find a list of bit sizes=ring sizes to know which one to use. Makes it a lot easier and less overcutting. Great job though!

I've tried this before and my ring have been very week, non-durable, and to thick for comfort. I now make bent wood rings out of shavings or veneer and super glue the layers together. This makes a super strong ring that can be thin and durable. I still use the lathe to sand, size, and shape them and have been loving it.

I just recently started making rings and have only done it using the method you describe. I'm really happy with how they're turning out. Do you mind me asking how you finish the inside of the ring? The only think I can think to do would be to put it in a jaw chuck which I don't have right now. I've been finishing the inside by hand. Any suggestions?

This is by far the highest quality ring I've seen someone make on youtube to date. Great tip with the 12,000 grit micromesh. Can I ask if you finished the ring with a layer of something like super glue or some kind of wood sealant?

Why use a scraper to round the blank? A roughing gouge or skew would be better...also, to hollow out the inside, maybe a forstner bit to start? Nice finish btw

Looks really nice. Something I'd like to try. I hadn't thought about using nail files for higher grits - neat. BTW, are those tools sharpened? seems like they were a touch dull.

Thank you! The first tool I used was an old wood chisel I took to the grinder. I since learned I've been riding the bevel at the wrong angle with my tools. They are still very sharp. I'm working on getting a check for the back so I can drill perfectly sized holes with wood boring bits. Since I improved my technique I have noticed much less whining from the wood.

Accelerant...commonly used with pens & other small turnings finished with CA to help the CA dry/set faster.
