I don' live 100% minimalist life style, don't know if I am ever going to,but I keep trying...I decluttered pretty much material stuff that wasn't needed, I am yet to clear out other aspects of my life,that is much slower and heavier process...want so bad to get rid of anything that hold me back,watching this video can motivate me,thanks!

I am not a typical minimalist but I exercise some aspects of their lifestyle. I have managed to save more money as I do not collect unnecessary stuff. My life feels much more manageable as I have more time for family and friends as my cleaning does not take my whole time like before. My home is no longer cluttered and that has translated to a clutter-free mind

I love the way you think as minimalism. I used to work 60 hours /week in Tokyo. Back then, I didn’t even doubt about my life style because everyone in my office was working the same hours. Going part-time from full-time is such a viable option for so many people. Imagine how much time you'd win with 20 more hours a week and I am sure that so many would-be happier having less money, but more time. Often the excuse is: "Oh, but I have to pay my rent, car, etc.", but quite frankly it's just lifestyle inflation in general. Eating out, buying clothes, having coffee-to-go every day, subscriptions, etc. I am sure that the small things add up quicker than the big chunks of costs a month.
@MalamaLife4 жыл бұрын
Yes! I agree 100%. I see this with my friends and family all the time, where they feel like they can't give up their lifestyle and have to work crazy hours and overtime. Honestly, I am so much more happier to trade my money for my time because now I have more quality time to connect with my husband and my pups, to enjoy nature, to work on my new found love KZbin :) Thanks for this awesome comment

I'm the exact same, I've chosen to be part time for such a long time. It's a choice not many understand but it works for me, and the life I want. I don't feel like I "need" more, I'd rather have that time which money can't buy
@globalmuffin23 жыл бұрын
@@Akta for many of us part time doesn't pay well enough to cover the bills and especially isn't as stable as a full time job. for most of us going out of full time isn't a viable choice. with rampant inflation, who has the courage to go to a new job and to ask for part time? part time is considered laziness and part timers are the first to go in case of redundancy. as long as part time isn't the norm, no one with a bit of responsibility over their lives has the courage to go part time by himself.

Shifting towards a minimalist lifestyle has taught me to appreciate more the non-material things in my life. I realized that I used to take those things for granted but now I understand that is the "free" stuff that makes living worth: my family and partner's love, time spent with dear ones, spending a day with my dog, calm and happiness in appreciating nature, sense of fulfillment in learning something new, good health, having food on my dining table every day. I feel like I was blinded by consumption before and now I'm free from that burden of always wanting the next best thing just to realize it wasn't adding to my life. Possession isn't the answer to sadness, stress and anxiety. Appreciation and contentment is.

I agree with a more minimalist, conscious and simplified life, but whoever has many things, I think they should not throw them away, because in addition to polluting the environment, they are getting rid of the things that make us happy, I think that we have to use everything until the end ... Because when you buy something you have to think it is forever ... then you have to buy consciously ... everything has a solution just look around and recycle ... Good one Sophie! I love when you said “ Don’t let material things determine your worth” I firmly believe this too! I know unhappy people who have too much. Others are happy with a lot less. So what good is having all this extra stuff, if you’re not happy? Gayle and I have too much furniture are trying to decide what to do. Should we rent a storage locker, in hopes that our kids will someday want some of it? Or should we decide which items we should part with with now? It’s hard to know what they might want or need in the future. We will probably keep a few things they are attached to, and donate or sell the rest. I remember having the same problem with my parents when we were starting a household. But, we figured it out!!
@MalamaLife4 жыл бұрын
I agree! I am just as content, if not happier living with less. That is so sweet you want to pass them down to your kids! Are you able to take photos of the furniture and ask them which ones they want? :) I love the idea of passing down furniture to younger generation. I know that my parents' belongings would mean a lot more to me than some random furniture piece I buy at target.

I love your videos(art) Sophie ❤️ and I love your wisdom but I believe there is no such thing as toxic people just like there is no such thing as toxic children. There is behaviour we label as 'toxic' yes, with children we try to understand the cause of that behaviour, did they sleep enough? Have too much sugar? Has someone hurt them? Are they unwell? With adults unfortunately we often don't try to understand or help, we label them as unworthy of our care and thus create divides. Anger for instance is a perfectly normal emotion, suppressing it or denying it causes it to grow. Children don't suppress emotions until we incorrectly teach them that certain emotions are 'shameful'. And there lies the problem. Wishing you all a beautiful day 😊 Seek to understand x

Tony Morrison, Malcolm X, and Buddha such wonderful and profound quotes. A lot of deep thinking and ideas here. I like what you said about what freedom means to you, allow me to share mine. Freedom is the opposite of slavery. What are we slaves to? It can be material things, it can be our job, our addiction to excess food, our own minds. So to rid ourselves of those desires and wants, is freedom. Eh, it's another view of freedom. My physical space is definitely a state of my mind, right now...pretty cluttered. I will definitely be doing some decluttering over Thanksgiving. like-158

Love your perception of Freedom Alex! I also think it differs for everyone. Where in your house do you find the most clutter? Mine is my work desk and it is a constant battle to keep it tidy. Happy Thanksgiving to you Alex :)

Unfortunately many people overlap minimalism with sacrifice,, and only small fraction understand its real meaning...
@MalamaLife4 жыл бұрын
I agree with you! I understand that people have different perception of minimalism, but I truly think it is about feeling abundant and free. If there is a sacrifice, it's quite small compared to the gain.

I have a bit different view about minimalism. Minimalism is very natural instead of intentional. In my Minimalism video, I actually said that i didn't realize I've been a minimalist for such a long time. And to me, I think, living a life should be natural rather than intentional. If you have to live so intentionally, do you feel tired about it? Just curious. Btw, did you intentionally make your talking screen so dark? A bit hard to see. What kind of mic do you use to attach to your camera? My mic got so many noises and ruined the quality :(
@MalamaLife4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment Ashley. My parents grew up in a different culture and they have been a minimalist all their lives and they probably think my definition of minimalism is just a normal way of life. However, for me, growing up in the states, I feel like hyper consumerism became my normal lifestyle (not the case for everyone of course). Trying to reverse this mentality, I have to be more intentional and careful about my decisions. Hoping this way of thinking and habits I developed will become natural to me one day. Is it a bit too dark? My night lighting was bouncing off shiny face so I had to dim it quite a bit haha I am still working on perfecting my lighting at night :)

@@MalamaLife Oh i see. Then I think I'm somewhere between your parents and you. I think it's natural, but not normal. It's definitely not normal for everyone. I think it's a bit too dark. I thought you did it intentionally. What kind of mic do you use to attach to your camera for filming? good quality

Minimalist philosophy has really changed my life for the better…I have got rid of unnecessary things in my life and home and am enjoying life so much more. I need advice though…I no longer engage with toxic people who try to bring me down but this is difficult at the present time. My neighbours are not very nice people, very toxic and can be nasty, I don’t engage with them any more but as they are next door it is not easy as I am aware of their presence nearly every day…what mindset would help me do you think in my pursuit of slow living?
