I wonder who the folks are that take joy in putting a thumbs down on these videos. If you don’t like it don’t watch it. I like it!

Some may be legit but I believe others are not. I have seen other KZbin videos that are excellent with a number of thumbs down. I believe there may be a few disgruntled individuals who make the rounds hitting the thumbs down. What they do not realize is that even the thumbs down help generate revenue for the KZbinr. Steve

That's a great looking accessory for the surface plate. I like that it's multi purpose, and that fine adjust looks buttery smooth.

Hi Craig, I love that tool and use it often. It is very smooth and dials the indicator right in nicely. Steve

Thanks Ray, We all have a lot to learn. My father use to make it his personal goal to learn something new in this trade everyday and I believe it was part of what made him so good at it. Steve

That's cool, especially since as you say you can measure your diameter and know your depth of cut is correct and you end up with the right radius on the end. Thanks for sharing!

Nice - I'll bet that fixture is useful when it comes time to grind the curved surface after heat treat!

Great video very impressive setup. What do you use the plate for that is bolted to the bottom of the over arm on your mill?
@SolidRockMachineShopInc4 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin, Thanks, The plate was used as a poor man's duplicator. I may have it on my Instagram page and I think it might be in one of the videos but I can't remember which one. It works great to mount the magnetic Noga base to as well. I have other ideas for it down the road Like mounting horizontal tools on it. Steve
@testyourdesign2334 жыл бұрын
I already modified my small Noga arm to make it rigid like yours. Simply ordered the replacement fixed end P/N FA1120 through MSC.
@TrevorDennis1004 жыл бұрын
Since I got back into machining I realized I had several Noga like arms made by Tilta which are designed for mounting things like monitors on camera rigs. I have them in different sizes, and they are very strong. I am not sure if they are cheaper than Noga arms, but as I had them anyway... They might be called Magic Arms if anyone wants to search for them www.ebay.com/itm/TILTA-Monitor-ARM-MA-T03-Magic-Arm-DV-arm-w-15mm-rail-clamp-for-DSLR-rig-LCD-/231259371399

Thanks for the tip Stephen. Yours is at laser etching right now and as soon as heat treat gets back I only have to grind the nose piece. You will have the first one done in the new fixture that you seen in this video. Steve

Interesting video, nice looking machining. I do have a question though, is there a reason for the long stick out on the boring bar in the boring head?
@SolidRockMachineShopInc4 жыл бұрын
It was for the lathe. As a general rule I do not shorten them if they cut okay, you never know when that extra length will come in handy. Steve
@LumaLabs4 жыл бұрын
This multi-function surface gauge... Where can I buy it? It needs a website, because if it had one, you would have my order already!
@SolidRockMachineShopInc4 жыл бұрын
Hi Greg, We hope to have one in the near future but right now we have to concentrate on getting product on the shelf. A web site is no good if all you find is "Out of Stock" messages. If you really want one let me know here in the comment section and we will add your name to the long list we have already. Steve
@kyleward52494 жыл бұрын
if you have that long of boring bar is there any reason why you couldn't fit 4 more atop those four in the inverse position? It'd require a new fixture block but near double efficiency.
@SolidRockMachineShopInc4 жыл бұрын
Hi Kyle, that could be done and should work well. Steve

How can I buy the indicator base? thanks

Right now I am way behind due to same health issues for the last 4 years. Things are looking better now and I can do some work in the shop. I have 2 almost done and 10 in the machining stage. They are all spoken for but I am sure there will be some cancellations due the wait. I can out you on a long waiting list if you like. You can contact me here solidrock@nlbchapel .org. Do not put the space after nlbchapel. It is there because of bot harvesting. Steve

Every time I have seen that square checking method, with a dial test indicator on a base, there's one thing that is always left unsaid. It relies entirely on the tested sides being flat and *parallel*. You can test a nicely made pyramid with that method and it will indicate "square" because the indicator will show the same distance on opposing sides. When presenting that technique for new people, it really needs to be said because it may not be intuitive for someone starting out!
@SolidRockMachineShopInc4 жыл бұрын
Hi somebody else, The name of one of our videos is It's finished! Flat, parallel and square to 50 millionths of an inch!
@somebodyelse66734 жыл бұрын
Haha, yep! I just wanted to make certain that your fans who are just starting out knew that the parallelism was more than just an excellent property of the tool, that it was a requirement for that kind of check. Gotta be flat and parallel first, or that kind of measurement won't mean what you think. Thanks for sharing your time, again!

Good work as usual, but I was wondering why not make a fixture for a rotary table and do 10 or 20 at a time. A 4 or 5 inch radius should give you plenty of rock to center on.
@jtkilroy4 жыл бұрын
That's what I was thinking. Single pointing gives a truer radius but it doesn't matter if your going to grind it .005
@SolidRockMachineShopInc4 жыл бұрын
Hi Randell, That is a very good idea. Steve
