BNO yes but as in trapping it takes time and knowledge to get it right. Hope you have a chance to check it out as a skill one day. I bounty trapped for a living a few years back in South Texas on a few large ranches. I collect traps and snare devices so I have lots of totes full of line ready gear and boxes of collectors as well. I am enjoying your channel. Keep it up!

I was taught how to make a gill nets back when I was a child and made hundreds of hammocks and dip nets for sport fishing..... All the time I only knew the Slip Knott. I had no ideal of any other way until I saw your You Tube video.... I am 64 now and would love to try other ways to making a net... And Teach my grandkids too.... My question is where is a good place to get supplies from???

You can get bonded twine and your needles for making your netting from Memphis Net & Twine. Teaching the kids is such a good thing.

I hope you are still reading messages here! I'm at 36" on my first cast net (going for 42) and my knots have improved considerably but I'm still learning every day. I'm using #9 white bonded nylon from Memphis Net. I was having a lot of trouble with my knots loosening. They didn't seem to spill and they looked like good knots, not slip knots, but they would not stay tight. After I had used about 1/3 of the roll of twine and as I was loading a needle, the twine ended. I found the next end to start loading the needle and the feel of the twine was completely different from the feel of the first length of twine off the roll. It was stiffer and maybe felt stickier whereas the first off the roll felt like plain cotton twine, and my knots since then have stayed tight, could it be that the first part of the roll lacked the bonding? I also still have some trouble on the first few meshes after a spacer getting the knots to "center" in the top pickup loop.. I wonder if this is what you call getting the pressures equal? I would love to ask you more questions about the Flying Dutchman technique but I understand you may receive way to many questions to do that. If you could answer some, however, you could let me know at my email jlfmd45@gmail.com .. Thanks John

Yes sir, your right about the bonding. Some spoils of twine are very lacking on the bonding. It is very frustrating when you buy a spool and the bonding is not very good but the second part of your spool must have shown a good bonding material. When the bonding is right the twine has a good stiffness to it and the knots hold very well. The best advice I can give is try not to move your net from where you work on it so gravity helps to hold them tied. Once you finished with the net, insure you dip the net. This will secure you knots so they stay tight. When dipping, pull down on the lead line to assist the knots to tighten them up and let it dry. Once that is done you should not have anymore problems. Sorry you got a bad spool of twine. It does happen to me as well. Hope this helps.

@@equipyourselflifeskills5802 Thanks so much. I am on my next to last round before the double twine that holds the lead line. I’m not sure how to transition from single to double or how to add in another needle of double twine if my needle won’t hold enough to go around without refilling. My idea is to just tie the double line to the last knot to start the last row and use a regular net knot I’ve thought about trying to tie one strand two knots back and tie the other strand on the las knot in order to reduce the bulk I couldn’t find on your videos a segment where you addressed the double strand other than loading the needle. Maybe I just missed it. Anyway thanks for your videos. This has turned out to be lots more fun than I ever expected

Your videos are the best I’ve watched. You must have been an instructor or if not you missed a calling because I totally get consumed with the quality of your instructions and examples! I have started 3 nets the first 2 I made several mistakes but on the 3rd I have it going right and I love learning from your videos! Thank You very much for putting this series together and sharing it! I do have a question about the dip, I cannot find it anywhere. Do you know of another brand or where to get it from and what do you think about a water based net dip? I have found some water based but I don’t know enough about it to trust it after all the time it takes to make a net I want it all to be the best end product I can produce. I am only making them for myself and appreciate any information on the dip! Thank you again and God Bless you and you family!!

would i be able to make a 6foot cast net with 1/4 in mesh size with one role of #4 nylon twine 1pound.
@equipyourselflifeskills5802 Жыл бұрын
If your measuring one leg on the mesh then I would say it will be close if you use the #4. That would include hanging your lead line as well. Making that size mesh on a 6’ net will prove to be a trying job but you will have an awesome net. Take your time and the results will be awesome.

I love your videos, best tutorial I’ve found, good explanations and video quality. I’ve started my net, I’m struggling a little. My slip knot spacers are actually slipping as I go and pull on the net to tighten other successive Dutchmen knots and when I come back around a revolution and tie into that spacer area a row below the slip knot is slipped up and made my lengths off. I am using braided spectre twine, is this my problem? The twine I’m using doesn’t make a good tight knot at the spacer and starter loops?? I double knotted the starter slip knot loops to prevent this, but as I add a spacer in the mesh field it’s too hard to try to lock the knot with my skill level tying. Any advice net mentor would be appreciated
@equipyourselflifeskills58024 жыл бұрын
Michael Yoes Jr I have not tried spectra but I did use Kevlar. I also teach high angle rescue, in using spectra, special knot usage is always required. My thoughts on spectra would be way to slippery to work well. Bonded nylon has always been my choice for quality knots. It’s very frustrating to attempt to learn this skill using special materials. I would recommend making one with nylon and then after learning all the skill requirements, bite off that net made with spectra. I think it is very possible but very frustrating for even a skilled net maker. Hope that helps. Thanks for your interest in a fading skill. Help pass it on.
