Making Wing Chun Work In Sparring

I have a ton of fun using wing chun in sparring. It's great to work with a boxer or a taekwondo fan and share knowledge.

Wing chun in a fight... aka modern JKD (also combining other arts). The RAT technique is literally ripped straight from wing chun, and a you can see, even in controlled sparring it's effective. Reasons i point and laugh when people say wing chun isn't effective... they say that because they fail to understand what range wing chun is meant for. It's not for striking range, or clinching. It's a transitory range between the two. Bridging the gap between those two... that's what practically everything in wing chun is trying to accomplish. It's an entire martial art focused on that specific range. Which sounds completely useless, if you're considering it ON ITS OWN. "Hurr MMA shows it's useless". No shit. You're comparing MIXED martial arts to ONE martial art. It's already last, because it's not a fair comparison. Trying learning and mixing wing chun into the rest of your skill set. Most who try and use wing chun don't learn the whole system. Even the higher forms that use weapons, have empty hand applications

Of coarse wing chun works in sparring , but it’s used as an element of surprise not as a tactic of letting your opponent know, “hey by the way I’m about to wing chun you” You’re supposed to apply it like any other martial art tactic, with the correct timing.

Or you can be SMART and use it as Ground and Pound. You can also use Chi Sou when you're hand wrestling.

@@CageCombatandFitness It's because people Don't know how to learn and only do what is popular. I use Chi Sou alot, ot sets up Kimuras, Parrying and so on. Kung Fu works but in certain areas of fighting. Lime gow boxing doesn't work on the ground.

Jeffs personal style before he did wing chun he used trapping techniques with no relation to WC.... pretty effective where hed trap the his opponents guard to create opening for punches, kicks and knees..... and probably he has own flow to grappling takedowns and such.... all beautifully shown in live sparring .....

Bruce Lee won the Hong Kong highschool boxing championship using wing chun. This was a time when HK was under English rule and Boxing was white people sport, however Bruce won so decisively not even the British judges could rig it. Bruce Lees opponent was a reigning British (white) person too. Bruce KO him with Wing Chun punch

Incredible Wing Chun techniques and movements not bad I wish I could have been doing this in karate looks so fun and awesome and a better way to defend yourself exceptionally very impressive an incredible I just wish I had a chance to take my training back by karate training back more than anything 🥋☯️🙏😌🙏☯️🥋

Show us Wing Chun for Ground and Pound instead, it's way more effective and also part of the evolution for MMA's GnP (alongside KEYSI). I personally find Half guard is the best for wing chun, the Angles are better.

@@KevinLeeVlog Me and some old training partners used to try working it out as Ground and Pound is still primitive in mma compared to stamd up striking. Chi sou works well, Chain punches are ridiculously effective.

@@KevinLeeVlog also chi sou to Top Wristlock (catch wrestling) is a Sneaky combo people never see coming from any position on the ground. Sorry, i am happy someone else finally agrees and doesn't disgard kung fu. Btw i also found a way to make Aikido work, it's super effective

I use wing chun on ground work for specific guards. I like to utilize wingchun and muay thai technique within the transitional phases as well. I also find it easier to set up the hook after the pressure applied within the wing chun trapping as well.

Idk, those downward hammer fists.. even when they land like the first one, what do they do?? Is it just to increase your punch stats? It looks like they have less power than a jab would, are slower, and leave you more defensively compromised. And that's when done by an expert, pro mma fighter too. If he can't make them work, who could? Maybe a roy jones jr. / GSP level freak athlete I guess... I could see someone saying a double lead hook is stupid and couldn't work, yet Roy Jones Jr. made it work to great effect. But I'm not convinced just by these examples of that hammer fist. The bunches of punches is great though and has obvious utility

Also, are the guys he's testing these on also pro mma fighters? Because a pro fighter vs hobbyists can make literally any technique work, even aikido. It has to be tested at an equalish competitive level.

Wing Chun looks like cat fighting imo. Big fan of MMA and martial arts. Wing Chun seems ineffective against most of nog all martial arts. Effective in clinch range maybe. Looks cool though

If you want to see a masterful martial artist testing his wing chun against another champion caliber martial artist watch Anderson Silva vs Michael Bisbing. It’s unsaid, but I know Anderson was testing his Wing Chun out in the octagon. An it was truly awesome to see. Wing Chun can be effective. It works even better with fingerless gloves or no gloves so you can grab and hand trap more easily. Cool vid Jeff.

NEVER use WC for sparing. Ex sifu - it's a concept not a style. You will get destroyed against a striker or grappler. WC is a bridging system of the arm essentially which is useful in a standing fist fight. If you know BJJ you can encorperate Chi Sao concepts to the ground- but not literally move for move . Bruce Lee realized its limitations & invented MMA before it was acceptable to mix fighting systems.

Win Chung is useless unless close quarters and your opponent doesn't have any defense, that's why Bruce Lee started to train in other disciplines since win Chung isnt the best for fighting
