Hey! Seasoned HF plate compactor user here. The easiest fix for the throttle is to just remove the cable and tighten the nut in the center of the actual throttle lever on the machine. Way easier, and it works like a generator or any other stationary engine, just a throttle lever and friction. I'd also replace the nuts and bolts on the handle, they'll break off soon. Engine and actual-compactor wise, the internals are bulletproof. Everything around them will break, but as long as you can fix the things you have to interact with, it'll keep on trucking.

Seth I’d assume this would hidden enough for the wife, but you should build a shed sort of thing to hold the airbag. The sides should collapse down and just clip together then all you have to do to set it up is drop the walls flat and roll out the airbag, then you don’t have to muscle it around the garden.

I second Steve B. idea shifter/throttle idea. The cable looks just like a standard bike shifter cable. It would be awesome to see a video where you swap that busted shifter out for a bike shifter. You could get creative a use a newer 8/9/10/11 speed shifter. I imagine you have a few of those laying around. Love all the videos!!!
