Making Thick Cut BACON from a POTATO

This was just a fun experiment gone right. I first wanted to see how much starch I could extract from a potato to make vegan bacon. It wasn't much so I picked up some potato starch and started layering up a perfect vegan pork belly that was easily sliceable into an incredible good thick cut vegan bacon.

I've just made your daikon bacon. So far that's my favorite! I varied from your recipe in the way I dried it (turbo air oven at around 125deg. [20 min.] plus wrapping in paper towel - but no salt) and also did the marinade more like I used to for rice paper bacon . It reminds me a lot of when I did rice paper bacon though the diakon is so much more like bacon texture with the fattiness and easier to deal with! Even my wife thought it was amazing and she's not usually a big fan of fake meats!

@The Casino Get a life, bro. You’re trolling people who don’t want to abuse/kill animals when they don’t need to do so to live healthy lives, and only some still crave the flavors that their parents fed them since they began eating solids (most grow out of craving such flavors). Most meat is flavored with seasonings _(PLANTS)_ to make it palatable. What does that tell you?! Eating it raw, like every other omnivore/carnivore, is detestable to nearly everyone, with the minor exception of some people liking sushi (which can actually give you _DEADLY_ parasites). Anyways, trolling people that are living healthier than you are, and harming _WAAAAY_ less sentient life to do so, is as pathetic as it gets. Seriously, get a life. You aren’t being “edgy;” you’re just being a dumb tampon. Enjoy your eventual heart disease/arse cancer though!

1 cup potato starch 1 tbsp coconut oil 1tsp msg 1/2 tsp smoked paprika 1tsp beetroot powder / red food colouring 1tsp liquid smoke 1/4 cup maple syrup 3/4 cup just boiled water 1 cup potato starch 1 tbsp coconut oil 1. Put the two sets of ingredients in two different bowls, mix/combine the bowl with the seasonings into a crumbly consistency 2. Put a 3/4 cup boiling water into the flavoured starch and 1 cup of boiling water into the unflavoured starch 3. Mix and combine each bowl with the boiled water, add an additional 1/2 cup of starch into the flavoured mix if you think it needs it 4. Knead each a bit, add an additional tbsp of starch to each and knead it in, so it's more pliable/workable/firm for shaping into a bacon slab 5. 2:45 to see how to shape it 6. Oil your knife, and slice the bacon slab into strips as needed, and fry up (notes: can wrap it up and freeze it, and slice it frozen)

Vegetables aren’t cruelty free. You have any idea how many small animals are killed during planting and harvesting? How many animals inadvertently die from the pesticides used? How many animals were displaced to level said forests to plant said crops? I have a small farm and I raise my own animals and silage for them. I eat on average one full cow, 5 hogs and 70/80 chickens in a year. More animals were probably killed to get you your can of corn than I ate. And I’m eating what I kill and butcher. Everything killed to get you your black bean pretend burger patty died for nothing but for you to brag about your diet and “cruelty free” food.

There is no such thing as vegan shrimp. It's an oxymoron, as are all vegan meat references. Ffs get your own vocabulary. Referencing meat means you are missing the taste. Eat beans, lentils. Or eat meat!!!!
@woegman
@woegman 3 жыл бұрын
@@zooniethelazoon Or maybe just let people call it what they want to call it, and who gives a crap? They don't need their own vocabulary. If they want to create a vegan version of a meat product as a substitute for whatever reason (health, ethics, what have you) they don't need a new vocabulary to do so. And I say this as a happy carnivore, who occasionally likes to find fun ways to cook meals I like for friends who aren't.

Would this work with other starches? Corn starch maybe? I tried something similar with the starch left over from WTF seitan last week, but what you've done is way beyond my creation. It looks amazing.

Wow, to turn a measily potato into protein and fat like, praise the lord ! This is huge ! I dont know how you did it, but all these companies are gonna be at it. I mean just to think about it, turning potato into meat. That is magic, nutrients coming out of thin air !

I'm not vegan but a friend who is keeps me curious and open-minded. The first thing I thought when you pulled out the cooked slice was, "That needs a coating of cracked peppercorns on the edges." : )
