Can you make this in those blue barrels? - they don't have that little gas escape valve - not keen on it exploding😂!

I think you can use any barrel that has a removalable top. Lots of time the top has a screw in bung plug. what I did is just loosen this slightly so its no longer a tight seal and that was enough for gas venting. Seems animal manures can create a lot more gasses than when using just green grass/weeds or crop residues.

Hello other than leaving the remaining solids in the container how else can you use them? I was thinking as a mulch material underneath perennials. any other suggestions?

I plan to do this for use next spring. In my climate it will freeze solid over the winter. Will the freezing effect its potency?
@BareMtnFarm3 жыл бұрын
Hi @Bernanos2 Freezing shouldn't affect its quality. However, care should be taken to use a container that can take freezing expansion as well leave plenty of head space for expansion as well.

Stick the bucket under your house in a crawlspace or you could literally just dig a hole a few feet deep and bury the bucket till spring to protect from freezing.

What is bokash
@BareMtnFarm3 жыл бұрын
Hi @Maryl Hanson Bokashi is a process that uses Lactic Acid Bacteria to in essence precompost or pickle food wastes like dairy, grease, cooked or raw meats and vegetable wastes that you'd not run through a regular compost pile. The finished/pickled wastes then can be run through a composting process or buried in the garden with no adverse issues.
