Hello, Blackie. First of all, you are a man of integrity and have nothing to feel ashamed of. I am a Septuagenarian from the North Ga mountains and subscribe to your channel. I really appreciate your emphasis on us older generation folks who have knowledge we want to pass along and the content you publish encouraging us to stay involved. I’ve had five bypasses at one time and have severe peripheral neuropathy in both hands and feet, my internal gyroscope is all messed up so I guess I qualify as a Silver Wolf. I am not a customer so no worries there…but only because I’ve been an outdoorsman for over sixty years and have amassed tons of gear from Boy Scouts, hunting, technical rock and ice climbing, general mountaineering and caving (both vertical & horizontal) so haven’t needed to purchase haversacks or packs. I already have a barn and two out buildings full of gear. When I retired, I chose land in a high mountain hollar surrounded by upland hardwood ridges bordering government land so I have a protected space to roam around and my handicap mobility vehicle is a 2002 Kawasaki 3010 Mule that I bought new. I can run up the ridges in my “ backyard” and play. Hell, I can make my own trail. One of the issues I have is CRS…Can’t Remember 💩, so I feel ya. You and your fine wife will get things sorted out eventually. And truth be told, nobody is going to die if they don’t get a specific piece of gear…yesterday. Bushcrafting is a hobby and folks need to suck it up and give you the slack you deserve. Just my thoughts. I missed the North Georgia camp out because I was sick at the time when registration occurred. I hope you guys do another get to gather up in my neck of the woods again (Blairesville/ Blue Ridge area). Stay strong! I’ve been praying 🙏 for you.

Blackie… so happy to see you doing better in your recovery from those health issues. Over the weekend, I got into a box of old kitchen utensils from my grandmothers old home place. In that box was a 7” Old Hickory Butcher Knife and a 6” Old Hickory Boning Knife. Both are stamped Carbon Steel and the hardwood handles are worn but are still tight with the rivets in place. Here’s the challenge that I have…. I would like to sharpen these knives, but do not want to damage the patina. Any suggestions for best option for sharpening these treasures? - Tennessee Smoky

Good Sir, your health comes 1st. If you're not in good health your work will suffer, that's just all part of life. As a wise man once told me, "you can't please everyone all of the time" no matter what we do in life this statement will always be true. Don't feel guilty for actually needing "you time" to recover. It takes a good man to apologize for the delays caused by an unforseen medical emergency, now it is on your customers who need to have some understanding & compassion because it could not be helped. There is a reason I don't send email in these situations. Take care Blackie. A couple of decades ago I had to skim thousands of email subjects each day, reviewing 750-1000 of those emails.
