The People's Court

The plaintiff says the defendant is her son, and she loaned him money. Now she can’t get him to pay her back, and he even blocked her phone number. She’s suing for every penny he owes her. The defendant says his mother abandoned him at 3 and they only reconnected much later. He claims he took care of her and bought groceries, and she’s taking advantage of him.

Judge Milian is asking him that but would she feel so forgiving if her mom had been so damaging? I grew up in a cult with a mentally abusive mom. I let her live in my house for 4 years after my day passed away , now she’s in a home demanding to come back, telling me that I’m a bad kid that I’m choosing to protect my mental health and wife over feeling obligated to an abusive person because they birthed me. My situation was scripted different, but just as damaging. What I've learned is that, having a false belief system and guilt blinds one from seeing the light to their own truth as a spiritual being that no mother or father can create. They are just an experience. It's up to you to find out what the experience is trying to show you about yourself.

It was very uncommon back then for fathers to get custody of children so I think she must have just walked away and didn't pursue custody or visitation which is very sad. I agree that the mother seems disingenuous, on top of no good reason for not being there for her children and the son has accepted that. That's why I never trust a female who can give up her kids or be okay with not seeing them everyday. That's someone who ain't wired correctly and never will be. Some ppl are saying drugs but I don't think so. Addicts are usually eager to throw that excuse out there so they don't look like a piece of crap that just left and didn't come back. This woman however seems to be the latter.

Even though it may not be relevant to the money judgement, the judge should ask the mother questions like : did she pay child support, did her loss of custody have something to do with her marrying out of state, had she ever put in any effort to keep in touch with her son in fifteen years, etc. so as a judge, you want to have some background knowledge of who the plaintiff or defendant are .

I think he doesn't know how to navigate his relationship with his mom so he just tries to be as nice as he can to her because she's elderly. I hope he does some healing and finds peace. He obviously hasn't had an easy life.

The judge is misreading this woman. She needed money and tried to sue her son. She isnt trying to have a relationship with him because taking him to court over this bs isnt a way to do it.

Sounds like she's in a situation where she doesn't have anyone and she's guilting him to be there for her. You don't see your kids for 12 years and you're not in a coma, the title mom goes out the window. How is a small sum like $600 from a parent to a child a loan in the first place? How much does she see her other kids?

If you borrow money you pay it back, my dad was out of my life until I became an adult then we had an adult relationship and I am so thankful that he didn’t mess me up more by keeping me with him instead of leaving with my mom and bonus dad

Its certainly possible to reconnect with a parent who hasn't been around for you. Be as forgiving as you want others to be, remember your elderly parents won't be around forever, and remember you can't change the past. I give up my apartment and city to take care of my dying mother. It was the best thing I've ever done or will do. I only felt she loved me for the last three months of her life and it was enough. Forget the past and be happy with what you have now, it may be all you ever get. God really blessed me with those three months. I have beautiful memories I'd never have if I kept being petty.

This breaks my heart! My own mother (I had no other family) died when I was in my teens. The last conversation I had with her was a fight, things I can never take back. I often say it, even if your aged loved ones are getting hit with dementia/Alzheimer’s or the such, keep them close, tell them every single opportunity you get. Have a blessed and excellent weekend

Some people just don’t know what they have until it’s gone! His mom will be gone sooner than he thinks! Then them fussing over a stupid t.v. Is going to seem trivial & petty!!! 😢

So mom is stressed over $400 how bad can your life be that you have to sue your son that helped you in your time of need even though you abandoned him.

No mother should ever sue her own child, and certainly not for $400, but she says it was the only way to see him again, that is just so sad. Couldn't she just say sorry and go and visit him, as she is missing out on her grandchildren too. And when he was a child it was her choice to put her new boyfriend first and leave the State and never see her child again, sounds like she is a very selfish person and hasn't changed...

The plaintiff never did give a reasonable response to JMs query about why she left her children. I am not saying it was entirely her fault, the relationship could have involved abuse for example, but it just seems off that her son is now an adult, however she still never discusses it. I know JM states the plaintiffs notes to the defendant signify she wants more than a TV, however it feels to me like she wants her son to buy his way back into her life. As a mom myself, I could never do that to our son. I just hope what we saw in the exit interview was sincere on her part. I think I've been watching too much PC, I'm getting cynical!

I would have given my son the money. I would never loan my child money. It is not worth it. She a cold piece. And she knew he was struggling. He worked fast food to try to support a family
